Greschner has been immersed in the figure skating world for more than 30 years. She got her start at age four and was competitive for many years until she transformed her skills into a long-time career travelling abroad with Disney On Ice. After performing with Disney, Greschner moved to coaching.

“One of the coach’s responsibilities is the music, which sets the tone for the performance,” explains Greschner.

“Finding the right piece of music is no easy feat and I thought to myself, ‘why not create my own?’”

Armed with an original business idea in mind to produce custom music for athletes’ performances, Greschner enrolled in the College’s Audio Engineering and Music Production (AEMP) certificate program to get the necessary training to make her business idea happen.

“I envisioned a niche business helping coaches and choreographers eliminate the problem solving of music and focus their attention on the creation of the performance,” explains Greschner. “I knew I needed a better technical understanding of music editing and how to achieve the perfect tone and energy.”

“One of the really unique things about the AEMP certificate was the wide array of students, each who had something different they wanted to do with their education,” she says. “You’ve got this one educational program that is appealing to DJs, musicians, stage production workers and business owners – it was really neat to hear everyone’s plans and the different ways they were using this training.”

Pest Management for Fruit Trees Are bugs damaging the fruit in your backyard? Is the fruit brown and rotting before picking it? Are aphids driving you crazy? Cannabis and the Workplace

With the legalization of cannabis, employers must be prepared for how they will manage the resulting issues in the workplace.

This workshop will explore the impact of this cultural shift as well as the relevant federal, provincial and municipal regulations governing the use of cannabis. The rights and responsibilities of employers and employees regarding recreational cannabis and the obligations for accommodation of medically prescribed marijuana will be discussed. Legalization does not negate the employer’s right to set rules for the workplace and it is critical to proactively update policies regarding alcohol and drugs to include cannabis.

Pest Management for Cannabis Production This workshop is for persons growing cannabis plants indoors or outdoors and is designed for commercial growers of medicinal cannabis, persons growing cannabis for personal use or persons interested in working in this industry. The content will also be of interest to persons working in greenhouse production of flowers and vegetables.

The workshop will guide students through a review of the main pest problems of this cannabis production and discuss management tools that are effective and meet the requirements of Health Canada. The morning will be a detailed focus on powdery mildew and spider mites, the two key pest problems of cannabis. We will examine all options for management, either for organic production or with conventional pesticides that are registered for this crop.

EMPLOYMENT SKILLS EMPLOYMENT SKILLS Basic Drafting Drafting is the language used in the construction industry for communicating ideas and instructions. Construction drawings are used for selling and building those ideas. Most construction and presentation drawings today are done on computers but the initial ideas and concepts are often still sketched out by hand.

An understanding of hand drafting is still important to a drafter/ designer. This introductory course will outline some of the basic techniques and terminology used for hand sketching and basic drafting. This course will be completed by hand, not with a CAD software program.

Who planted the first commercial vineyard in the Okanagan Valley?

Where was the first vineyard planted in Oliver? Who came up with the idea for estate wineries and changed the regulations to allow them? The B.C. wine industry has a fascinating history that goes back almost a century, making the Okanagan Valley the epicenter of B.C. wine and a world-class wine region because of the work done by many industry pioneers. This seminar will tell you their stories and the milestones that built the B.C. wine industry to where it is today.

Craft Beer Appreciation The ever increasing popularity of craft beer will be the feature of this tasty and informative class. Learn the systematic approach to appreciating the qualities, flavours and styles to this finely crafted beverage. Taught by some of the Okanagan’s finest brew masters, you will taste diverse beer styles, and learn about beer history, ingredients, brewing process, styles, presentation and sensory evaluation. A Crash Course in Wine Marketing You’ve got wine to sell, and so does everyone around you. How can you set yourself apart from the crowds and let consumers know what’s special about your winery? This workshop will take you from the traditional four P’s of Product, Price, Place and Promotion, to the key steps in building a marketing plan. Learn about targeting your promotions, advertising, communications, social media, publicity and more. Through experienced leadership, you’ll spend the day identifying opportunities and creating a roadmap for marketing your brand that will lead to success. By day’s end, you will have an outline for a marketing plan that you can immediately start applying to your business.

Introduction to B.C. Wine Come explore the wines of British Columbia. In this 12-hour course you’ll learn what makes B.C. wine unique and how to enjoy, recommend and serve B.C. wines. You’ll gain experience tasting and identifying wines and learn about B.C. wine history and regions. This course is excellent for servers, or those who just what to learn more about B.C.’s world-class wines.

Introduction to Grapes and Wine This course will introduce the various legal, health, historical, production, viticultural regions and marketing aspects of the wine trade in Canada. An overview of wine styles from around the world; packaging and presentation; cellaring and sensory evaluation.

Introduction to Wine Chemistry This lecture and hands on training is intended for individuals with a winemaking background but no formal training in chemistry. The course provides an overview of the chemical reactions that occur in wine and in winemaking, and complements prior experience or future training in laboratory wine analysis, providing attendees with the required chemical background to make informed decisions on wine processing. Topics to be covered include the chemical and biochemical aspects of winemaking, wine chemical compounds and biochemical processes, and spoilage of wines. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of pH dependent chemistry in winemaking, titratable acidity, buffer capacity and equilibrium concepts in wine, fermentation end products and flavour, aroma, and colour compounds. Lectures and discussion will emphasize vintage preparation and processing.

Join us during this comparative tasting workshop of Irish, Bourbon, Canadian and Indian varieties using Scotch as a baseline. You will walk away knowing the differences in how they are made, where the flavors come from and of course explore the different tastes.

Enjoy an overview of wine styles, wine production and sensory evaluation of wine. A combination of theory and practical exercises cover factors in food and wine that affect pairing. U-Brew with a Pro Learn the basics of brewing with a brewmaster originally from Germany. A sophisticated brew system will be used to demonstrate the steps involved in making a good all-grain beer without a beer kit. Acquire tips and tricks of brewing like the professionals. Learn about hops, malts, yeast and styles. Once the fermentation and conditioning is complete, you will be able to pick up and enjoy your own taste sample.

CONTINUING STUDIES REFUND POLICY Non-certificate Course Withdrawal Refund requests must be made at least two business days (48 hours) prior to the course start date. No refunds are issued for requests received with less than two business days’ notice.

Students may withdraw by phone, fax, email, mail or in person.

Special refund polices apply to courses where indicated. Check the policy when registering.

Non-certificate courses with tuition fees of $500 or more will have a five business day refund policy unless an exception is made by the Director.
