Students at the University of St. Gallen start oikos St. Gallen

1987

The oikos Foundation is established to promote academic programs on sustainable economics & management

1990

Students at 4 other universities in Europe join their colleagues in St. Gallen to put oikos on the international map

1998

oikos launches the PhD Fellowship programme

oikos welcomes representatives from the entire community in 21 countries to the first oikos FutureLab

LEAP The oikos Leadership Programme (LEAP) inspires young leaders to become more responsible in their decision making and equips them with insights, knowledge and tools to do so.

Young Scholars Academies Four days of coaching and advancing sustainability driven research on topics like finance, development, entrepreneurship and economics.

Project Development Fund Seed funding and coaching for chapter projects. Recent examples include a conference organized by oikos Bayreuth on “Post-Growth and Sustainable Consumption� and a regional meeting in Asia hosted by oikos Kolkata on best sustainability practices in developed and developing countries.

Spring Meetings Annual global meeting of the oikos community hosted by a local chapter to exchange experiences, develop skills and initiate projects.

Cases Programme Case writing competition and teaching initiative that promotes the development and use of cases on sustainability in management, strategy and entrepreneurship.

PhD Fellowships International fellowship programme for young academics focused on sustainability in economics and management. Examples of research topics: sustainable finance, corporate governance, social entrepreneurship.

Taste our projects

Winter School Associates oikos Associates join us for 6-months to deepen their knowledge and network on a specific topic. The first oikos Associate, Christoph Rappitsch, engaged with us in 2016 with a focus on “Digitalization and Sustainability”.

The oikos Winter School is an annual event hosted by our chapter in Witten-Herdecke. It provides a platform for students to deepen their knowledge on a particular sustainability topic and foster vital international exchange.

FutureLab The FutureLab is an annual oikos event that gathers our global family of student members, alumni, advisors, faculty and partners. It is not only a meeting to share perspectives on the future, but also a “laboratory” to design initiatives and engage the oikos community in pursuing them.

Young Scholars Finance Academy The oikos Young Scholars Finance Academy provides an intensive experience of learning and academic exchange on research topics around finance and sustainability. In 2017 we are hosting the event together with the Department of Banking and Finance at the University of Zurich.
