Dear Friends of Good Counsel: The last time our professional auctioneer, Matt Newsom, worked his patter in front of a large live audience, pre-pandemic, was on March 7, 2020, at our 32nd annual Grand Celebration. Within a week, campus closed. It would be seven months before we welcomed students back to campus. Matt is back with us tonight for our 33rd Grand Celebration. As befits these unique last 14 months, this event looks like no other we have hosted. Whether in your own home or celebrating within a bubble of your close friends, we hope this evening is a time where you experience the joy of being bonded to one another and the Good Counsel community. What is unchanged about Grand Celebration, virtual or in-person, is that we come together to show our support of this school we love. Tonight, we honor five 2021 Good Counsel visionaries: • Kevin McCormack ’86 receives the Our Lady Award for outstanding volunteer service. • Loren Bass receives the Magnificat Award for exceptional commitment to students. • Saverio Fato ’84 receives the 1958 Cornerstone Award for his remarkable generosity. • Karl Celtnieks receives the Concordia Award for corporate philanthropy. • Dr. Suzie Miller ’95 receives the Brother Robert Arrowsmith ’63 Distinguished Alumnus Award for her commitment to Good Counsel, her professional success, and her contributions to society through leadership, volunteerism, and philanthropy. This evening’s Funds for Our Falcons appeal goes to the heart of why we come together. When you raise your virtual paddle you make a direct, immediate, and positive impact for students. Your generosity is what makes the Grand Celebration so grand. Last year’s funds went to work at once. The $142,460 we raised provided much-needed support of financial aid. This year’s event is chaired by ’96 alumna Vivian Diokno (P’21). Thank you, Vivian, for sharing so generously of your talent, time, and resources. Thanks, too, to the executive committee and the staff of the Advancement Office for such inspiring dedication to this unique undertaking. All certificate-only prizes will be emailed to the winners by Wednesday, May 19, 2021. All other auction items must be collected from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School on either Tuesday, May 18 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. or Wednesday, May 19 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

No exchange or refunds on auction items are permitted. Everything is sold “as is.” Please read specifications and limitations carefully.
Resolution of Disputes
In the event of a dispute, the Auction Chair will have sole and final discretion to determine the winning bidder. The buyer waives any claims for liability against the school or its employees, the auction volunteers, or the donor of the property or services.
Donation Shelf Life
Unless otherwise specified, all auction items and services must be used within one year of the auction. Unless specified, dates and times are to be arranged at the mutual convenience of both the donor and the buyer.
Withdrawal of Auction Items
The Auction Committee reserves the right to withdraw any item for sale prior to the auction.
Payment
All auction items must be paid for in full via credit card on the evening of the event. All items must be removed from the premises by Wednesday, May 19, 2021. Assistance will be available to help winning bidders carry and load items into their cars.

Check out will happen through event.gives/grandcelebration. Winners can now check out right from their mobile phones with credit card and pick up their item at the designated destination. 8
Tax Information
Only the excess of the price you pay for the auctioned item or service, over its fair market value, is deductible for income tax purposes as a charitable contribution to Good Counsel. Your donations of items and services are deductible as allowed by law. Good Counsel is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.

2021 VISIONARY AWARDS DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS AWARD
Dr. Suzanne (Suzie) Miller ’95
The Br. Bob Arrowsmith ’63 Distinguished Alumnus Award is named in honor of Good Counsel’s longest serving Xaverian Brother. The award recognizes someone who demonstrates a commitment to faith, service, and Good Counsel; who has achieved professional success; and who has made significant contributions to society through leadership, volunteerism, and philanthropy. Dr. Suzanne (Suzie) Miller ’95 is the first female recipient of the Br. Bob Arrowsmith ’63 Distinguished Alumnus Award. Suzie has over a decade of experience as a physician serving as chief medical officer of medical technology companies worldwide. An author, consultant and legal expert witness as well, Suzie currently serves as Chief Medical Officer for Ventec Life Systems, makers of the multi-function ventilator VOCSN. After graduating from Good Counsel, Suzie attended Harvard, where she also was a member of the women’s basketball team that upset No. 1 seed Stanford in the 1998 NCAA Tournament. Suzie received her MD from Harvard Medical School, trained in emergency medicine at Stanford University, and then went on to practice medicine on every continent. She currently is living in Australia. Dedicated to serving her communities as well, Suzie provided disaster response after the Haitian earthquake, volunteered in Palestinian refugee camps, and cared for adventure racers from the Sahara Desert to Antarctica. 16

Karl Celtnieks
The Concordia Award recognizes philanthropy that connects powerfully with our mission and the strong sense of community that has always been a characteristic of Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. It is presented to a foundation or corporation who has had a significant philanthropic impact on our students. As parent of a 2022 Falcon, Karl Celtnieks embraced supporting the Good Counsel community from the first day his daughter stepped foot on campus. The owner of Capitol Drywall, Inc. and Selective Demolition and Hauling, which has evolved into three separate entities, Karl is dedicated to providing unparalleled service and quality in all facets of business. As a Good Counsel community partner, Karl generously supports initiatives including the Day of Giving and Founders Day, and regularly sponsors school signature events including the Steve Dean Golf Tournament and the Grand Celebration.

The 1958 Cornerstone Award recognizes outstanding and thoughtful financial generosity (philanthropy – time, talent, treasure) to Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. Saverio Fato ’84 has been a faithful and generous donor to Good Counsel for over 30 years. An Assurance Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers since 2000, Saverio joined PWC in 1988 and works with a broad spectrum of publicly-held clients across the automotive, chemical, and other manufacturing industries. Saverio has supported numerous fundraising initiatives at Good Counsel including the Fund for Good Counsel, the Performing Arts Campaign and, most recently, he became a lead donor in Good Counsel’s effort to strengthen Good Counsel’s endowment.

Loren Bass
The Magnificat Award recognizes a member of the Good Counsel faculty or staff who enthusiastically answers the call to inspire our students to excel, serve, and love. Their exceptional commitment, exemplified through their long-standing tenure, has an immeasurable impact on our students and school community. For more than 20 years, Loren Bass’s name has been synonymous with Good Counsel’s Ryken Studies Program. Assisting highly motivated students diagnosed with mild learning differences, the Ryken Program has prepared hundreds of students for success in college and beyond by helping them become autonomous learners and develop compensation strategies to offset their learning differences. As the program director, Loren is beloved by her students for her caring dedication to ensure their success.

Kevin McCormack ’86
The Our Lady Award recognizes an individual who has provided outstanding volunteer support and a tremendous commitment to the school. Kevin McCormack ’86 has been a generous supporter and volunteer for the Good Counsel community for over 30 years. A senior vice president at Wells Fargo, in June 2020 Kevin completed nine years of service as a member of Good Counsel’s Board of Directors. During his time on the board, Kevin served on the Advancement, Finance and Nominating Committees and helped launch the Alumni Business Networking group. He also was a member of the campaign planning committee for the Performing Arts Center. Kevin regularly attends Good Counsel’s signature events, and has generously supported the school’s annual and campaign fundraising initiatives.
