Accounting and Payroll Basic Accounting Certificate

If you’re working to keep the books competently for a small business, or are interested in an entry-level accounting job, this 66-hour hands-on program can provide you with the necessary expertise.

It also provides a good foundation for those who are planning to study computer-based accounting such as Simply Accounting.

This two-module program covers accounting concepts, generally accepted accounting principles, the rules of debit and credit, the accounting cycle, using the general journal to record transactions and posting to the general ledger.

Preparation of financial statements, periodic adjustments, and year-end books are also covered.

In the second module, you’ll learn about specialized journals and the use of subledgers to track customers and vendors.

Additional topics range from inventory concepts and sales taxes to internal cash controls and payroll preparation.

Simply Accounting 2011 Certificate In today’s competitive market, give yourself the opportunity for a better job or help improve the efficiency of your company’s operating margin. Keeping accurate track of the dollars coming in and going out is fundamental to the viability of any enterprise, particularly small businesses where the room for financial error is scant.

Learn about basic tax saving and preparation tips from a chartered accountant who focuses on small and home-based businesses. This 160-hour certificate program introduces students to the tools and applications of AutoCAD software.

Computers & Technology Beginner and Essential Skills Computer Fundamentals

After a brief overview of computer hardware, participants will learn the basics of the Windows operating environment with emphasis on basic terminology, the desktop, icons and shortcuts, the taskbar, launching and closing applications, multi-tasking between programs, and basic Windows properties. Particular emphasis is placed on simple file and folder management, which is a fundamental requirement when working with documents. Horticulture Birch Tapping and Syrup Production

Be introduced to “sugaring off” boreal forest style. Tapping birch sap is considered “agro-forestry” and the sap itself is a “non-timber forest product” (NTFP). The workshop will focus on tree and sap physiology, backyard and commercial supplies and equipment, legislation and marketing, food safe production, culinary uses, and an introduction to other products that can be made from the birch tree. An emphasis will be made as to how birch tapping fits into healthy community sustainability and economic diversification. The workshop will include a demonstration on tree tapping in addition to evaporating sap using a backyard hobby method.

Colour Uncharted

This workshop will offer an approach to colour significance in painting beyond imitation and naturalistic representation.

Beginning with the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist break with tradition, examples of the varied colour harmonies of Monet, the expressive clashes and contrasts of Van Gogh and the dynamic broken colour compositions of Signac and Seurat will be shown and discussed.

Some references and a brief review of colour theory will be given. The balance of the workshop will be devoted to transferring your fresh awareness of colour expression to your own painting based on a real or imagined subject from your photograph or sketch and creating a small set of images to be developed further independently.

Connections and Contrasts in Series Painting

Designed to open new avenues to creativity, this workshop will begin with a brief overview of the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist Period. It will feature primarily the series paintings of Monet, Cezanne, and Van Gogh as a means of demonstrating and exploring some of the similarities and differences in their approach to creativity. Concepts such as plein-air painting, capturing the fleeting moment (Monet), “making something solid of Impressionism” (Cezanne), and “expressing colour forcibly” (Van Gogh), will be examined and interpreted with a hands-on series of exercises/studies in your own medium.

Your Health Prenatal - Evenings or Weekends

The objective of our Prenatal Classes is to allow the mother-to-be, her partner and/or her support person to gain the essential knowledge of a healthy pregnancy, learn the practical skills so important to a positive childbirth experience, as well as receive valuable information on early care of the newborn. Our childbirth educators work in partnerships with the client, health professionals and the community.

The course consists of six classroom hours plus a hospital tour. Topics include labour and delivery, interventions and complications, postpartum for mother and baby, breastfeeding and the newborn.

As soon as pregnancy is confirmed we encourage expectant women to enrol in the class that best suits them. Completion of the class should be approximately six weeks before your due date.

REFUND POLICY

Students will be issued a full refund or a letter of credit if Okanagan College cancels a course.
