Olsen Annexe is proud to present Julie Corbet’s debut exhibition with the gallery, Moments Between Movement. Her practice resides within the genre of fluid abstraction, where the essence of movement and spontaneity takes centre stage. In this exploration, Corbet harnesses the unique properties of paint, allowing its fluid consistency to dictate the rhythm and flow across the canvas. Each stroke becomes a dance, a dialogue between the medium and the surface, as colours intertwine and merge, creating a dynamic interplay of form and emotion.
The act of painting transforms into a meditive process for the artist, where she relinquishes control and embraces the unpredictable nature of the materials. The paint, with its viscosity and fluidity, becomes a living entity responding to gravity, texture and the environment. This interaction evokes a sense of freedom, inviting viewers to experience the artwork as a moment in time capturing the essence of movement and the beauty of impermanence.
As she writes, “Through my work, I aim to evoke feelings of tranquility and wonder, encouraging viewers to immerse themselves in the vibrant colours and organic shapes that emerge. Each piece is an invitation to explore the depth of abstraction, to find meaning in the chaos, and appreciate the beauty that arises from the interplay chance and intention. In this journey of fluid abstraction, I celebrate the transformative power of paint, allowing it to flow, merge and evolve, creating a visual symphony that resonates with the viewer’s own emotions and experiences. My hope is that each artwork serves as a portal to a world where movement, color and form converge, inviting contemplation and connection”.
