Explore OEC’s electric rate options and you could save

At OEC, we are always committed to ensuring our members get the best value for their hard-earned dollars. That’s why we offer many ways to save on your energy bills. One step you can take today — and at no cost to you! — is to explore our electric rates and use our tools to see if you’re on the most economical rate for your specific electricity use.

“Almost 10 years ago, OEC’s board of trustees introduced a second rate for residential members, giving them an option if they were not satisfied with the rate they had been on previously,” said Ashley Evans, residential rate analyst. “Now, our residential members may choose between three different electric rates, and they each have pros and cons depending on usage patterns and convenience.”

While the rate plan you are currently on — Standard Residential, Time-of-Use or Electric Vehicle — can be beneficial, it’s important to periodically review your usage patterns to make sure you’re getting the most bang for your buck. Before exploring the rate options, the following steps might be helpful:

  • Find your current electric rate: Grab the latest copy of your bill (can be found on the MyOEC mobile app or online portal) and look for “Rate” field.

  • Log in to your account at okcoop.org or the MyOEC mobile app and navigate to the usage data.

Now, let’s take a closer look at each rate.

Standard Residential Rate

This rate is perfect for members who like simplicity and convenience and who use an average of 1,600 or more kWhs per month. This rate offers:

  • Simplicity and convenience: The same kWh charges year-round.

  • Freedom: Members do not need to program appliances or modify electricity use.

  • Savings: For members who use an average of 1,600 or more kWhs per month.

  • $1.50 daily service availability charge

Electric Vehicle Rate

This rate is perfect for electric vehicle (EV) owners or anyone willing or able to divert energy consumption to evening and overnight hours. It offers:

  • Energy Savers: Members with electric vehicles and those willing to modify their behavior to maximize savings.

  • Usage Shifting: Those able to shift large appliance use to the hours of 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. either manually or with tools like programmable thermostats.

  • $1.50 daily service availability charge

Time-of-Use-Rate

This rate is our most complex and is perfect for energy savers who are willing to modify behavior to maximize savings. It offers:

  • Energy Savers: And those willing to modify their behavior to maximize savings.

  • Peak Hours: This is a perfect rate for those who are able to shift energy use away from summertime weekday peak hours. On-peak hours are between 3 and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday between June 1 and August 31, excluding July 4.

  • Usage Shifting: Those able to shift large appliance use to off-peak hours either manually or with tools like programmable thermostats.

  • $1 daily service availability charge

All rates incur a daily service availability charge, which pays for some of OEC’s fixed costs to safely deliver electricity to homes and businesses. It includes costs associated with distribution and generation capacity, line maintenance, system improvements, and costs for billing, member services and administration. To learn more about the service availability charge, read CEO Patrick Grace’s From the Top column in this month’s issue or visit OEC’s YouTube channel to watch a more detailed explanation.
