People for Pedestrian Parks, who are residents of the Hawthorn Village neighborhood, addressed The Village City Council to voice safety concerns of a bike path being added alongside pedestrian paths in the Hawthorn Green area. Residents have been vocal at several council meetings. Mayor Sonny Wilkinson stressed that “no joint bike path/walkway is being planned. If we do decide to install a bike path it will be separate from any pedestrian paths,” he said. Wilkinson said until the council has a final plan it can agree upon it is “premature to assume any part of a semi-finished plan from two years ago is complete.” “The council will reengage with the architect on the plan and will meet with entities directly impacted, Hawthorn HOA being one such party,” he said. In other business: • The city has approved new collective bargaining agreements with the International Association of Fire Fighters and Fraternal Order of Police for this fiscal year. The city will continue to expand training for police officers and monitor the success of doing so. • Several families living in and near the Crossings at The Village neighborhood addressed flooding issues with the Council following a week of torrential rainfall. New Heritage Hall president called a ‘visionary leader’

The Heritage Hall community has officially welcomed Aaron Fetrow as the school’s new president. Fetrow succeeds Guy Bramble, who retired on June 30 after 33 years at the helm. Fetrow comes to Heritage
Hall from Roanoke College (Salem, Va.) where he served as vice president for resource development, vice president for student affairs and dean of students. He holds a doctorate of jurisprudence from the University of Tennessee
NSO presents Good Samaritan Awards The Neighborhood Services Organization (NSO) presented its 2021 Good Samaritan Award honorees last month.
