WHO DOESN’T LOVE A GOOD STORY? Storytelling is a big part of what makes us human.

But what happens when your story gets told for you? Or when your story becomes, as Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie puts it, a single story? For a long time, the African narrative has been told on the global stage from a Western perspective. Despite receiving harsh criticism, ridicule glimps into Nigeria. We learn about Nigerian celebrations, proverbs, foods, and values.

This year we are celebrating #ourstories. What we have learned from the more than 80 screenings since this inception of this festival is that at the end of the day, our stories unite us. Our stories, when told in our most authentic voices, touch the hearts and souls of those once considered foreign and this is when we realize, we are all one.
