In Remembrance of Duane Von Krosigk Founding Member of the CFD Old West Museum Cheyenne Frontier Days™ has been shaped by countless volunteers whose dedication and vision helped build the traditions we cherish today. Among them; Duane Von Krosigk, a founding force behind the CFD Old West Museum and a man whose commitment to community and heritage left an enduring mark on Cheyenne. Duane began his remarkable affiliation with Cheyenne Frontier Days™ in 1969, joining the Night Show Committee as a volunteer. From the very beginning, he approached his work with energy, creativity, and a genuine love for the event. His leadership qualities were quickly recognized. By 1973 he was appointed Night Show Chairman, and two years later he took on the role of Ticket Chairman for 1974 and 1975. Under his guidance, the Ticket Committee produced the iconic theme song, “Cheyenne Frontier Days™ Here We Go Again,” a tune used to promote the world’s largest outdoor rodeo and western celebration. Duane’s vision only expanded when he became General Chairman from 1977 to 1979. During his tenure, he helped usher in new ideas and opportunities that strengthened the event’s future. He introduced the first Friday night show—an exciting addition featuring Jerry Jeff Walker and Red Steagall—and created the Buckle Club, a group composed of former committee chairmen dedicated to supporting CFD long after their official service ended. This innovative spirit helped sustain a legacy of volunteer commitment that continues to define the organization. One of Duane’s most lasting contributions was his role in securing a permanent home for Cheyenne Frontier Days™ history and operations. Through his leadership and a cooperative exchange of property with the Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce and Laramie County, CFD acquired ownership of the “New Pavilion,” the building that, today, houses the CFD Old West Museum. Recognizing the importance of preserving the event’s heritage, Duane and the committee also provided $100,000 in start-up funds to transform the concept of a museum into a living, lasting reality. In 2003, Duane was inducted into the Cheyenne Frontier Days™ Hall of Fame. Thanks to his determination, foresight, and unwavering dedication, the Museum stands today as a place where stories of the American West and Cheyenne Frontier Days™ continue to inspire future generations. In February the Museum was also blessed to hold his 90th birthday! Duane passed away on September 24, 2025 surrounded by family. Duane will be remembered for his dedication to family, his service to community, and his unwavering love for Wyoming traditions. 5

A Year of Growth, Gratitude, and Community at the Cheyenne Frontier Days™ Old West Museum As we approach the close of another remarkable year, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of you—our members, supporters, partners, and friends. Your commitment to the Cheyenne Frontier Days™ Old West Museum has made 2025 a year of extraordinary progress, inspiration, and renewed energy. The Museum stands at the heart of our community as a steward of the American West, preserving and sharing the stories that define our Western heritage. In February, we proudly adopted our new Mission Statement and Vision: Mission Statement The Cheyenne Frontier Days™ Old West Museum mission is to preserve and share the heritage of the American West as experienced through the celebration of Cheyenne Frontier Days™. Vision To be a leading museum that preserves, shares, and inspires future generations. Through our work, the legacy of Cheyenne Frontier Days™ continues to inspire, educate, and connect visitors from near and far. Each year, we welcome thousands of guests who come to explore this living legacy, and thanks to your support, our mission continues to grow stronger. This year, we proudly introduced new immersive exhibits that bring Western history to life in fresh and engaging ways. We expanded opportunities for young children, families, and local residents to connect with our stories, further enriching the Museum as a place of learning, discovery, and community connection— while serving as a regional cultural hub. These achievements are possible only because of individuals like you, whether you attend our events, support us through memberships and donations, volunteer your time, or contribute meaningful artifacts that strengthen our collection. Your generosity has been instrumental in preserving significant historical artifacts, enhancing educational programs, maintaining and expanding exhibits, and supporting community events that bring people together. Throughout the year, we welcomed school groups, bus tours, and international visitors, each visit an opportunity to share the unique heritage of Cheyenne Frontier Days™ with audiences from around the world. The Museum recently hosted a wonderful reception celebrating the opening of Rob Hammer’s traveling photography exhibit, which highlights the beauty of the Western landscape.

Director’s Note Back in September, the Museum had the honor of opening the Arlene and Don Kensinger Exhibit, celebrating two legendary figures of Cheyenne Frontier Days™ whose lasting impact continues to be felt today. In attendance were Arlene’s sister, Alice, and her husband, Curt Theobald, along with their wonderful guests and Museum members. Partner with Us to Celebrate Western Spirit 2026 Amanda Marshall & Lonnie Reese
The Museum is now welcoming sponsors for the 45th annual Western Spirit Art Show & Sale, one of our most anticipated events and a cornerstone fundraiser that supports exhibits, educational programs, and daily Museum operations. Each spring, Western Spirit brings together approximately 200 exceptional contemporary Western artworks from artists across the nation. The show features a diverse range of styles and mediums from both long-time artists and up-and-coming creators. In recent years, the exhibition has also expanded to include select student artists, helping cultivate the next generation of Western art talent. Sponsorship plays a vital role in sustaining this important event. Contributions help us host key components such as the Opening Reception, the Artist Awards, the Artist Seminar, and the care for the artwork while in our possession. In return, sponsors receive meaningful visibility, community recognition, and exclusive opportunities to engage with artists and patrons. For this event, we also offer a limited number of Artist Award Sponsorships at $750. This is a fantastic way to support the artists directly. Only 10 of these special opportunities are available, giving sponsors a unique chance to support artists while receiving prominent acknowledgement during the awards ceremony and throughout the event. On the Horizon: A New Speaker Series Focused on History and Cheyenne Frontier Days
The party was a way to celebrate the diverse ways volunteers support the Museum’s mission; assisting with art shows, building and repairing exhibits, restoring carriages, cataloguing collections, serving on committees, greeting visitors, leading tours, and lending a hand at special events. Whether its once a year or several times a week, each contribution helps ensure that the history of Cheyenne Frontier Days™ remains accessible, engaging, and alive.

Following that, the series continues with “Life Between the Rails” presented by Tanya Libolt and Leslie Waggener. Their program delves into the lived experiences of railway workers, families, and communities—highlighting the human side of railroading that often goes untold. Together, these talks promise a rich start to a series designed to deepen understanding of the people, industries, and stories that built the West. More speakers and topics will be announced soon, all with a focus on history, heritage, and the enduring legacy of Cheyenne Frontier Days™.
A Year of Gratitude and Growth The Volunteer Christmas Party served as a reminder that the Museum is far more than an institution, it is a community powered by generosity and shared passion. Happy 25 Work Anniversary Mike!!! th
Mike Kassel, Museum Curator and Associate Director, celebrated an incredible milestone this fall, his 25th work anniversary at the Cheyenne Frontier Days™ Old West Museum. Mike didn’t begin his career as curator; his first role was in exhibits. Over the past 25 years, he has become a truly pivotal part of the Museum. His contributions span countless art shows, fundraisers, galas, Hall of Fame events, carriage moves, parades, exhibit changes, and so much more. Mike is an expert not only in Cheyenne Frontier Days™ history, but also in Wyoming history and even the history of aviation in Wyoming. Anyone who speaks with him walks away having learned something new. Beyond his remarkable knowledge, Mike is known for his welcoming smile and friendly presence, making every visitor feel at home. Thank you, Mike, for 25 years of dedication and service to the Cheyenne Frontier Days™ Old West Museum!

What’s New at the Museum? Exciting Exhibits Coming in 2026! Brad Jorgensen
I hope you’ve all had a moment to catch your breath after CFD and the fall season. Around the Museum, we’ve already shifted gears and are diving full-speed into planning for 2026—and let me tell you, it’s going to be a big year. East Gallery: Art That Sticks with You In April, we’ll bring back our Museum Purchase Program exhibit, spotlighting communitysupported pieces we’ve acquired over the years. It runs April through July and is always one of my favorite ways to show off the diversity of our collection. Then in October, we’ll debut an exhibit featuring the work of Byron Wolfe (October through February). This one’s a bit different—on display will be his sketches, notes, and drafts that walk us through his artistic process. If you like your art with a side of storytelling, this one’s for you.
Cheyenne Room: American Indian Voices at the Forefront With 2026 being CFD’s Year of the American Indian, we’re expanding the CFD History exhibit in the Cheyenne Room with a section that highlights American Indian perspectives and contributions to CFD. During Frontier Days, we’ll also rotate in special Chris LeDoux and Lane Frost items, a huge thanks to both families for continuing to share these fan favorites. Rotunda: Centering American Indian Contributions The Rotunda will align with the CFD theme too, featuring Princess Blue Water, Calvin Jumping Bull, Billy Evans Hunting Horse, and more. We’ll also spotlight the Indian Committee’s long-standing impact. Come July, we’ll feature the 2026 Hall of Fame class with photos and artifacts as always.
Carriage Hall: History in Motion Starting in June, we’ll debut our America 250 exhibit. This one highlights U.S. Presidents who’ve visited Cheyenne Frontier Days™ over the years. And we’re not stopping there. On June 12th, we’re throwing an official launch party for the exhibit. Expect a Teddy Roosevelt impersonator, activities for all ages, and a photo op that brings 1910 Cheyenne to life. Later in the year (we’re eyeing September), we’ll host a JFK-themed brunch event where guests can experience the carriage hall as it looked during his 1960 visit. Special thanks to Drs. Keren and Fred Emerich for their generous support of this exhibit. Their contribution is what made this celebration of America’s 250th possible. 18
Vandewark Gallery: Hawaiian Cowboys & the Rodeo Story You Didn’t Know The Cheyenne Frontier Days™ Old West Museum is proud to present Aloha Vaqueros; an international traveling exhibit that will be on display from April to September 2026. Originating from the Museo del Vaquero de las Californias, the exhibit celebrates the multicultural roots of ranching by tracing the connections between Hawaiian Paniolos, Mexican Vaqueros, and the American Western Cowboy. Through powerful storytelling, historical photographs, and authentic artifacts, including saddles, hats, and traditional gear, Aloha Vaqueros
brings to life the rich cultural exchange that shaped modern ranching and rodeo cultures. Visitors will explore how Spanish and Mexican traditions influenced Hawaiian ranching practices and rodeo culture, and how these traditions, in turn, influenced the ranching and rodeo culture across the American West.
With this support, we will honor this important chapter of shared history, inspire pride across cultures, and make the legacy of the Vaquero, Paniolo and the great American Cowboy a vital part of Wyoming’s voice of the nation’s Semi quincentennial celebration in 2026.
The exhibit has a deep connection to Cheyenne through Ikua Purdy, the Hawaiian cowboy who won the 1908 World Roping Championship at Cheyenne Frontier Days™. Purdy was later inducted into both the Cheyenne Frontier Days™ Hall of Fame and the National Cowboy Hall of Fame. His story offers a compelling local bridge to this broader narrative of cultural fusion.
Pop-Ups & Special Projects
The exhibition will be supported by a rich crossculture educational programming experience to reach visitors of all ages. Aloha Vaqueros offers an opportunity to elevate diverse voices, celebrate underrepresented heritage, and engage our community and visitors in a meaningful cultural dialogue. Extensive educational programming will further enhance public understanding and connection.
We’re also working on rotating displays about rodeo myths, stock contractors, vintage firearms, George’s Hat Shop, and textile stories—with a big assist from the WHEELs. These will pop up around the building as space allows, so keep an eye out. 2026 is already shaping up to be one of our most ambitious years yet, and I couldn’t do it without the incredible help from our volunteers, committees, and supporters. A Stunning Murano Glass Horse Joins the Museum Collection

Recently, Mr. Adam Johnson graciously gifted the Museum a stunning glass horse sculpture. This piece, titled “Cavallo Scaver,” was created by renowned glass master Pino Signoretto. Born in Favaro Veneto on September 28, 1944, Signoretto began working with glass at just ten years old. As a teenager, he trained under legendary masters such as Alfredo Barbini, and over the course of his career he collaborated with many notable artists, including Salvador Dalì. The sculpture is made of Murano glass, crafted on the island of Murano in Venice, Italy, an area celebrated for its glassmaking traditions that span more than a thousand years. “Cavallo Scaver” is created in the traditional Murano style and holds special meaning at the Old West Museum. This timeless art form, rooted in centuries of craftsmanship, beautifully reflects the longstanding relationship between humans and horses. Come experience this remarkable piece at the Old West Museum and take a moment to enjoy its intricate details!

Events in Review
Celebrating Fall 2025: Events, Exhibits, and Memories Fall at the Old West Museum has been full of incredible events and memorable moments!
November Events: •
Miss Frontier Legacy Bronze Unveiling: After two years in the making, we celebrated the stunning new bronze sculpture honoring past, present, and future Miss Frontiers. This piece now welcomes visitors to the Museum with grace and pride.

Estate Planning Event: Our first panel event featured four experts sharing the importance of leaving a legacy. We partnered with 5 to Thrive, an organization encouraging Wyomingites to dedicate 5% of their estate to nonprofits.

New Exhibit Opening: Museum Intern, Owen Reese presented a Master’s thesis exhibit exploring C.B. Irwin and his family, who shaped the early years of Cheyenne Frontier Days™. The exhibit highlights Museum artifacts and original research from historic newspapers in Wyoming, Nebraska, and New York.
September Highlights: We kicked things off by hosting the Cheyenne Frontier Days™ Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the CFD Event Center, celebrating the Hall of Fame Class of 2025 inductees. Shortly after, the Arlene and Don Kensinger exhibit opened with a fantastic reception. Our Exhibits Manager, Brad Jorgensen, truly captured the legacy of this remarkable couple. October Events: •
Art Uncork’d: Laramie watercolor artist Joy Keown led another successful session. Each painting turned out beautifully, with unique personality and style.

Paranormal Tours: In partnership with Haunting Across America, we hosted three spooky tours that got everyone into the Halloween spirit!

4th Annual Thankful Thursday: What an incredible night! Thanks to everyone who donated or participated, we raised $27,540 to support upcoming Museum renovations and prepare for Aloha Vaqueros!

Wild West Trunk or Treat: One of October’s crowd favorites! With over 2,000 attendees, creative trunks from nonprofits, and fun costumes from K-pop fans to firefighters, the event was a huge success. Special thanks to Miss Frontier Katherine Olson and her Ladyin-Waiting, MeadowAnn King, for judging the trunks, and to the fire department for their amazing firetruck display.
