hotel sweet hotel FROM ESSENCE TO COMPLEXITY DURÁ_MARHUENDA_CLAUDIA/ RUIBAL ELENO_OLGA

-The hibrydation has been realized between the Mar do Oriente’sbuilding of the architects Aires Mateus, and the Philharmonic of Elbe of Herzog and de Meuron. Once the two dominant strategies have been analyzed, they have been combined in a new common strategy. 1.Dominant strategy of Philharmonic of Elbe consists of: -Opaque and hard basement. -Continue space of relation like a public square in the building -A escalator which connects this street witht hiskind of square -There are three parts In themiddle one, the philharmonic with some differents intermediate spaces between the philharmonic and itstwosides. Two uses to both sides. Hotel and apartments. The use of both sides is a side as hotel and the other one as apartments. -Continue cover which unifiesall of pieces. 2.Dominant strategy of Mar do Oriente is: -Opaque and flexible façade as thebasement -A water floor separating the two volumes or the two other elements of these strategy. This site is not accesible and it articulates the building. -Semi-transparent, modulated and orthodox façade above water floor. 3.News paces after the hybridation: -New continue cover -Common and elevated space in the middle of

building thought as restaurant areas with livemusic and differents atmospheres for parties. The use aplicated for our buildingin thePhase 4 was a hotel, and the action was explode and join.

Phase 1_findings: Finding dominant Architectural Strategies of Alcacer Do Sal: -Façade- For one hand the north façade is opaque, closing views and spaces. For the second hand the façade is “opened”. It create with different elements and materials spaces and situations to see a common exterior space. -Balcony- Define a new open space in the private one. -Railing-Let watch to the common space and protect the person -Roof-like a continuity of the common space. Phase 2_reductions: “Minimum Architectural Strategies”. The creation of a common exterior space, respecting the topography of the place, from the definition of the building itself, with its shape and distribution, guiding spaces to the common space. The most important elements of the project are: -The corridor, as part of separation between the street and the public and private spaces. -The facade as well as boundary, creating more open or closed spaces according to the desired orientation. As balconies and the private space, but at the same time as an element which connects it with the common outer space relationship. Phase 3_homogenizations: Different façade with different materials and angles depends of the orientation. One part deny the exterior, and the other part open to the common space. Besides the corridor delimitated this space creating the form of the building and orientated the private spaces. These private spaces are formed with different materials playing with transparences, creating the balconies as a semi private-space. Conformed all these elements we appreciate hoe the private spaces and the public spaces change their rules. 1_PHASE 5

1.Reflection about what is essential and characteristic of a hotel: -Lodging - bedrooms -Controlarea - reception -Hygiene - bathrooms -Feedingarea - restautant andcoffe -Leisurearea – living room, nightclub -It is like massive, common and great home. 2.Explode and join We realized one cut in diagonal in the different parts of the model, reorganized the pieces and created a new structure. - The platform was cut and it got off some loors. - The transparent volumes, too. They werelinked to the platform. - The façade of the other two volumes were cut in diagonal and created a characteristic and different space. This will transform thesebuildings in a luxury hotel.

. Now the private spaces, the rooms, are opener than the balconies. Phase 4_displacements: With the action explode + join we distributed the peaces creating the spaces that a hotel need. With the reposition of some balconies and rooms are created new spaces. Phase 5_hibridations: We have hybridized our project with the philharmonic of Elbe and Allianz Arena of Herzog and De Meuron. The mains modifications have been: -The horizontal communication. -A principal point in the center.
