Dear Spring Island Member, We are excited to introduce the 2023-2024 Tournament Book to the membership. We look forward to the upcoming season which will include updated tournaments and golf programs for the whole membership to enjoy.

This year’s Tournament Book includes the complete 2023-2024 schedule and entry forms for the “major” tournaments along with information on Twilight Events. Each “click here” tab is hyperlinked to the corresponding tournament’s registration page.

As a reminder, all 2023/2024 tournament registration will be available on the Club’s website via the Golf Genius Event Portals. Women’s Play Day will continue to be held on Wednesdays, and we ask that those interested in participating register by 3:00pm on the Tuesday prior.

Posting Scores USGA Handicap Guidelines must always be observed when posting your score.

Please note: 1. Post ALL scores (As of 2019, scores may not be posted during rounds that you are playing alone).

2. Adjust any hole score downward when it is higher than the maximum number of strokes you are allowed to post (Net Double Bogey Maximum).

3. If you start, but do not complete a hole, post for handicap purposes the score you most likely would have made. (This may not be the maximum for that hole.)

4. If you do not play a hole, post a score which is the sum of par plus the strokes you would get on that hole.

5. If you play 14 or more holes, post a score for the 18-holes using the above guideline to determine your score. If you play 7-13 holes, post a 9-Hole score.

6. If you play nine holes two different days, post your 9-hole scores, and let the computer calculate your 9 and 18-hole handicaps.

7. For the system to reflect your handicap index most accurately, it is important that you post every eligible round on the day of play. If you need assistance in posting scores, a member of the Professional Staff is happy to assist.

ADDITIONAL COMPETITIVE OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE

for Old Tabby Links Women Golfers LOW COUNTRY TEAM PLAY Spring Island women participate in the Lowcountry Team Play Association, a golf league that consists of 19 private clubs in our area. There are five divisions with seven teams in each. Matches are played with six players from each club (and some clubs field 2 or 3 teams). Two players from each club team play against two from the opposing club: Match Play, best ball of twosome, 18 holes, 1 point per hole, no strokes. The team with the most points at the end of the season moves up a division and the one with the lowest points moves down. We play a round robin format and each club has a bye when they host, so there's no home field advantage.

3-Club Challenge Thursday, December 7th 9-Holes | Individual 2022/2023 Champions: Dave Robinson & Marla Keppler Due to the nature of this event, all players are requested to use a riding cart.

Family Members & Social Members are not eligible for this event.

This event is open to all male and female golfing members with established USGA handicaps.

Play will be distributed into three divisions: Women’s Gold/Lime Combo Tee, Men’s White Tees, and Men’s Green Tees.

Women’s Overall Champion will be the player with the lowest net score.

Men’s Overall Champion will be determined by a chip-off between the White & Green Tee Division Winners.

Thursday, December 7st FORMAT: Individual Stroke Play (Front Nine) Select your favorite three clubs to use for the entire competition.

2:00pm – Shotgun Start Following Play – Cocktails and Light Appetizers Handicap indexes as of Tuesday, December 5th will be used for this event.

“Offspring” Parent-Child Thursday, December 28th 18-Holes | 2-Person Chapman Inaugural Champions: Mike Wheeler & Nick Taylor Join us for the second annual “Offspring” Parent-Child event at Old Tabby Links! The event will consist of 18-Holes of Chapman format between either a Parent and Child, or a Grandparent and Grandchild. Don’t have an Offspring? You may “adopt” one for the day from a fellow member!

All participants must have a USGA Handicap to be eligible to play.

Wine & Wedge Thursday, February 8th Please join us for this year’s rendition of the “Wine & Wedge” held on the front nine of Old Tabby Links. This 3:00pm shotgun will transform the golf course into a Par 3 event, where our primary objective is fun and camaraderie!

Valentine’s Day Twilight Scramble Wednesday, February 14th 9-Holes | 4-Person Scramble Our February rendition of Twilight will take place on Valentine’s Day! Unlike our typical twilight events, couples will be kept together for this round.

Separate dinner reservations are required as the Valentine’s Dinner will be hosted at the Golf House, and limited reservations will be available.

This event is open to all male and female golfing members with established USGA handicaps.

Founder’s Cup Friday, February 23rd 18-Holes | Mixed Member-Member “2022” Champions: Steve Sorem & Gloria Pinza Due to the nature of this event, all players are requested to use a riding cart.

Play will be from the set of tees where the majority of your rounds have been posted from.

This event is open to all male and female golfing members with established USGA handicaps. This event is 18-holes and is a 2- person team event. Teams must consist of one male and one female member. You may create your own team or be paired by the Professional Staff.

Friday, February 23rd FORMAT: Better Ball of Pair – NET (85% handicap) 11:00am-12:00pm – Buffet Lunch in the Golf House 11:00am – Practice Area Opens 12:30pm – Shotgun Event to conclude around 6:00pm Handicap indexes as of Sunday, February 18th will be used for this event.

Moore Putting Tuesday, March 5th 2023 Champion: Ron Morrow Come join your fellow members for an entertaining putting contest. Nine holes will be converted into a putting course that will test your skills and patience. This annual event is sure to be a great time and is open to all golfing members.

Palmer Cup Friday & Saturday, March 15th & 16th 2023 Champion: West Join us for 2024 Palmer Cup to see if the East side or the West side of the Island will be the new reigning champions!

Friday, March 15th 6:00pm Pairings Party – Golf House Captains from each side of the Island will choose their teams and pick who they will be playing against.

The evening will start with cocktails and appetizers and be followed by a buffet dinner.

Saturday, March 16th 11:30am - 12:30pm Buffet Lunch in the Golf House

1:00pm Shotgun Start Two members from the East Team will compete against two members of the West Team in a Scramble, Match Play format.

Handicap indexes as of Wednesday, March 13th will be used for this event.

Entry Fee: $95 per player including: tee gift, Friday & Saturday receptions, and a lunch before play.

Non-participating spouses and friends are welcome to attend the dinners for an additional cost.

Thursday – Saturday, April 4th-6th 2023 Champions: Carin Sherman & Tina Mayers Join us for this year’s Women’s Member-Guest! As is custom, the event will consist of 36-Holes, played over the course of 2 days. Teams will be arranged in 5 flights based on combined handicap indexes. Each flight winner will qualify for the Sudden Death Playoff to determine the Overall Champion. This event is open to the first 48 teams. The number of flights is subject to change based upon the number of participants.

Women’s Club Championship Wednesday & Thursday, April 24th-25th 2023 Champion: Kate Loftus You are cordially invited to register for this year’s Women’s Club Championship.

As in year’s past, three divisions will be offered: 36-Hole Championship Proper, 36Hole Gold/Lime Tee Stableford, and the 18-Hole Lime Tee Stableford.

2024 Old Tabby Cup OTLWGA Spring 18-Hole Individual Match Play Event

2023 Champion: Cherie Riesenberg Players will be seeded by handicap index and will play a Match Play format against their fellow competitors. The goal is to field 16 players allowing for 5 rounds of play to determine our overall champion. Rounds will be adjusted based on the number of participants. All handicaps will be determined by the players USGA handicap index at the time of each match. All matches will be handicapped off the low handicap of the match. The overall success of this events depends highly on scheduling and completing the matches within the established timelines. Players that do not think their schedule fits with the timing of this event simply should not play. Matches that extend to the deadline date have three options: • Option one - the match gets played • Option two - one player can make it and the other player cannot. The team that can make it is deemed the winner of the match • Option three - neither team can play, and the match is forfeited Players will be responsible for scheduling and completing matches within the allotted time period for each match. Deadline to register is Sunday, January 7th

The start time is at 9:00am for 18-holes, and 10:00am for 9-holes unless otherwise noted.

The Professional Staff will arrange all games and assign partners when necessary.

Please Note: The Professional Staff will post all Wednesday scores immediately following play for applicable formats. Please do not enter your score on your own.

The Ringer Board & Birdie Jar is in the Women’s Locker Room. Ringer scores & birdies can be posted from any round provided it is at least nine holes and attested by one other club member.

Wednesday, October 18th Chaffin Cup Practice Get ready for the upcoming Chaffin Cup. The Golf Shop will pair teams and offer a format similar to the impending event (no Cameron Cup Points will be awarded this week).

Wednesday, October 24th & 25th Chaffin Cup – Member/Member Wednesday, November 1st Format: WGA Opening Day 10:00am – Nine-hole scramble and luncheon, followed by WGA Annual Meeting.

Wednesday, November 8th 18-Hole Format: Odds – The player with the lowest combined net scores on the odd numbered holes win.

9-Hole Format: 2-Person Shamble – Each player will tee off. Select the best drive and play your own ball in from there. The team score will be the best net score of the pair.

Wednesday, November 15th 18 & 9-Hole Format: Better Ball of Pair – Blind Draw for partners. Teams will be selected by the golf staff during play. Players will not know who their partner is until they finish.

Wednesday, November 22nd 18 & 9-Hole Format: Par 3’s and Par 5’s – This event will combine the total net scores on just the par 3’s and par 5’s.

Wednesday, November 29th Format: WGA Social Mixer 10:00am – Nine-hole scramble and luncheon

Wednesday, December 6th 18 & 9-Hole Format: Par 4 day – This event will just use the player’s combined net score on all of the par 4’s.

Wednesday, December 13th Format: WGA Social Mixer 10:00am – Nine-hole scramble and luncheon Wednesday, December 20th 18 & 9-Hole Format: Best 6 holes on each side – Your lowest net 6 holes on the front nine will be combined with your lowest 6 holes on the back nine. Nine-hole players will only count 6 holes from the front nine.

Wednesday, December 27th 18 & 9-Hole Format: “Beat the Pro” - Match your net score against the Pro’s gross score and win a prize. Cup points awarded for low net individual stroke play.

Wednesday, January 3rd 18 & 9-Hole Format: Better Ball of Pair – Blind Draw for partners. Teams will be selected by the golf staff during play. Players will not know who their partner is until they finish.

Wednesday, January 10th 18 & 9-Hole Format: Stableford Point System – Points will be awarded based on your net scores. The players with the highest point totals will win.
