The Dragonfly Home is the only Oklahoma City-based nonprofit among 20 others from around the state to be named a finalist in the 2022 Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits’ ONE Awards. The ONE Awards were established in 2008 by the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits with guidance from late Chapman Foundation trustee J. Jerry Dickman and Tulsa businessman Joe Moran to draw attention to those nonprofit organizations that employ the tenets of excellence in their operations every day. Since its beginning, the program has awarded cash grants between $5,000 and $10,000 to exceptional Oklahoma Nonprofits. See ONE, Page 5
Oklahoma Contemporary names Davis director The Oklahoma Contemporary Board of Trustees announced that Artistic Director Jeremiah Matthew Davis will step into the newly created role of director, overseeing all departments of the arts center, when Eddie Walker retires this spring. Oklahoma Contemporary Board President Robert Clements said the appointment was made by a unanimous voted of the board. “As artistic director over the past six years, Jeremiah has grown in his role just
as Oklahoma Contemporary has grown,” Clements said. “We knew we would transition to this new organizational structure at some point. “As Eddie departs, Jeremiah is the ideal person to assume the new director role.” Oklahoma Contemporary is also creating the new position of deputy director, Clements said. “That hire will have responsibility for administrative functions and support Jeremiah as he focuses on strategic and big-picture areas for
Oklahoma Contemporary.” Since 2016, Davis has led the plan for the growth of Oklahoma Contemporary’s artistic and educational programs, including the transition to the institution’s new $30 million campus in downtown Oklahoma City. Davis has overseen forward-looking curatorial programming, including Ed Ruscha: OKLA, Chakaia Booker: Shaved Portions, Tatyana Fazlalizadeh: See DAVIS, Page 3

Western Avenue aglow for Valentine’s Day By Rose Lane Editor Christmas may be over but the lights on Western Avenue are back on through Valentine’s Day. The effort is organized by Winter on Western (WOW), a non-profit 501c3 created only a few months ago for the sole purpose of bringing back the magic of the holiday lights to Western Avenue, Edie Roodman, board member said. The sevenmember board of directors is made up of all volunteers. The group came together in the fall of 2021 to raise money to restore the longstanding tradition of wrapping trees in lights.
As a fundraiser to keep the project going, local restaurants in the area — including the Metro and Hutch — have created a signature drink. Roodman said $1 of each sold benefits the lighting project. On each restaurant table is a tent with information about WOW and ways to donate. She said that rallying the community to support this ongoing year-to-year effort is imperative. Funds in the amount of $200,00 are need to underwrite the cost of lights, installation, tear down, storage, insurance, etc. In its first year, more than 60 donors contributed just under $180,000 See LIGHTS, Page 5
