here is momentum in the Oklahoma City region. We are a city on the rise yet have retained the spirit of a small town, a place where neighbors cheer each other on and lend a hand when needed. Since 1969, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation has been here to share in the celebrations and contribute to the future of our communities. We do this by partnering with individuals, families and organizations to extend what is working well and rise together to meet unmet needs. Thank you for showing up for our communities and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Thank you for trusting us as your partner and making everything we do possible. Together, we invest boldly in our communities every day. ”

THE OF beauty

As a squeal floats through the air, the staff at Citizens Caring for Children (CCC) smile to themselves, knowing another child living in foster care has found the perfect shoes or clothes in their Resource Center. It’s days like these, when they hear the children’s joy or witness the burden being lifted off a foster parent’s shoulders, that make all the effort worth it.

It’s allowed us to create an environment that really supports the families... so the kids can thrive.”

Since the doors to the Resource Center opened in 1984, CCC has worked to provide clothing, shoes and hygiene products to children living in foster care while seeking to understand the challenges these families face. But the organization’s greatest insights do not come from research or conferences, rather from simple conversations with the children and parents it serves. It was the insight into this

lived experience that led CCC to establish its Foster Parent Advisory Council, which has become a key to helping CCC understand what it’s doing right, what it can do better and where there are opportunities.

“Working with these families has been eye-opening for all of us,” said Lynne Roller, CCC executive director. “It’s allowed us to create an environment that really supports the families and helps that seed of hope and confidence grow so the kids can thrive.”

Guided by this feedback, CCC asked themselves two questions: how can we meet people where they are, and how do we make that happen? Neither question had a clear-cut answer, but CCC was not in it alone. For more than three decades, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation has been a steadfast partner for CCC, providing endowment support, community grants, and even managing a scholarship for children in foster care that became the basis for the Community Foundation’s Oklahoma Youth With Promise Scholarship.

CCC continues to fine-tune and expand its services by working with donors, foster parents and partners like the Community Foundation. Inspired by feedback from a foster parent traveling back and forth from Weatherford, CCC launched a mobile unit, allowing the Resource Center to reach hundreds of new children each year in Clinton, Durant, Enid and Lawton. It’s

the small changes where they feel the seed of hope growing every day – things like providing products for different hair and skin types, investing in better shoes and more on-trend clothing and serving youth who have recently aged out of foster care.

“The hygiene stuff made a bigger difference than I ever expected,” a foster parent said. “One of my girls who had always had to share or go without was overjoyed when she got her own set of shampoo, deodorant and lotion. She sat on her bed that night, carefully organizing everything and smelling

each bottle. ‘This smells like me,’ she whispered, holding on to that little piece of normalcy so many take for granted.”

Though it may seem small, CCC is striving to make comfort and normalcy a reality. Stability and belonging can begin to change the lives of children and is what helps CCC accomplish its mission of providing hope and creating healthy futures. Their investments today will change lives and families for generations to come.

COMMITTING TO IMPACT lasting

The year is 2009. Sharon Douthitt sits stuffing envelopes with Gerry Hendon for Friends of Libraries in Oklahoma (FOLIO) as they launch the organization’s first-ever endowment campaign. Hours of debate on the best way to fund the

organization have led to this point. Fundraising has always been a challenge due to their statewide membership, but their desire to better support the libraries is strong, and with the help of a matching grant from the Kirkpatrick Family Fund, there’s real potential to make a meaningful impact.

“It was a little daunting to start, but it is so rewarding

Year in and year out, the FOLIO board has applied for matching grants, stuffed envelopes and talked to members about their endowment, and slowly, their fund began to grow. Some years, they added a little, some years they’d have a larger donation, but as the idea caught on, more people understood the vital ongoing funding an endowment offers, and they have been able to award more grants and scholarships to libraries throughout Oklahoma.

In 2025, Helmerich Library won FOLIO’s Best Friends Award for its outstanding programming and activities like Storytime in the Park.

Helmerich Library’s Adventure Club: Legend of Zelda engaged youth ages 8-14.

FOLIO’s 2024 library support staff scholarship recipients.

A decade later, a similar conversation was underway at Rotary Club 29 Foundation. For more than a century, Club 29 has lived up to Rotary’s motto, “service above self,” giving generously of their time, talents, gifts and service, but they wanted to do more.

They brought together a group of members who are subject-matter experts in the nonprofit sector with current and former club leadership to ask, “What can we do to make a greater impact?” As the conversation circled and ideas ebbed and flowed, they all led back to one central concept: high-impact dollars focused on overcoming the root causes of issues in our community. But they knew moving the needle would take time, and true impact would take multi-year projects, so they needed a reliable funding source. They needed to grow their endowment.

“A significant endowment is a powerful engine of change for good in our community,” Megan Law,

Growing our endowment like this will open a new chapter for Club 29 and secure our ability to continue to do good.”
MEGAN LAW
ROTARY CLUB 29 FOUNDATION

Rotary Club 29 Foundation executive director, said. “Growing our endowment like this will open a new chapter for Club 29 and secure our ability to continue to do good.”

Spearheaded by former Rotary President and current OCCF Trustee Chuck Wiggin and former Governor David Walters, in 2021, Rotary Club 29 Foundation launched its Impact Endowment Campaign to double the organization’s assets. Bolstered by a significant Kirkpatrick Family Fund matching grant this year, the club is well on its way to meeting its $3 million goal.

As Club 29 stands at the threshold of ensuring longterm change, FOLIO is seeing the results of its hard work, steadily growing both the number and impact of the scholarships and awards it grants each year.

“Investing in your endowment isn’t always easy,” Sharon said. “Some years will be up and some will be down. You really have to stay with it, but if you have members who are committed, then it will continue to grow, and the benefit will be well worth the effort.”

with similar issues. With a dream in his heart and two years of sobriety under his belt, Lance and his wife, Allyson, started Hope is Alive in 2013.

Dedicated to transforming lives impacted by addiction through a holistic approach, Lance and Allyson developed a unique

to include 26 sober living homes across 12 cities in six states, impacting thousands of lives.

This transformative change and its lasting impact on individuals suffering from addiction is what caught the attention of Steve and Linda Slawson and has made them powerful

excellent investment for Steve and Linda.

“We’ve never had alcohol or drug addictions, but we give to Hope is Alive because we firmly believe these donations will reach a part of a hurting community that needs compassion, support and a helping hand,” Linda said.

Steve and Linda have long known that they were uniquely blessed and have generously given back to their community with their time, talents and resources. In 2023, the couple established a donoradvised fund at OCCF as a way to extend their legacy and engage their children in giving. But building a legacy of family giving isn’t something they just talk about; they began sharing their goals of giving back to the community with their children when they were very young.

“I’m lucky that I saw my parents giving their time and money and resources to various causes throughout my whole life. They were always serving in some way, so I know how to do it because it was modeled for me,” said Katie Slawson.

As community leaders for decades, Steve and Linda have invested in dozens of nonprofits, but their leadership doesn’t end with a check or board

service. If they believe in a cause, they share about it everywhere they go, encouraging others to become involved so they can make a difference together.

When Hope is Alive had the opportunity to renovate a 75-acre property east of Oklahoma City to create The Healing Center, a new residential recovery center, Steve and Linda were immediately on board.

“Hope is Alive’s vision for this healing project and this piece of property is really outstanding, and we want to continue to be a part of it,” Steve said.

The Healing Center was officially announced in 2024, and by this time next year, they expect to begin serving men and women in recovery as well as families at their retreat center, expanding on the more than 250 individuals they’ve helped find freedom from addiction.

The Slawson Family tours The Healing Center.
