‘Santa, I’ve been real good this year!’
By Rose Lane Editor
Santa made a stop at Christopher Lloyd and Erik Salazar’s “Nutcracker Spectacular” Christmas party. Heather Norris fills him in on her wish list, which seemingly is a little shocking to the jolly old elf. The event included appearances by members of the cast of OKC Ballet’s The Nutcracker, as well as a signature cocktail and Nutcracker sugar cookies baked by Lloyd’s mother. OKC Rep announces ‘reboot’ spring season By Rose Lane Editor With a new staff, a new board and a new mission, Oklahoma City Repertory Theater announced the line-up for the theater’s “reboot” spring season. Artistic Director Kelly Kerwin, who joined the theatre group earlier this year after CoFounder and Artistic Director Donald Jordan retired, said OKC Rep is remerging from the pandemic shutdown with a refreshing mix of “adventurous programming.” The spring pro-
gramming includes artists from the U.K., Nigeria, Ireland, New York, and Oklahoma City. This season will feature two limited engagement presentations in partnership with Oklahoma Contemporary as well as an original site-specific piece commissioned by OKC Rep. “Welcome to the new OKC Rep,” Kerwin said. “This spring season, which we are dubbing ‘The Reboot Season,’ features three shows that represent OKC Rep’s new direction: global and local, inventive and accessible, and a bit outside-the-box,” Kerwin said. “I’m thrilled to
kick us off with three works that are cutting edge, multidisciplinary and from contemporary and diverse voices. OKC Rep will present work from the U.S. and abroad, as well as a commissioned project made specifically for Oklahoma City with artists from Ireland, New York and Oklahoma City.” The spring season includes An Evening with an Immigrant, Piano Talesand Of a Mind: Oklahoma City. Like the University of Oklahoma, Casady School might also be switching conferences. Casady School’s Board of Trustees authorized the School to apply to the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) for membership and to negotiate an agreement with the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) to allow Casady to remain an SPC member for purposes of field hockey and boys’ volleyball. “Based on the shared and essential understanding that though we hold deep respect and gratitude for all that the SPC has been to Casady over the past nearly 70 years, the SPC of today no longer meets the majority of the Casady community’s needs,” said Jenee Lister, chairman of Casady’s Board of Trustees. Casady School’s athletic program has a long and storied history with the SPC, as well as periods of competing in the OSSAA. Casady was among the first schools to join the SPC in 1953, only five years after Casady was founded. Today, the SPC is comprised of 17 independent schools in Texas and one, Casady, in Oklahoma. “I am grateful for the many memories we have enjoyed and created while in the SPC and am excited about a future within the OSSAA,” said Head of Casady School Nathan L. Sheldon. “We believe this new conference affiliation will support the majority of our students and will strategically support our Athletic Pillars of Character, Community, Sportsmanship, Development, and Wellness.” The school plans to submit the application to OSSAA by the end of January in time for its February board meeting. Casady has also submitted a proposal to the SPC for field hockey and boys' volleyball. “We don't know the timeline within SPC yet but are hopeful we will know more about these two programs this winter,” Betty Jane Garrett, director of institutional advancement, said. “We do have additional options for field hockey and boys' volleyball. “Casady expects to continue play in the SPC through the 2022-23 academic year and then enter OSSAA play beginning in 2023-24.” Football is following an independent schedule in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic years (no SPC play) and would enter OSSAA district play in 2024-25, she said.
