Dear OA Family,
This year, Pope Leo XIV has named a Special Jubilee Year of St. Francis of Assisi, marking 800 years since his death and inviting us to renew our focus on lives of grace, peace, and spiritual growth. It’s a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the life and witness of St. Francis and the simple yet powerful call to live with humility, compassion, and care for others. At Oldenburg Academy, this feels especially close to home, as these values are not only part of our history— they are truly lived out each day in our community.
Throughout this year, our Mission Mondays have created space to pause, reflect, and put our faith into action. Whether through prayer, service, or small acts of kindness, our students are learning that the Franciscan way is often found in the everyday moments—in how we care for one another and respond to the needs around us. It is a joy to witness their growth and the energy and sense of purpose they bring to our school.
I am deeply grateful for the people who make Oldenburg Academy such a special place—our students, families, faculty and staff, alumni, and generous supporters. Rooted in the legacy of the Sisters of St. Francis, our community continues to be guided by their spirit of faith, service, and humility. Each person plays an important role in creating an environment where our mission is not only taught, but genuinely lived.
As Pope Leo XIV reminds us, “Young people are not only the future of the Church—they are its present, called to bring light and hope to the world today.” We see that lived out in our students, and it is a privilege to walk alongside them on their journey.
As we look ahead, I invite you to join us for One Day at OA on May 1. This day of giving supports our mission in meaningful ways and helps ensure that the opportunities we offer today continue for future generations.
During this Jubilee Year, may we all be reminded—like St. Francis—to live simply, love generously, and be instruments of peace in the world around us. I am grateful for each of you and for the many ways you support and strengthen the Oldenburg Academy community.

Dear OA Family,
It’s hard to believe we are already heading into the final stretch of the 2025-2026 school year. This time of year always leads me to a time of reflection, and I have to say, I am so very proud of what this year has looked like at Oldenburg Academy. It has been filled with personal and spiritual growth, new opportunities, and so many moments that remind me why OA is such a special place.
One of our biggest highlights has been the implementation of our Mission Mondays. Watching this unfold and truly come to life has been so rewarding. Our students have had the opportunity to step outside the classroom into real, meaningful experiences on a regular basis. From service activities and career exploration to faith formation and hands-on learning, I have loved seeing them try new things each week. It hasn’t been perfect, that is part of trying something new, but it has been incredible! I have seen so much growth as the students have taken risks, engaged in learning in different ways, and represented Oldenburg Academy with grace and dignity. I believe this program is exposing our students to so many different opportunities and is helping to shape them into confident, thoughtful young adults.
I also have to give a huge shout out to our senior class. They have been such a special group. They are high achievers, they are involved, and they genuinely care about our school and our community. They have been strong leaders and, more importantly, they are just great people! They are kind, supportive, and always willing to help when needed. They have set a really positive example for the underclassmen, and they will absolutely be missed. It has been a joy to watch them grow into the young men and women they are today and I am so excited to see what comes next for each of them!
As you flip through this magazine, I hope you get a glimpse of what I see every single day. Oldenburg Academy is a very special place. The students give us so many reasons to be proud each day. Thank you, as always, for your support and for being such an important part of our Oldenburg Academy family!

The Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce recognized Mr. Jason Walke as Educator of the Year on Tuesday, March 10th. As Director of Academic Innovation, Mr. Walke plays a key role in leading the Mission Monday program and inspiring student growth. We proudly recognized the remarkable dedication of our faculty members celebrating milestone years of service this year. Honored for five years of commitment were Mrs. Parmer, Mr. Alig, Mrs. Schneider, Mr. Jensen, Mrs. Jones, and Mrs. Niese (not pictured), while Mrs. Yane marked an impressive ten-year milestone. Most notably, Mrs. Weberding was celebrated for an extraordinary thirty years of service—a testament to her lasting impact and unwavering dedication.

Juniors gained a behind-the-scenes look at state government through Indiana’s Page Program at the Statehouse, experiencing firsthand how the legislative process works. Special thanks to State Senator Jean Leising for making this opportunity possible.
A highlight of this year’s dinner auction, “Twister Tip-Off: A Night Under the Net,” was the paddle raiser uniting our community in raising $100,000 to fund mini buses supporting Mission Mondays and our innovative learning schedule.
Seniors enjoyed a morning connecting with nature and exploring the outdoors. Discovering fossils in our famed Indiana creek beds, identifying spring ephemeral wildflowers, and fishing for bass and bluegill in a local pond, students learned about the natural world and deepened their appreciation of our beautiful countryside. The day was part of our Mission Monday initiative and reflected our Franciscan value for the year, care for creation— offering time to slow down, take in the beauty around them, and renew a sense of gratitude and stewardship for God’s creation.

Going Beyond in Academics
STARTed Up Competition
Two teams from Oldenburg Academy have earned spots in the STARTedUP Regional Competition, one of the nation’s largest student business pitch contests, which draws more than 2,000 Indiana high school participants each year. Among just 74 teams advancing statewide, Caly Evers and Bridget Lohmueller were selected for Patchables, a customizable sweatshirt concept featuring interchangeable patches designed to reduce the need for multiple purchases, while Eleanor Eaglin and Rachel Cigolotti advanced with SwiftClean, a hands-free, countertop dental-cleaning device aimed at individuals with limited hand or arm mobility. Both teams will compete at the regional round on April 22 at IU Indy, joining 12 teams from across East Central Indiana for a chance to move on to the state finals.
Rube Goldberg Competition
Oldenburg Academy proudly earned first place in Division II at this year’s Rube Goldberg Machine Contest, hosted by Genesis: Pathways to Success at Jac-Cen-Del. Competing against nine teams, the Koopa Troopas impressed judges with their creative and complex machine designed to complete the challenge of “Open A Box.” Their innovative chain reaction not only secured them the top spot in their division but also earned the prestigious “Most Rube Goldbergian” Award, highlighting their exceptional ingenuity, teamwork, and out-of-the-box thinking.
Mental Health Awareness at OA
At Oldenburg Academy, a sustained commitment to student well-being continues to make a meaningful impact. The school’s National Honor Society was recently awarded a grant from the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) to support ongoing efforts to raise awareness about the increasing prevalence of mental health challenges among teens. Building on this mission, OA successfully hosted its first Mental Health Week, featuring activities integrated throughout the school day such as a guest speaker, classroom discussions, mindfulness tools, therapy dog visits, and community-building events. These initiatives complement a program that has already been in place for several years: Teen Mental Health First Aid training. With freshmen and sophomores continuing to earn certification each year, the entire student body is equipped with the “Look, Ask, Listen, Help Your Friend” action plan. Together, these efforts highlight Oldenburg Academy’s proactive and evolving approach to fostering a supportive, informed, and compassionate school community.
AP Environmental Science Students Design Their Own Sustainable Houses
To learn about the tenet of green building, AP Environmental Science students designed their own sustainable houses replete with solar panels and wind turbines for off-grid electricity production. Many of the homes incorporated green roofs, south facing glazed windows, and extra insulation to conserve energy. All of the models were small and included low-flow showers and energy-saving appliances, reflecting a sustainable residential design.

Experience Picasso Up Close
Sometimes, being in the right place at the right time can open the door to extraordinary experiences. Recently, Ms. Hudepohl and several AP Art students were given a rare and unforgettable opportunity to view—and even hold—an original work by Pablo Picasso. This remarkable moment was made possible through the generosity of Jim Meyer and his friend Rick Johnston, whose own story adds a layer of inspiration to the experience. Surrounded by the rich history and beauty of Picasso’s work, students gained a deeper appreciation for one of the most influential artists of all time, turning an ordinary day into an encounter with artistic legacy.
Fine Arts Field Trip at Marian
During a recent Mission Monday, our Freshmen spent the day at Newfields, touring the historic Lilly House before engaging with art through the lens of our Franciscan value of Care for Creation. A special thank you to Marian Art professor, Dr. Jamie Higgs for guiding students in seeing how creativity and stewardship intersect.

Environmental Science Field Trips
AP Environmental Science students took field trips to Brookville Lake where students collected macroinvertebrates, indicator species of a healthy aquatic ecosystem and visited Josie Wenning’s farm to learn about no-till agriculture and rotational grazing.
ISSMA Music Competition
Congratulations to the Oldenburg Academy students who showcased their talent at recent ISSMA music competitions, earning Gold Medals across all divisions. On January 31, members of the OA music department competed in Columbus, Indiana, where their dedication and hard work resulted in outstanding performances. Representing the school were Simon Nobbe ’27 on B-flat clarinet, Greg Heile ’26 on double bass, a string quartet featuring Bridgette Ehrhard ’26, Felicity Brelage ’26, Aaron Bauer ’26, and Laura Dennis ’26, and a string trio with Clare Scheidler ’27, Anessa Uhlarik ’28, and Sam Brennan ’26. Their accomplishments reflect both individual commitment and the strength of OA’s fine arts program.
Continuing this success, on February 7, additional students excelled in vocal and piano performances, each earning Gold ratings in their divisions. Honorees included Kathryn Mack (“Shenandoah”), Anessa Uhlarik (“A Parting Blessing”), Rebecca Durham (“The Sandman”), Frankie Fry (“The Spinning Song”), Ryan Hautman (“Solfeggio”), and Josie Wenning (“Vivace” from Clementi Sonata in C Major). Together, these achievements highlight the dedication, talent, and passion of OA students and their continued excellence in music.
Culinary Arts Field Trip
Culinary arts students enjoyed an enriching field trip to Sourdough Rising Bakery in Batesville, where they explored the science behind crafting sourdough bread. During the visit, the bakery’s owner shared her inspiring journey of building the business, offering students a glimpse into the passion and dedication required to run a successful bakery. Students also discovered the intricacies of flour milling and gained a deeper understanding of different grain varieties. The experience concluded on a high note with a delicious sampling of freshly baked sourdough bread.
Going Beyond in Faith life
Catholic Schools Week
In January, students celebrated Catholic Schools Week with a variety of faith-filled and fun activities. The week included a service project collecting items for Safe Passage and the Batesville Crisis Pregnancy Center, Mission Monday activities, donuts and muffins for students, and a staff lunch. Students also enjoyed themed dress-out days, including flannel day and patriotic day. The celebration concluded with an all-school Mass. It was a meaningful week of prayer, service, and community for all.
Indianapolis March For Life
A group of OA students and faculty traveled to Indianapolis for the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children, joining in Mass and the March for Life.
Sophomore Retreat
The sophomore class recently took part in a meaningful retreat day centered on faith, service, and class unity. The day began with a special Mass celebrated by Fr. Jack Wright, setting the tone for reflection and growth. Students then came together to enhance Oldenburg Academy’s campus grounds before heading out in small groups to serve at various community locations, including St. Joseph’s Catholic Shop, Greensburg Bread of Life, Batesville Food Pantry, Twice Blessed, St. Nicholas, The YMCA, and All Saints Preschool. The retreat concluded with time at Batesville Park, where students shared lunch and enjoyed games together—bringing a memorable day to a joyful close.
Assisi and Rome Pilgrimage
Oldenburg Academy’s nine-day pilgrimage to Assisi and Rome invites students into a deeply meaningful journey of faith and reflection, following in the footsteps of St. Francis and St. Clare. Since 2016, OA has partnered with Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati to offer this sacred experience, providing students the opportunity to step away from daily life and encounter God in new and lasting ways. Each year, a different member of the OA faculty or staff is invited to journey alongside the student pilgrims, walking with them in faith and sharing in the spirit of the Franciscan tradition.
This year’s pilgrims—seniors Felicity Brelage, Bridgette Ehrhard, Maddie Ryan, and Rachel Suttmann—traveled to Assisi on Easter Monday, April 6, accompanied by Mrs. Jenny Schneider, OA’s chemistry and physics teacher. Immersed in the beauty and simplicity of the Franciscan way of life, students return with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper awareness of God’s presence in their lives. Our hope is that they carry these experiences with them as they continue to grow in faith, remaining attentive to God’s presence and open to where He is leading them.
“We attended Mass each day at various unique locations, including the chapel where St. Carlos Acutis used to attend, San Damiano Chapel, St Francis Basilica, La Verna’s Stigmata Chapel, Greccio, and a chapel in St Peter’s Basilica. The St. Clare’s walk, a night hike along the path Clare took as she left home to join St Francis, displayed her courage for leaving home to venture into the unknown. This struck me as I know I would not be able to do the same. She left everything.”

This trip brought me closer to the stories I’ve heard of saints all my life. I was able to walk through the same places St. Francis and St. Clare did, which reminded me that they were real people, not all that different from me today.

Senior Mass
In December, the seniors joined nearly 1,300 peers from schools across the Archdiocese for a special Mass celebrated by Archbishop Thompson. During the liturgy, he shared a powerful message that resonated deeply with the students: “O Jesus, I surrender myself to You. Take care of everything!” Following the Mass, Oldenburg Academy seniors gathered for a celebratory lunch at Brozinni Pizzeria, capping off a meaningful and memorable day together.

Ash Wednesday Mass
Earlier this spring, OA students, faculty, and staff gathered in prayer to celebrate Ash Wednesday and mark the beginning of the Lenten season. As ashes were placed on our foreheads, we were reminded to turn our hearts back to what matters most, setting the tone for a season of prayer, reflection, and renewal that carried us through to Easter.

Class of 2030 Scholarship Ceremony
Congratulations to the Class of 2030 scholarship recipients! A total of 27 students have earned one or more scholarships, and we are excited to welcome them to Oldenburg Academy. Thank you to the scholarship donors who joined us for this special celebration. Your generosity makes a lasting impact on our students and their futures. We would also like to extend a special thank you to current OA student Clare Scheidler for providing a warm and thoughtful student welcome. The incoming freshman class represents eight different schools, bringing a wonderful diversity of experiences and talents. We look forward to welcoming the entire Class of 2030 back to OA for the Freshman Picnic on May 8th!

Senior Visits with the Oldenburg Sisters
Once a week, during the 4th quarter in senior religion classes, the seniors have a treasured opportunity to visit with some of the Sisters who are in St. Clare Hall.
Semi- Formal Dance
This year’s Semi-Formal was a night to remember, filled with energy, laughter, and a packed dance floor. A highlight of the evening was the celebration of our court, with special congratulations to this year’s winners: Duke and Duchess: Auggie Sheppard & Gwen Ehrhard, Lord and Lady: Luke Aicken & Ellie Walke, Prince and Princess: Connor Holder & Cecilia Wolfe, and King and Queen: Aaron Bauer & Eleanor Eaglin.

In March, the OA Drama Department did a beautiful job performing the musical Anastasia! Congratulations to all of the students who participated, as well as to our Drama Director, Morgan Straber, and Assistant Director, Brooklynn Weisenbach Hartman.
History, Culture, and the Alps: A Transformative Spring Break

This past spring break, OA embarked on a journey of a lifetime through Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Our trip began in Munich, where we explored the city by bike while gaining insight into its history, art, and culture. We also visited BMW World and Olympic Park, which are two important aspects of the city of Munich. One of the most impactful moments of our time in Germany was visiting the Dachau Concentration Camp. It offered a powerful opportunity for reflection and a deeper understanding of history.
From there, we traveled to Neuschwanstein Castle and got a stunning view of the Alps. Passing through Innsbruck, we were introduced to Austrian traditions and history before making a quick stop in Liechtenstein to add another country to our journey. We then stayed in Lucerne, Switzerland where we were awestruck by the natural beauty of the Alps and lakes. We explored the city and its waterfront, which allowed us to experience both its rich history and its peaceful atmosphere.
Each destination we travelled to gave us opportunities to try new foods, observe local customs, and deepen our understanding of different cultures, making the entire journey both meaningful and unforgettable.
Going Beyond in Athletics
This winter season was filled with outstanding performances, historic achievements, and continued growth across all of our athletic programs. From record-breaking swims at the state level to milestone accomplishments on the basketball court, our student-athletes demonstrated dedication, resilience, and school pride every step of the way. Their hard work not only led to impressive team success but also highlighted individual excellence that will be remembered for years to come.
Swim
The girls swim relay teams powered their way to the sectional finals, while Avery Austin advanced individually and secured an impressive 15th-place finish in the 100 breaststroke.
The boys swim team matched that momentum with both relay teams also reaching the sectional finals. Individually, Grant Rosenberger qualified in both the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, while Nash King turned in a remarkable postseason. He advanced in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, capturing the sectional title in the latter event. Capping off an exceptional year, King went on to shine at the state level, earning a runner-up finish in the 200 IM and placing third in the 100 backstroke— an outstanding conclusion to a memorable season.
Congratulations to Mark Wilder and Andrew Oesterling __ on their induction into the Ammann Brinkmoeller Athletic Hall of Fame. This honor recognizes individuals who excel in athletics, academics, and community involvement while upholding strong sportsmanship and OA values, and who continue to make an impact beyond their time at OA.

Girls Basketball
The girls capped off an impressive season with a 19–4 record, earning a No. 6 ranking in the state in Class 1A. Senior Rachel Suttmann led the way with a standout year, garnering IBCA Senior All-State honorable mention honors. She also reached a major milestone by joining the 1,000-point club and will continue her basketball career at Holy Cross College next season.
Junior Gina Grote also earned statewide recognition, being named to the ICGSA All-State Third Team while picking up IBCA Underclass All-State honorable mention honors, underscoring the team’s depth and bright future.
Boys Basketball
The boys closed out the season with an 11–13 record and made a strong postseason push, advancing to the sectional semifinals. Junior Adam Weber turned in a standout campaign, etching his name into the record books by climbing to fifth all-time in career assists, sixth in career steals, and first in career deflections. He also set a new single-game steals record during the season.
In February, the program also celebrated its future as the 2nd-, 3rd-, and 4th-grade Dirt Road teams took the court at halftime of a varsity game, showcasing the next generation of talent. The evening concluded with a postgame poster signing, bringing players and fans together to cap off a memorable night.
With much of the roster set to return, the team is well-positioned to build on this year’s progress and carry momentum into next season.
Going Beyond in Alumni news
After four years in healthcare revenue consulting, Greg Schroeder ‘17 recently stepped into a new role as Manager of Patient Revenue at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. His work centers on translating complex financial data into clear, actionable insights that help executive leaders make sound decisions and ultimately support the delivery of high-quality patient care.
Jean Ann Rippe Kocher ‘12 and her husband, Will welcomed baby Everett Bruce in June 2025, and Molly Rippe Arnsby ‘14 and husband Samuel welcomed baby Liam Francis in January.
Madelyn Hunger Moorman ‘14 married Ty Moorman in November 2025.
Dave Kuntz ‘17, graduated from Rose-Hulman in 2021. He then went on to serve in the U.S. Army for four and a half years at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, including a seven month deployment to Iraq. Dave recently retired from the U.S. Army in January at the rank of Captain. He is currently the laboratory supervisor at Arcwood environmental, a hazardous waste treatment company, where he oversees the chemical testing on samples the Indianapolis plant receives.

Tori Holtel Hoffman ‘11 and her husband Spencer welcomed Louisa Mae in January.
This spring, Ava Allen ‘22 participated in an internship with Rose & Co. Estates as a Compliance Intern in London, England. During her time there, she gained firsthand experience in the property management sector and observed the similarities and differences between real estate practices in the United States and the United Kingdom.
She further developed her skills by conducting an internal audit, creating and implementing standard operating procedures, and developing and applying new pricing strategies. Ava is currently a senior at the University of Florida and will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science.

OA Baby Bibs
Oldenburg Academy is celebrating some of the sweetest new additions to our community! In partnership with the Alumni Association, the school has created adorable custom baby bibs for alumni who are welcoming little ones into their families. It’s a fun and heartfelt way to share in the excitement and celebrate the next generation of Twisters. We love staying connected with our alumni—not just in their accomplishments, but in life’s biggest (and cutest!) moments too.

Kirsten Stenger Wiegand ‘16, husband Peter, and older brother Quinn welcomed baby Blair in January.
After a two year apprenticeship at Black Diamond Gun Works in Maria Stein, Ohio, Matthew Horninger ‘09 was awarded entry as a Professional Stockmaker to the American Custom Gunmakers Guild. The entry process consisted of collecting references from other professional members, customers, and having two examples of his work rigorously judged by the other professional members. Matthew plans to continue his work as a stockmaker at Black Diamond.
e Easter Egg Hunt on April 4th was a joyful celebration of the Easter season, bringing many families back to campus for a day lled with laughter, community spirit, and festive fun for all ages. A heartfelt thank you goes to our Alumni Association for their planning and hosting of this special tradition, as well as to our dedicated student and faculty volunteers whose time and energy made the event such a success. We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this meaningful community celebration possible!
