Charlie Sheard and Rio Rosano started working collaboratively in 2023. All the work in this exhibition is jointly conceived and created; it presents exchange of experience between two artists from different generations and cultures. The exchange finds expression in paintings and drawings, and also takes the form of an expansive conversation between Photography and Painting. The artists have experimented with materials and techniques which they have utilised through the development of collaborative processes.

Rio Rosano was born in Indonesia in 1997. He is a Sydney based artist who photographs to film and makes abstract paintings. Rio grew up in England and has also lived in the United States and in Malaysia. Rio is interested in light, chance, the body, intuition, and in pure abstraction. He has worked as Charlie Sheard’s model and studio assistant for two years. This is the first exhibition of Rio’s work.

Charlie Sheard was born in Sydney in 1960 and is one of Australia’s most respected abstract painters. He has had more than seventy solo exhibitions in Australia, Europe, England, China, and the United States. His approach to painting is developed out of fifty years research into the history of techniques and forms; his current work is focused on transmitting bodily experience and energy directly into pure abstract paintings.
