Myles Young | Magic and Fertility
OLSEN GALLERY
19 November - 13 December
These works are exploring my experience of being human and relating with the world just as much as they are about the landscape. They’re looking at my interest in botanical mythology, family and ruminations on life, death, day and night, using the natural world as characters.
They are playful and imaginative works that take liberties not available through referencing images or looking at something infront of me and my approach was for the works to be in your face, up close and intimate. The works play with the idea that these places are somewhere just around the corner, slightly magical and very fertile.
Birds inhabit some of these works and to follow them allows for the imagination to wander into the diverse terrains of the show. The works are designed to be universally understood across cultures, time and place. There are moments of still, wonder, intrigue and slight danger, all of which can be found in nature at any one time.
