Funds for Our Falcons Live Appeal
Dear Friends:
Thank you for joining us at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School’s 36th Grand Celebration.
This year, my first at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, has been remarkable thanks to you, our faculty and staff, and of course our wonderful students. This night is not only a celebration, but also a testament to our community’s spirit of generosity Thank you for being here
Tonight, we are proud to honor our 2024 Good Counsel visionaries:
Our Lady Award: Jeffrey Davis and Aimee Loebs-Davis P ’21 ’23
1958 Cornerstone Award: Denny ’66 and Mary Roderick
Concordia Award: Sandy Spring Bank, Phil Mantua ’76
Magnificat Award: Karen Egan ’94
Br. Bob Arrowsmith ’63 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award: Dr. Patricia Thomas ’93
We are most grateful to these individuals for their dedication to their communities, their professions, and to Good Counsel.
Your generosity is what makes the Grand Celebration so special. Last year, the Funds for Our Falcons “paddle raise” yielded $162,740 in much-needed support of financial aid for our BEST Scholars. This year, we are raising funds for our institution’s endowment to ensure GC can continue to provide a world class education in the Xaverian tradition for future students for many years to come
I look forward to continuing to work toward a bright future for GC, our students, families, and future Falcons None of this could be achieved without our wonderful faculty and staff, of course
Thank you to the Grand Celebration committee, co-chaired by Vivian Diokno ’96, P’21 and Aimee Loebs-Davis, and the staff of the Advancement Office – in particular, Jessica Laird, Amanda Evans ’19, and Jeanette McCarthy – for their tireless efforts in putting on this event.
We hope you enjoy this evening, celebrating with old friends and new, a time when we can all reflect on the great impact Good Counsel has on so many. In that spirit, we thank you for supporting our students. Your generosity makes a true difference in the lives of our students, faculty, staff, and administration. The continued success of Good Counsel depends on you.
Warmest regards,
John Ciccone President

Each year, Good Counsel's Grand Celebration highlights a special project that needs the support of our school community. This year's 1920sthemed Gala celebrates President John Ciccone's first year, "getting into the swing of things," with a roaring good time to strengthen the tradition of providing unique student experiences at Good Counsel through support for our endowment.

concordia award
Sandy Spring Bank
The Concordia Award recognizes a foundation or corporation that has had significant philanthropic impact on our students and school community.
Sandy Spring Bank was founded in 1868 when 26 Quaker farmers gathered to create the Savings Institution of Sandy Spring. Each founder contributed $3.50 to purchase office supplies and by the end of the first day they had $383 in deposits. In 1918 bank directors helped Sherwood Academy become the area’s first public high school and donated $100 to start support for a community hospital, known today as MedStar Montgomery.
While their employee numbers and deposits have grown, Sandy Spring Bank remains rooted in the Olney community. Sandy Spring Bank has supported Good Counsel for over 12 years, sponsoring the Grand Celebration, Steve Dean, and donated to the campaign to build the Olney campus. The bank became a Community Partner in 2015 and remains one today. Phil Mantua ’76 has served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Sandy Spring Bancorp since 2004, and serves on a number of local non-profit organizations. He is the immediate past chair of Good Counsel’s Board of Directors.

She supports her students in their studies and in their lives, and generously gives back to the school financially. Karen and her husband, Matt, have also seen what Good Counsel can do through the lens as parents, with their daughter, Kate, set to graduate this May.
