Our Ryken Studies program is named for the founder of the Xaverian Brothers and is a college preparatory program best summarized by their motto, “In harmony, small things grow.” The curriculum is designed for highly motivated students who have been diagnosed with mild learning differences. We prepare students for success in college and help them become autonomous learners by developing and reinforcing compensation strategies for each student’s learning difference(s).

HELPING OTHERS. HUMBLING OURSELVES. —

Service is integral to an Our Lady of Good Counsel High School education, whether that means you’re serving your own community or serving one across the world.

We require 20 hours of service per student per year, done at a non-profit helping the poor and marginalized.

Additionally, we offer four service trip experiences, to Appalachia; Camden, NJ; El Salvador; and Jamaica. Every service learning experience is an opportunity to receive as much as we give.

Maggie Ellington ’18, credits her two trips to El Salvador—one during her senior year, and then again as an alumni—as formative experiences, ones that have permanently shaped her worldview. During the trip, students and faculty members participate in Project FIAT, through which they volunteer and provide much needed assistance to the community.

Projects include building houses, visiting hospitals and orphanages, and working at daycare centers.

“With my first trip experience, it

Maggie always knew she wanted to be a teacher, but she credits her El Salvador experience with helping to solidify that path even moreso.

“There I realized the impact you can have on people and how to advocate for others. It will always remind me of what I want to go back to—how important it is to build trust between myself and children.”

Maggie's story is just one example of how exploring other worlds is integral to the Good Counsel experience—and how it will leave a mark on your heart and worldview for life.

OUR LADY OF GOOD COUNSEL HIGH SCHOOL

FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIPS $10,000 ($2,500/year for four consecutive years) A total of six fine arts scholarships in each category will be awarded to students who demonstrate notable achievement in theatre, choral, instrumental and visual arts.

Auditions for theatre, choral and instrumental arts will be held in January, 2022. The deadline for all auditions is January 28, 2022.

Visual arts applicants are required to submit eight images of work that they have created in the last three years. The work should be in a variety of media (graphite, acrylic, watercolor, etc.). Please limit photography to no more than two images.​​​ The deadline to submit materials is Friday, December 3, 2021.

SPEECH AND DEBATE SCHOLARSHIPS $9,000–$16,000 ($2,250–$4,000/year for four consecutive years) Scholarships are awarded to incoming freshman students who place first through sixth in the Speech and Debate competition held annually each March.

Good Counsel offers financial aid to qualified families to help reduce the total cost of tuition. We encourage all students, both new and returning, to complete the online tuition assistance application each year.

Good Counsel uses FACTS (Nelnet tuition services) for the collection and initial evaluation of financial data. FACTS does not decide whether financial aid will be given or how much to give. FACTS provides a need-based financial analysis service.
