Art Raimo Endowed Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was established to honor the legacy of longtime school president and former faculty member, Arthur Raimo. The scholarship provides financial assistance to a rising senior who has performed significant and meaningful community service over the course of their first three years at Good Counsel, as determined by Campus Ministry. The recipient should be within the top 20% of the class and have good character as certified by teachers, counselors, coaches, club moderators, or others.

Mr. Kevin B. Blackistone ’77

Branagan Band Scholarship

Established by Dr. and Mrs. Edward F. Branagan, Jr. ’62, this scholarship provides financial assistance to a current Good Counsel band member in his/her senior year who has contributed the most to the band.

Caitlyn (Katie) O’Bannon Fitzgerald ’00 Endowed Scholarship

Her friends and family established this endowed scholarship, in loving memory of Katie Fitzgerald ’00. The scholarship provides financial assistance to a current Good Counsel student who exhibits Katie’s love for life and commitment to excellence.

Camp Good Counsel Award (in Memory of Rosa Dominguez)

This award was created in Rosa’s memory to honor the Dominguez Family: Ramon ’79, Jose ’83, and Francisco ’88, who formed the Foundation of Camp Good Counsel. The Camp Good Counsel Award provides financial assistance to a Camp Good Counsel counselor.

Endowed and Current-Use Scholarships

Thanks to the support of our generous donors, Our Lady of Good Counsel High School is able to provide an unparalleled education to exceptional students of all socio-economic backgrounds to recognize talent and meet financial need. Our current-use scholarships have an immediate impact as the funds you donate are able to be expended right away to benefit students. Our endowed scholarships provide support for Good Counsel students over the long term, creating permanent funds where the principal of the gift is invested to generate earnings that strengthen Good Counsel for years to come.

All names in italics donated to scholarships during the 2019-20 fiscal year. The recipients listed were awarded the scholarship during the 2019-20 academic year, to be applied to their tuition for the 2020-21 academic year.

Camp Good Counsel Award (in Memory of Beth Polletto ’03)

The Camp Good Counsel Award provides financial assistance to a Camp Good Counsel counselor who embodies the spirit of Camp Good Counsel.

Cashen Bohlander ’18 Memorial Scholarship

Established by friends and family in loving memory of Cashen Bohlander ’18, these four-year scholarships provide annual financial assistance to students in the Ryken Studies program who exhibit Cashen’s commitment to hard work, compassion for others, and perseverance.

This scholarship provides financial assistance to an academically sound, rising senior who demonstrates their commitment to Good Counsel through involvement in athletics, service, or extracurricular activities.

Elizabeth (Beth) Polletto ’03 Memorial Music Scholarship

Established by Mr. and Mrs. John Polletto, in memory of their daughter, Beth, this scholarship provides financial assistance to a Good Counsel student based on excellence in music.

Frank (Jim) L. Hewitt, III Memorial Scholarship

Established by Mrs. Judy Hewitt in memory of her beloved husband, Jim, this scholarship provides financial assistance to a Good Counsel female student who is a team player with evidence of a humble spirit. The recipient should also be accomplished in soccer, basketball, or choral arts.

James T. McKenna Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Established by Timothy McKenna ’88 in memory of his father, James T. McKenna, these scholarships provide annual financial assistance to students with demonstrated financial need during their four years at Good Counsel.

John E. Doyle ’76 Memorial Scholarship

In memory of John E. Doyle this scholarship provides financial assistance to an outstanding eighth grade student graduating from St. Mary of the Mills in Laurel, Maryland who will be attending Our Lady of Good Counsel High School.

The family of Joseph M. Cardaci, Jr. ’84 established this fund to provide annual scholarships for two student athletes who foster the spirit of caring and excellence that Joe, Jr. exhibited during his years at Good Counsel.

Established by Denny ’66 and Mary (Canavin) Roderick to honor their beloved brother and friend, Joseph Reed Canavin ’63, this merit-based scholarship supports a rising Good Counsel senior with superior achievement and innovation in the STEM curriculum and active participation in extracurricular activities that includes debate, the newspaper, sports, or drama.

Michael Anthony Rosick ’67 Memorial Scholarship

Established by Richard Roderick ’66 and Patricia Rosick Roderick in memory of their friend and brother, this scholarship provides financial assistance to a rising senior. The recipient is someone who has excelled in life, made the best use of the gifts given to him or her by God and his/her family, learned to balance his/her life while excelling academically, and gives back to the community in thanks for what he/she has received.

This scholarship was established during the 2019 Grand Celebration Funds for Our Falcons Live Appeal in honor of long-standing Good Counsel faculty member Patrick Bates. This scholarship provides financial assistance to an academically sound, rising senior who demonstrates their commitment to Good Counsel through involvement in athletics, service, or extracurricular activities.

Peggy Ghent Memorial Scholarship

Established by Steve Ghent, family, and friends in memory of Peggy Ghent, these scholarships provide annual, financial assistance to incoming Good Counsel freshman students from St. Peter’s School who have a strong record of service to the elderly. The scholarship renews annually for each recipient during his/her four years at Good Counsel.

Established by family and friends in memory of Raf Dominquez ’84, these scholarships provide financial assistance to rising seniors who participate in the life of Good Counsel beyond the classroom and demonstrate a passion for the school and community through hard work and personal commitment.

Richard Burns Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established during the 2019 Grand Celebration Funds for Our Falcons Live Appeal in honor of long-standing Good Counsel teacher Dick Burns. This scholarship provides financial assistance to an academically sound, rising senior who demonstrates their commitment to Good Counsel through involvement in athletics, service, or extracurricular activities.

Richard Seel Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship provides financial assistance to an academically sound, rising senior who demonstrates their commitment to Good Counsel through involvement in athletics, service, or extracurricular activities.

Rick Miller STEM Scholarship

This scholarship was established with a generous gift from a Good Counsel family to provide financial support for students accepted into the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) program at GC and who demonstrate financial need. The purpose of this fund is to provide annual, renewable scholarships for current or incoming students who show a passion and aptitude for continuing study in a STEM-related field.

St. Francis Xavier Scholarship

Good Counsel’s Latino scholarship initiative responds to the Archdiocese of Washington’s request to expand the educational opportunities to the Latino community. Good Counsel annually awards St. Francis Xavier scholarships to academically outstanding incoming freshmen of Latino heritage who demonstrate financial need.

Stan Spottswood ’81 Servant Leader Scholarship

Established by the Ramsammy/Eversley family in honor of Nia Ramsammy’s choir teacher, Stan Spottswood, and in loving memory of her father, Arnold Ramsammy, this scholarship acknowledges a rising senior girl who shows leadership in serving and exemplifies the ideals that Mr. Spottswood stresses, including good character, musical talent, commitment and excellence. The ideal candidate also has demonstrated financial need.

Steve Dean ’67 Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Friends and family of Steve Dean ’67 who lost his life to complications relating to cerebral palsy in 1976, established the Steve Dean Golf Classic to help raise funding to support scholarships in his memory. To this day, proceeds from the annual tournament are designated towards the Steve Dean ’67 endowed scholarship fund, which provides financial support to a rising senior who embodies Steve’s spirit of optimism, friendship, and camaraderie.

Thomas R. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by Dr. and Mrs. Michael E. Murphy ’68 honoring Thomas, this scholarship provides financial assistance to a rising junior who is involved in at least one extracurricular activity, is in good academic standing, and who demonstrates financial need.

Xaverian Brothers Legacy Scholarship (X-BLES)

The Class of 1962 established the Xaverian Brothers Legacy Endowment & Scholarship Fund on its 50th reunion to honor the Xaverian Brothers’ tradition of personal and communal sacrifice to ensure a place at the table for all at Good Counsel. The X-BLES provides a four-year scholarship to an incoming freshman student who demonstrates financial need.
