As we move through spring and into early summer, the golf course continues to respond well to warmer temperatures and increased sunlight. Our initial fertilizer application has further enhanced turf health, resulting in noticeable improvements to overall course conditions. This is a critical time of year for establishing strong, healthy turf that will carry us through the summer months.

We are currently in the peak of the “spring surge,” with turf growing vigorously throughout the course. Density and color continue to improve, and winter damage is steadily recovering—most notably on the 10th green, which experienced significant stress during the colder months. With this rapid growth, mowing frequency has increased to maintain consistent green speeds and high-quality playing surfaces across our greens, tees, and fairways.
Aeration of the tees, greens, and fairways has been completed, and approximately 65 tons of tan bunker sand have been added to several bunkers throughout the course. This work has significantly improved bunker playability, particularly in the greenside bunkers on holes 1, 2, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 15.
Our next project includes verti-cutting the greens to reduce seed head populations. Annual bluegrass is prone to producing seed heads during the summer months, which can affect surface smoothness. To help manage this, growth regulators were applied twice in March and twice in April. In May, verti-cutting will mechanically thin the turf, remove seed heads, and improve both green speed and smoothness. We will also begin treating broadleaf weeds throughout the course’s fairways, tees, and roughs.
With rapidly warming weather patterns, irrigation schedules are being closely monitored and adjusted daily. While spring rainfall helps reduce watering needs, we remain proactive in responding to drier conditions to maintain optimal soil moisture levels.
Our goal is to provide firm, consistent, and enjoyable playing conditions throughout the season. If you have any questions about our spring maintenance program, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you for your continued support—we look forward to a great season ahead!

Here we are again… embroiled in the magnificence of another summer in the PNW. The trees are budding, flowers are blooming, and the herbs in my backyard (and yours) are exploding to life. Everything seems new again, and at Indian Summer G&CC, that feeling has not escaped us.
This is the time of year when I especially like to introduce new, fun, and tasty additions to what we offer at Embers Bar & Kitchen, Shady Oaks Snack Bar, and on the Indian Summer Refreshment Cart. Be assured that I’ve done my homework and put serious time and thought into the new items we’re now offering to keep things fresh and exciting for our members and guests.

As requested, I’ve brought in more than a couple of new adult beverages to be served from the Refreshment Cart and Snack Bar, including some excellent wines that are perfect for enjoying during your round because they come in conveniently sized 250 mL cans. We’re now carrying two wines from Gulp! Hablo out of Spain: their Rosé and a “chillable red” called Fresco. Both are excellent on their own or made into a spritzer with a splash of club soda. They’re perfect when a cocktail feels like too much and you’re not in the mood for a beer.
On that note, if you’d rather avoid alcohol entirely to keep your game and decision-making sharp, try one of our new non-alcoholic offerings from Athletic Brewing: a Golden Ale or an IPA.
Speaking of beer, we’ve also added two brand-new beers on tap to restaurant’s lineup. Samuel Adams Summer Ale is a light, refreshing, citrus-forward wheat brew that’s perfect for a hot day on the patio. Similarly, the lighterbodied 805 Blonde Ale from Firestone Walker offers a different, lightly hopped approach while remaining easydrinking and summer-friendly.
Also new to the bar and available by the glass is a delightful red blend from Sleight of Hand called Spellbinder. It’s incredibly versatile and pairs beautifully with nearly anything grilled, especially dishes with a touch of acidity.
Lastly, we’ve added a new cider in a 16 oz can from Portland Cider Company called “Kinda Dry.” True to its name, it offers just enough sweetness to be a crowd-pleaser while maintaining a crisp, refreshing finish.
Every now and then, I reflect on topics that can make your experience even better. This time, I’d like to talk about something whose importance isn’t always recognized: restaurant reservations.
My hope is to give our members, guests, and Indian Summer homeowners a little insight into what reservations mean to us at Embers and why making one can benefit everyone involved. Embers isn’t operated like a typical stand-alone restaurant. To provide the level of service our members and guests expect, our team needs to stay informed about everything happening across the property. On any given day, we’re monitoring banquet events, golf tournaments, staffing levels, promotions, product availability, and countless other details that help us achieve our goal of hosting great days.
Reservations make a real difference for us. When we know you’re planning to visit, we’re able to: Have a table selected and a server assigned before you arrive. Anticipate your preferences and communicate special requests to the kitchen. Plan staffing and service flow to ensure a smooth dining experience. Help celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions in a meaningful way. Prepare for busy periods and provide the level of hospitality you deserve.
Reservations also help us make informed staffing decisions. If we know in advance that we’ll be welcoming a larger number of guests, we can have additional team members to ensure service remains seamless. Of course, we understand that not every visit is planned. Part of the joy in dining out is the spontaneity. And truthfully, calling ahead isn’t really about reserving a table, we have plenty of tables. It’s about helping us deliver the best possible experience.
If you know you’re coming in, even a quick call the day of gives us valuable information that helps us prepare for your visit. That little bit of notice allows us to serve you more efficiently, anticipate your needs, and make your experience even more enjoyable. At the end of the day, our goal is simple: to ensure your happiness and provide exceptional service every time you visit.
Thank you for taking the time to read this—and we look forward to seeing you at the restaurant soon.
Cheers!
