NEW MEXICO GOVERNOR PRAISES OIL INDUSTRY FOR OPPORTUNITIES

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham professed her full-throttled support for the oil sector on Tuesday, telling industry leaders that her cabinet secretaries works for them and that she hopes the state can overtake North Dakota as the No. 2 oil producer among states.

Lujan Grisham, a Democratic former congresswoman, repeatedly thanked men and women of the oil industry for business growth that is underwriting major state spending initiatives on public education, health care and infrastructure projects — and that might bankroll her proposal for tuition-free college for in-state students.

“I could spend well longer than 30 minutes telling you about the benefits of what’s going on in the state of New Mexico because of what’s going on in the oil and gas industry — opportunities that we haven’t seen, ever,” she said.

The governor’s speech at an annual meeting of the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association attracted a noticeably larger crowd than an appearance 30 minutes later by U.S. Interior Secretary David Bernhardt, who warned that Green New Deal policies espoused by some Democrats pose a threat to the oil industry’s livelihood.

Lujan Grisham said she is counting on the oil industry itself to design new state regulations for methane emissions in cooperation with her first-year administration. New Mexico is developing the new rules to discourage waste and leaks of the potent climatewarming gas as the Trump administration attempts to roll back methane controls.

“I have no doubt that New Mexico is going to get methane regulating right,” Lujan Grisham said. “Why? Because you’re at the table, because I’m using your innovation and technology.”

She assured the crowd that her Cabinet secretaries for oilfield and environmental regulation will collaborate with the energy sector.

“They will not be at cross purposes, they are very clear that they work for you,” Lujan Grisham said. “And if that is not occurring, I need to know about it.”

State economists say New Mexico government is increasingly reliant on surging income from the oil and natural gas sectors, amid record-setting petroleum production in the Permian Basin that overlaps the southeast of the state and West Texas.

UNPRECEDENTED BLACKOUTS AND $6 GASOLINE: CALIFORNIA’S ENERGY CRISIS

Millions of Californians may have just suffered an unprecedented, induced blackout by the state’s largest (and bankrupt) utility, PG&E, just so it isn’t blamed for starting even more fires causing it to go even more bankrupt... but at least the price of gas is soaring.

According to Fox5NY, citing figures from AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in Los Angeles County was $4.25 on Wednesday, 4.5 cents higher than one week ago, 57.6 cents more than one month ago and 37.1 cents greater than one year ago. It has also risen 86.4 cents since the start of the year. What is more troubling is that as California gas prices reached the highest level in the state since 2015, some Los Angeles area gas stations are charging more than $5 a gallon.

The gas price spike started last month after Saudi Arabia oil production facilities were attacked, and accelerated after three Los Angeles-area refineries slowed or halted production due to maintenance issues and no imported gasoline was available to make up for the shortfall, according to Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.

The shortage was made worse after local refineries cut back production of summer-blend gasoline in anticipation of switching to selling the winter blend beginning Nov. 1.

But wait, there’s more: America’s most “environmentally conscious” state got a harsh lesson in electrical engineering when many of the tens of thousands of people hit by this week’s blackout learned the hard way that solar installations don’t keep the lights on during a power outage.

That, as Bloomberg reports, is “because most panels are designed to supply power to the grid, not directly to houses.

During the heat of the day, solar systems generate more juice than a home can handle. However, they don’t produce power at all at night. So systems are tied into the grid, and the vast majority aren’t working this week as PG&E cut power to much of Northern California to prevent wildfires.”

Of course, the only way for most solar panels to work during a blackout is pairing them with batteries, however as Tesla has found out the hard way, that market is just starting to take off and even so it’s having a very difficult time making headway. The largest U.S. rooftop solar company, Sunrun, said hundreds of its customers are making it through the blackouts with batteries.

Alas, the total number of those affected - and without power - is in the hundreds of thousands.

TXOGA CELEBRATES 100 YEARS The Texas Oil & Gas Association’s (TXOGA) Lone Star Energy Forum & Centennial Celebration held recently in Austin showcased the innovation and the

state, national and global leadership of the Texas oil and natural gas industry.

The all-day celebration began with TXOGA’s annual Lone Star Energy Forum, where attendees heard from Texas Governor Greg Abbott, industry leaders Susan Dio, BP America Chairman and President, Steve Green, Chevron North America President, Don Baldridge, DCP Midstream President, Don Templin, Marathon Petroleum Corporation Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, and Millennial Labs CEO Paul Moya. A panel focused on the current political outlook featured Republican Political Strategist Jason Johnson and Democratic Political Analyst Harold Cook, and was moderated by Spectrum New Austin’s Karina Kling.

“The Lone Star State would not be in the position it is today without the tireless efforts of TXOGA and the oil and gas industry,” said Governor Abbott. “This industry has fueled Texas’ economic growth and prosperity by expanding trade, creating more jobs, and fostering innovation. I congratulate TXOGA on its milestone of 100 years and look forward to building on our partnership to create an even brighter future for the Lone Star State.”

The evening program – the Centennial Celebration Gala – featured a fireside chat with President George W. Bush and the presentation of the 2019 Distinguished Service Award to Darren Woods, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Exxon Mobil Corporation, and Jeffery Hildebrand, Founder and Executive Chairman of Hilcorp Energy Company.

The celebration concluded with the unveiling of the newlyrenovated and expanded “Texas Oil and Gas” exhibit at the Bullock Texas State History Museum. Visitors to the exhibit are invited to learn about cutting-edge innovation, economic impact, and the environmental progress of the industry over the past 100 years. The exhibit was made possible with the support of Texas oil and natural gas companies.

“Innovation, perseverance and grit are the unmistakable hallmarks of being a Texan, and no one better personifies these timeless traits than the early oil wildcatters here in Texas who set out to change the world more than 100 years ago,” said Todd Staples, President of TXOGA. “Today, their legacy lives on as the endeavors of a new generation of explorers in the Texas oil and natural gas industry have catapulted the United States to become the world’s undisputed energy leader. We can be proud that the technology and know-how that reshaped the world’s energy landscape started right here in Lone Star State.”

dates who win at least 50% of the vote plus one avoid having to go to a runoff.

Gov. Edwards, as the only viable Democrat in the governor’s race, easily won the highest percentage of votes in the Oct 12 primary, but he failed to reach the 50% level, and faced Baton Rouge businessman Eddie Rispone in the runoff.

For the state’s oil and natural gas industry, the outcome of this election was disappointing. Governor Edwards, himself a former trial lawyer, has assumed an overtly-confrontational posture related to the industry, and has used state resources in support of a raft of class-action lawsuits whose goal is to essentially hold the industry wholly responsible for the state’s long-standing coastal erosion and land subsidence problems.

To date, that strategy of pursuing public policy via litigation has been a miserable failure for Gov. Edwards and the State, producing $0 in settlements or awards. The Governor’s aggressive posture towards the industry has also had the very predictable outcome of dampening the enthusiasm among producers, pipeline companies and refiners for doing business in the state,

exacerbating the state’s moribund overall economic climate.

Gifford Briggs, President of the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association (LOGA) said, “Our members believe that having new leadership in the Governor’s Mansion is vital to the future of our state’s economy and Louisiana’s energy industry. We just can’t afford another four years of this economic mismanagement.”

The state’s other major industry association, the Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association (LMOGA), also endorsed the Rispone candidacy through its political action committee. Tyler Gray, Chairman of Mid-Continent PAC, said, “This endorsement is because Mr. Rispone is committed to all policy changes that will improve the business climate for oil and gas in Louisiana, making it more competitive with our neighboring states.”

Saudi attacks prove importance of Oklahoma production

While attacks on Saudi oil facilities spurred a surge in global crude prices, the effects of the attacks were minimal because the United States is less dependent than ever on oil imports from the Middle East. This newly achieved energy independence is due in large part Chad Warmington to the remarkable success of Oklahoma’s oil and natural gas industry and our key role in making the United States the world’s largest energy producer.

Advanced technologies like hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling

have allowed our state’s industry to produce more resources than ever before, helping to make the U.S. a net energy exporter. In 2018, our country produced 18% of the world’s oil, compared with Saudi Arabia’s 12%, Russia’s 11% and Canada’s 5%, and we imported an alltime low of 328.7 million barrels of oil from Saudi Arabia, according to the federal Energy Information Administration.

These advancements in technology and the strength of Oklahoma’s oil and natural gas industry help ensure that Americans have an affordable and stable supply of the energy we need to power our daily lives. And yet, there are those on the national political scene who would reverse the progress we have made with dangerous proposals such as outlawing the use of hydraulic fractur-

ing, the technology that has enabled us to free ourselves from dependency on foreign oil, and that is used in virtually every new well in the U.S. Such shortsighted positions may play well to a very narrow political base, but would result in a huge setback in energy security, while causing energy prices to skyrocket and hurting our poorest and most vulnerable citizens the most.

The hardworking men and women of Oklahoma’s oil and natural gas industry are proud of the key role we are playing in advancing America’s energy independence, and we implore our political leaders not to undermine the historic progress we have made.

Oklahoma natural gas is leading the fight against greenhouse gas emissions

Oklahoma’s oil and natural gas industry is dedicated to reducing air emissions, while continuing to increase oil and natural gas production. In the United States, greenhouse gas emissions have fallen to their lowest levels since Jon Bargas 1992, and between 2011 and 2017 methane emissions fell 24 percent, while oil production rose 65 percent and natural gas rose production 19 percent, according to the EPA and EIA. In fact, the amount of recoverable natural gas in the United States, much of it right here in Oklahoma, has reached its highest-ever recorded level, according to a recent announcement by the Potential Gas Committee. The PGC’s biennial assessment of recoverable natural gas measured a 20 percent increase over the 2016 assessment, and the largest two-year increase in the report’s history. This record high is attributable to unprecedented technological advances in our industry that have helped efficiently extract and produce more resources in a cleaner manner.

Meanwhile, some presidential candidates are floating the idea of rolling back the environmental progress we have made by proposing a ban on hydraulic fracturing. Such mis-

guided action would be detrimental not only to Oklahoma’s economy, but also to that of the U.S. Currently, there is no energy source that could replace the loss of cheap, abundant oil and natural gas. Therefore, energy prices would skyrocket, hurting our poorest and most vulnerable citizens the most.

Fatih Birol of the Paris-based International Energy Agency recently explained a few of the negatives of a fracking ban on the U.S. and Europe, saying in part: “This would have major implications on the market for the U.S. economy, for jobs growth and everything,

and not good news for energy security, because for example U.S. natural gas provides a lot of security to the markets. Stopping oil and gas production is something that I wouldn’t advise to the U.S. government or another government.”

Outlawing the process through which practically every oil and gas well in the country is completed would endanger energy security and put environmental goals out of reach.

Oklahoma’s oil and natural gas industry is critical to a cleaner energy future, which must have as its foundation clean-burning natural gas.

Oklahoma natural gas fueling the world

Thanks in large part to the unprecedented success of Oklahoma’s natural gas producers, the United States is set to become the world’s largest exporter of LNG within five years, according to a recent International Energy Agency report. Record-breaking U.S. shale production enabled the export of nearly 1.6 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in 2013. By 2018, that number had more than doubled, with LNG representing nearly one-third of total U.S. natural gas exports.

Historically, natural gas from Oklahoma was transported north to population centers in the Midwest and Northeast. The prolific gas

fields in the Pennsylvania and Ohio areas, however, have created a glut of natural gas in that region. At the same time, growing liquefied natural gas exports have created new demand for natural gas along the Gulf Coast, an increasingly popular market for Oklahoma producers.

The first shipment of U.S. LNG was exported in February 2016, and it has grown by leaps and bounds since with no signs of slowing down. This is good news for Oklahoma and the American economy, as well as for developing nations around the world. As U.S. Undersecretary of Energy Mark W. Menezes recently explained: “more exports of U.S. LNG to the world means more U.S. jobs and

Alliance to legislators: We are the voice of the industry

The Petroleum Alliance held Legislative Lunch & Learns in Tulsa and Oklahoma City in October. The goal of the events was to provide legislators with a state of the oil and natural gas industry with representatives from E&P, midstream, refining and service companies. About 40 members of

the legislature took part in these events.

Speakers also covered topics that the Alliance will be discussing during the 2020 legislative session such as production revenue standards act reform, county assessment procedures reform, and produced water ownership to encourage more recycling and reuse of produced water.

The discussions were lead by the Alliance’s VP of Government and Legal Affairs Zack Lee. Speakers included Dusty Darr, Director of Government Relations at OneOK, Kevin Lassahn, Vice President and General Manager of the Valero Ardmore Refinery and Tommie Herell,

VP Business Development with Spitfire Energy, and Chairman of the Petroleum Alliance and Founder and Managing Partner of Reign Capital Holdings David Le Norman.

Featured speaker, Doug Suttles, President and CEO of Encana Oil & Gas, inspires Oklahomans at Wildcatters Luncheon An innovative leader in oil and natural gas motivated hundreds of Oklahomans at the Alliance Wildcatters Luncheon.

“We’re really, really glad to be here in Oklahoma,” said Doug Suttles, President and CEO of Encana.

“It’s a great place to do business. It’s pro-business, it supports the industry, it’s got great people, it’s got a great service sector.”

Suttles shared some words of wisdom about how Encana became one of the largest production companies.

“We’re the world’s second biggest unconventional producer, it’s what we do, it’s where our expertise is and it’s

what we like to do,” said Suttles. “We think that driving innovation is how you actually create value over time.”

Suttles said more needs to be done to educate the public about the benefits of oil and natural gas. For example, showing how we provide the energy everyone needs to heat our homes, fuel our cars and bring food and goods to the market, so we should be unapologetic.

“People should be proud of what they do in this business that’s made the world what it is today,” said Suttles.

“People are worried about climate and we’ve got to help figure out how to help in that conversation, but it

doesn’t start with an apology because we’ve made the world work.”

As the industry continues to use cutting edge technology to increase efficiencies while reducing environmental impact, Suttles wants to remind officials of the industry’s vital role in our state’s economy.

“We’ve got to engage with folks on that conversation so that the policymakers and the politicians make smart decisions,” said Suttles.

The Oklahoma Energy Index held steady in September with a modest 0.5% gain offsetting months of contraction. The September reading stalls momentarily the ongoing contraction in the state’s most economically important sector. Industry activity remains down 10.1% from a year ago with downside risks lingering into 2020.

Agee Economic Research and Policy Institute, noted the importance of the state’s rig count in predicting Oklahoma’s economic future. “Historically, aggressive changes in rig activity portend looming economic and fiscal swings for the state,” Evans said. Figure 1 illus-

trates the historic correlation between the 12-month change in rig counts and the year-over-year growth rate in statewide employment.

Oil and natural gas spot prices posted small gains in September accompanied by steady employment levels in the both the primary and support sectors. The strongest measure of concern remains the declining rig activity in the state, with the September weekly active rig count at 71, down from an August average of 84.

Declining rig count causes concern around state economy

Many Oklahomas are out of work and the economy is hurting.

“I have been worried for some time now,” said Russell Evans, Associate Professor of Economics, Executive Director, Steven C. Agee Economic Research & Policy Institute at Oklahoma City University.

The oil and natural gas industry, the largest source of the state’s tax revenue is also hurting.

“It’s so strongly correlated with the state’s economy,” said Evans. “The state’s economy is in the exact same window. We’re somewhere less than a full health economy and somewhere more than being in recession.”

Evans says he’s concerned due to the continuous decline in drilling rigs across Oklahoma.

“I do think as you follow rig activity and you follow energy industry activity, you’re really getting a leading indicator of future state economic conditions,” said Evans.

Today, there are 51 active rigs, compared to the 141 a year ago, which is something none of Oklahoma’s peer-energy producing states have seen this year.

Bottom line, drilling rigs are the barometer for Oklahoma’s overall economy.

When rigs are up and running, there’s more jobs and workers, meaning more Oklahoman’s are putting dollars back into the economy.

“Anytime you see rig activity the way it is, you know it’s affecting the regions that are not having the drilling taking place,” said Evans. “It’s affecting those diners, those hotels.”

The oil and natural gas industry hopes this grabs the attention of lawmakers before the ripple effect from drilling activity takes place.

“I’ve been pleasantly surprised that the state has managed to bounce along somewhere above recession for as long as we have,” said Evans. “I’m very much worried about downside risk.”

ALLIANCE FALL CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS CHALLENGES, OPPORTUNITIES FOR OKLAHOMA INDUSTRY From a panel of renowned Oklahoma oilmen to 2020 political prognostications and legal analysis of recent landmark cases, the Petroleum Alliance of Oklahoma’s 2019 Fall Conference provided something for everyone interested in the current condition of our state’s oil and natural gas industry.

Nestled among the idyllic fall colors surrounding Big Cedar Lodge in the Ozark Mountains, the nearly 250 Fall Conference attendees were treated to two days of general sessions designed to provide a realistic snapshot of where our industry is and where experts think we will be in the coming year.

The opening day keynote brunch was anchored by a discussion among four of the state’s industry leaders. Alliance Chairman and Founder and Managing Partner of Reign Capital Holdings David Le Norman moderated

the panel that also included Kim Hatfield of Crawley Petroleum, Earl Reynolds of Chaparral Energy, and Tim Haddican of Red Bluff Resources.

There’s certainly no denying that Oklahoma’s oil and natural gas industry is facing significant challenges—everyone in attendance was acutely aware that our state has lost 87 rigs since this time last year, which is more than any other producing state. Among the challenges, however, these leaders still see opportunities lurking. “I’ve had more success during the difficult times than I’ve had during the boom times,” said Hatfield. “In times like these we have to work together, find solutions, and make sure that we keep the ecosystem of the industry healthy.”

This optimistic sentiment was echoed by the other panelists. “We are going to see

some sort of price rebound. I think you are going to see companies become much more resilient,” said Haddican.

Reynolds expounded on this theme, saying “There is a common vision of what we are trying to accomplish in this industry—to bring low cost fuel to the world. We’ve been able to do more with less, and this time we have to be smarter, we need to be quick learners—learn from our mistakes and not repeat them.”

Reynolds cautioned, however, that our ability to operate is dependent on the good will of the local communities where we work.

“We have to show the community that we are doing the right thing every day. Don’t ignore the communities in which you work. Get out there and interact with them,” he advised.

Chairman Le Norman agreed and

emphasized the need to continue to attract and retain young people to the industry.

“We have the best people on the planet in this industry,” Le Norman said. “If I were a young person, I’d be super excited about the chance to work in oil and gas, especially with the use of artificial intelligence in improving operations. We need to encourage them. We can’t lose our smart people to other industries.”

One thing was evident through the conference: amid the ups and downs of global economic conditions beyond our control and adverse government policies that have exacerbated the dramatic drop in the number of rigs drilling in the state, the Oklahomans who work in the oilfield remain focused on responsibly providing the energy to power our world.

First Annual Angler’s Classic a hit among Fall Conference attendees

Power team takes first prize at Alliance Harvest Championship Tournament The famed Big Cedar Shooting Academy was host to 40 shooters at the annual Alliance Harvest Championship Sporting Clays tournament during this year’s Fall Conference. The “power team” of

Gale force winds did not deter participation in the Alliance’s first annual Angler’s Classic on Table Rock Lake during the Petroleum Alliance of Oklahoma’s Fall Conference. Although the weather was less than ideal for fishing, the professional guides from Big Cedar Lodge were still able to put participants on to some of the small and largemouth bass for which the lake is famous. October can be a tough month for finding the really big fish, but the 35 Alliance anglers made this event a success and future Fall Conference participants can look forward to the Anglers Classic for years to come. Awards were given for three categories—largest fish, smallest fish (that’s still above the legal limit), and highest overall weight for total catch. Congratulations to the first place team of Darrell Noblitt and Mona Ables and to Mark Ebel for the largest fish category.

Ayers to take partners program to new heights The Petroleum Alliance of Oklahoma is pleased to welcome Marcy Ayers as a new partners program consultant. Ayers was previously the Director of Sustaining Oklahoma’s Energy Resources (SOER) and oversaw the daily operations and activities of the SOER program, including the OK Oil and Gas Expo, Marcy Ayers the OK Oil and Gas Tech Forum, and industry related trainings and workshops across the state.

She will now focus her efforts on managing the partners program, serving as the liaison between the partners and the Alliance, and will work to advance and promote the program to the Alliance membership.

Oilfield Prayer Breakfast a chance to focus on what’s important

In October, several hardworking Oklahomans from the oil and natural gas industry gathered in Bricktown to celebrate the blessings that our industry provides, and ask for protection for those who risk life and limb every day to ensure that Oklahoma and our nation have the energy we need to maintain our way of life.

Gov. Kevin Stitt formally recognized the importance of this day and of our industry to the state by declaring “Oklahoma Oilfield Prayer Day,” and ours is certainly an industry that needs prayer.

Amid the ups and downs of global economic conditions beyond our control, the instability that has led to lower employment, and adverse government policies that have exacerbated the dramatic drop in the number of rigs drilling in the state, the Oklahomans who work in the oil field remain focused on safely and responsibly ensuring that we all have the energy necessary to power our world.

Sadly, these men and women are often derided by

These anti-industry activists simultaneously call for an end to our industry while consuming copious amounts of the petroleum products against which they rail.

But amid the derision (and in some cases the calls to outright ban what we do), the men and women of the oil patch keep their heads down, focused on delivering a product that provides a quality of life unprecedented in human history.

Those of us who are proud to work in and represent Oklahoma’s oil and natural gas industry commend the volunteers with the Oklahoma City Oilfield Christian Fellowship and Gov. Stitt for recognizing the importance of designating at least this one day a year to set aside our differences and focus on what really matters.

Oklahoma oil and natural gas companies boost new STEM program in OKC public schools

The Oklahoma oil and natural gas industry is helping students ignite a passion for STEM by providing $450,000 for new labs.

“We’re just grateful,” said Sean McDaniel, Superintendent of Oklahoma City Public Schools. “We have a grateful heart collectively as a school district.”

Every Oklahoma City Elementary school, 33 in total, will have brand new STEM or science, technology, engineering and mathematics centers thanks to a partnership between the Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools and the Cal Ripken Senior Foundation.

The centers give kids the opportunity to learn through hands-on activities and develop basic problem-solving skills.

“It’s important to see what grabs these kids,” said Cal Ripken Jr. “All of those things tra nslate to good skills

that can apply to the rest of your life.”

Cal Ripken Junior visited with a few students in Oklahoma City and shared why STEM education is important to him and the Foundation.

“To me it’s seeing their eyes open a little bit, seeing how it works, how does this go together and maybe it’s just to expose them to something that says, this is how it works, maybe there’s a better way to do it,” said Ripken.

Ten of the STEM Centers were funded by the Oklahoma oil and natural gas industry through the OERB at an investment of $300,000. That’s the largest sponsorship in the history of the OERB. Ascent Resources, Chesapeake Energy, Devon Energy, Kimray and Le Norman Properties sponsored additional centers.

David Le Norman, the Vice Chairman for the OERB says this is about investing in Oklahoma’s future leaders.

“You don’t become energy independent as a nation without embracing technology. We need more STEM across the board.”

The Cal Ripken Senior Foundation provides all of the curriculum, tools and equipment for the STEM centers, as well as training for the teachers.

“It really is a skill or an understanding in the science and math that they can apply as they get older, so we feel really good that we’re giving them some tools and skills,” said Ripken.

The OERB will also be providing oil and natural gas-specific curricula and resources for the STEM Centers. Many hoping the skills the students learn will be put to use in their home state.

“We would like to keep our resources in our state,” said Le Norman.

“They have the skills to go to work in Oklahoma, so we are really excited about that as well,” said A student at Eugene Field Elementary works on a coding activity McDaniel.

Oil & Gas Expo attracts thousands to Oklahoma City event

A slowing oil and gas industry didn’t dampen spirits on Thursday at the Oklahoma Oil & Gas Expo in Oklahoma City.

The event, held at the Bennett Event Center at the OKC Fairgrounds, featured about 280 exhibitors and had about 3,500 people preregistered to attend the annual affair.

Mindy Stitt, executive director of the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board and Sustaining Oklahoma’s Energy Resources, said both the numbers of expected exhibitors and attendees this year were slightly less than last year’s event.

However, Stitt said participants remain upbeat, despite recent contractions made by both large and small oil and gas operators that are contending with soft commodity prices and economic uncertainties.

“Even with the downturn, they are glad to be here, meeting all their friends and making new ones,” Stitt said. “It is a good day.”

The event, in its 23rd year, gives industry operators and companies that provide them with equipment and services an opportunity to network.

For the exhibiting companies, the event provides a chance to reconnect with past or current customers and find new ones.

Operators, meanwhile, have opportunities to both network with their peers and to check out new equipment, services and technologies that can help them recover oil and gas from their wells.

Exhibitors this year ranged from companies that provide oil and gas operators with water services to companies that sell valves and others that

offer fleet tracking services.

Insurers, pump companies, well tool vendors, oil haulers, safety and traffic control companies, technology-services firms and electrical services companies also were among exhibitors at the event.

“And with the downturn, it is a great time to take advantage of opportunities to meet people with other companies if you are looking for another job,” Stitt said.

The expo’s legacy exhibitor for 2019 was Chappell Supply & Equipment, a company that provides industrial cleaning equipment and services to various types of industries, including oil and gas.

Aaron Miller, Chappell’s wastewater sales manager, said Thursday his company helps the oil and gas industry in Oklahoma, 15 other states and in Canada handle water issues.

“It all starts with a water test,” Miller said. “From there, we engineer a treatment solution for it.

“We make dirty water clean.”

Chappell got its start as Chappell Oil Field Supply.

“We are a local company, and oil and gas is one of Oklahoma’s main exports, so we like helping contribute to our local businesses whether it is supplying them equipment or helping them find a water treatment solution,” Miller said.

“A lot of people here already are customers of ours, but we also meet some new customers, as well. But most of our new customers come from referrals, because we provide service before, during and after a sale.”

Sustaining Oklahoma’s Energy Resources, an organization previously called the Marginal Well Commission, is part of the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board organization.

Both are supported by voluntary levies taken from oil and gas revenue paid to well and royalty owners.

In 2018, only about 1% of those owners requested refunds of their payments, Stitt said.

“Our legacy well operators work hard to keep their wells running — they are resilient,” Stitt said, “and they also work hard on this show.

“They help us set up and tear down. They are just a great group of people from a great industry.”

IN MEMORIAM

In memoriam: Curtis Goddard

Longtime OIPA member passes at 71 Curtis Gene Goddard, a lifetime Cushing resident and active and beloved OIPA/Alliance member for over 14 years passed away on October 28th.

Curtis was was a very loyal and avid supporter of our organization and a familiar and smiling face at our events, especially the Annual Meeting.

Curtis was born December 25, 1947 to Clara Jane (Broadston) Goddard and Arvil Curtis Goddard in Drumright, Oklahoma. He received his early education at Lincoln Elementary in Cushing and graduated from Cushing High School in 1966.

After high school he worked out of state x-raying pipelines later attending Central State College in Edmond, Oklahoma. On January 11, 1969 he was united in marriage to Judy Adsit. They made their home in Cushing where they raised their two sons, Billy Scott Goddard and Curtis Bradley Goddard.

Curtis worked for Evans of Cushing, Oklahoma Oilwell Cementing, Oilwell Fracturing, and finally Basic Energy, from which he retired in 2015.

He spent his retirement days watching grandkids and could often be found watching Dillon play baseball; Dalton play golf; Colin swim; and Chelsea play softball.

He loved to keep a beautiful yard and volunteered with Northeast Oklahoma Chapter of the API. He made friends far and wide and loved music, dancing, and was a big OU Sooner fan. He will always be remembered as a wonderful Husband, Father, and Papa.

Curtis is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judy Goddard of the home; two sons, Scott Goddard and wife Jacy of El Reno, Brad Goddard

and wife Corbi of Bartlesville; five grandchildren, Jade and husband Andrew Sneed, Dillon, Dalton, Colin, and Chelsea Goddard; two great grandchildren, Indie and Jett; one sibling Karen Calkins of Cushing, as well as numerous other friends and family.

He will be missed by all.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a cause very near to Curtis’ heart, API Scholarship Fund; NEO Chapter API, PO Box 1625 Cushing, OK 74023.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing.
