BUILDING A COMMUNITY
The collective impact of a community of donors is profound. Since October 2021, the Heroes in Healing giving society members have given more than $200,000 in support of the OLOL Fund. Resources provide leadership with the flexibility to prioritize the needs of our patients and team, react to unforeseen challenges and take advantage of opportunities that lie on the horizon for our Regional Medical Center and Children’s Hospital.
The inaugural year impact focused on excellence in trauma, where every moment matters. Both our Regional Medical Center and Children’s Hospital are trauma centers designated by the American College of Surgeons. This equates to robust acute care 24/7 for every aspect of injury, as well as leadership in education, research and system planning. Our Lady of the Lake is the only adult Level I trauma center in the Capital Region — one of only three in Louisiana, as well as one of two pediatric designated trauma centers in the state, with the other in Shreveport.
Through membership donations, two pieces of equipment were purchased and are now in service. At our Children’s Hospital, our new pediatric ENT cart holds a multitude of scopes that can fit the tiniest infants and the largest teens. With comprehensive tools in one place, our team can quickly access emergent airways and intubate exponentially faster.
Lovingly named Betty by our adult trauma team, a second rapid infuser was purchased for the emergency department (ED) at the Regional Medical Center. Because we have the same equipment in the operating room (OR), it allows for a seamless transition when moving patients from ED to OR, increasing patient safety and creating measurable staff efficiencies. Some of the most prevalent trauma cases are accidents with pedestrians and bicyclists versus motor vehicles. Blood loss is often considerable; the rapid infuser saves countless lives.
The inaugural year impact is already making a meaningful difference in our teams’ ability to treat life-threatening traumas quickly and expertly. Moments indeed matter.
Through a gift of $1,000 or more to the OLOL Fund, the generosity of donors who help further the mission and ministry of our hospitals is celebrated.

Donors receive:
• A deeper connection with our ministry
• An invitation to an annual event with Our Lady of the Lake leaders
• Quarterly leadership and impact communications
