Jennifer Ann Montes, MD, MPH General Surgeon

Jennifer Ann Montes is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as an Exceptional Woman in Healthcare in the Medical field.

Dr. Montes was destined to become a physician. Encouraged by her father and two uncles who are also physicians, Dr. Montes knew early on that she wanted to follow in their footsteps. She began her journey into medicine by earning her undergraduate degree at Cornell University. She continued her education by earning a Master of Public Health degree (MPH) from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. She then earned her medical degree from the Temple University School of Medicine and went on to complete her surgical training at Lenox Hill Hospital.

While in medical school, Dr. Montes met a woman specializing in breast surgery that sparked an interest. The doctoral student started learning more about breast surgery, and that’s when it hit her. According to Dr. Montes, the world of breast surgery encompasses all aspects of medicine. Because she values relationships and community outreach, Dr. Montes knew this was her pathway. Soon after, Dr. Montes was selected for a fellowship in breast surgery at New York University Langone Medical Center, fulfilling a desire to help those who have breast diseases.

Passionate about the treatment of breast disease since the early days of her medical career she sought out every opportunity to expose herself to the field at varying high-profile institutions. She has worked with some of the most prominent leaders in the field. During her residency, she completed externships at Memorial Sloan Kettering Columbia University and St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital and was selected for a fellowship in breast surgery at New York University Langone Medical Center. These opportunities allowed her to publish and present clinical research, perfect her surgical skills, and draw from many different schools of thought and styles to form her own unique treatment approach.

Dr. Montes truly believes that paramount of treating any disease is to bring East and West together synergistically, and she embraces the integration of holistic modalities to do so. She realized during her training that the integration of Eastern and holistic treatments to treat the mind and spirit were equally as important as state-of-the-art Western medicine to treat the body. She works closely with the Hunterdon Health & Wellness Centers, as well as with several holistic healers in the community and looks forward to introducing her patients to the benefits of holistic modalities, such as Reiki, acupuncture, massage, aromatherapy, and integrative nutrition.

A board-certified general surgeon specializing in diseases of the breast, Dr. Montes is the Director of Hunterdon Breast Surgery Center, serving patients in Flemington and Washington New Jersey. Her goal is to offer patients the utmost state-of-the-art care and provide the reassurance and guidance they need during their time of treatment. The Hunterdon Breast Surgery Center combines a comfortable, supportive environment with first-rate comprehensive diagnostic and treatment resources, all conveniently close to home. The board-certified surgeons diagnose and treat cancerous and benign disorders of the breast.

According to Dr. Montes, general surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix, and other body systems. A general surgeon performs a wide range of surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric, and biliary disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery, all the way to outpatient care. After her time in the big city was complete, Dr. Montes relocated to Hunterdon County where she brings all that she has learned to the women of her community.

In addition to serving the community in her medical practice, Dr. Montes has started her own non-profit organization called “Evolve Pink.” The organization opened in March 2020. The mission is to help women during the process of treatment. Activities include knitting, aromatherapy, acupuncture, Reiki, yoga, etc. All services that the organization provides create a community for those who are on the same journey. Evolve Pink offers numerous online resources as well as a “Thrivers Lounge,” which opened about a year and a half ago and meets in person.

Dr. Montes is motivated by her patients and seeing the change as they undergo the often catastrophic process of breast disease treatment. During a surgery call while in residency, she encountered “pure suffering and desperation,” and realized the dedication and devotion these people must have to get the job done. She notes that seeing her patients dedicated to the metamorphosis of breast disease treatment, and also knowing that they will benefit in the long run, is a major piece of her motivation.

The best advice she has ever received is that it will all pass. “Sitting there, calculating how many years you have until graduation, the number of weeks before the semester ends— the truth of the matter is, this is all temporary. And all things will soon pass,” Dr. Montes stated.

For more information about Dr. Montes’ business and non-profit organization, please visit the following websites: www.hunterdonbreastsurgery.org and www.evolvepink.org.

Patricia L. Blake Retired Police Lieutenant and Author

LAPD

Yerington, NV

Yerington, NV — Patricia L. Blake is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Top Pinnacle Public Servant for her achievements as a Retired Police Lieutenant and Author.

Patricia L. Blake joined the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) in May of 1983. Her career as a sworn LAPD officer spanned almost 34 years. Patricia was promoted through the ranks and held the positions of acting and assistant detective commanding officer, patrol watch commander, and acting patrol commanding officer. She was part of a leadership team at the Foothill Division that focused on crime analysis, developing crime strategies, and implementing cutting edge predictive policing.

Upon retirement, Patricia continued as an active reserve officer as the Officer in Charge

(OIC) of a unique mounted volunteer cavalry unit, the Valley Community Cavalry Rough Riders (VCCRR). This cavalry unit was deployed in local parks, trails, and business malls throughout the city. The unit’s mission includes public outreach, crime prevention, education, mounted color guard for parades, evacuation, and search and rescue efforts. The unit enhances good will and fosters a partnership between police and the local community.

Patricia became one of two of the first female field patrol Field Training Officers (FTO’s) at Rampart Division. She was also the first female Senior Lead Officer (SLO) at the same division in 1989. She received the Officer of the Year award at Rampart, and earned a Meritorious Unit Citation at the Wilshire Division as the officer in charge of a hand chosen special problems unit which improved the quality of life in the local community in an area impacted by gang and narcotics activity, violence and crime.

Patricia earned a B.A. from CSUN, a M.A. in Organizational Leadership from the University of Phoenix, and she completed the West Point Leadership Course with the LAPD in 2003. She was an affiliate of the Los Angeles Women Police Officer and Associates (LAWPOA) and the California Peace Officers Association. In 2014 LAWPOA recognized Patricia for her exceptional leadership and mentoring during her career with the Department.

Recently, Patricia wrote a factual personal testimony documenting her career and real life police work with the LAPD entitled “Touched by the Hand of God in the City of Angels – SEND ME.” Patricia relates possessing a strong conviction in a verse in the Holy Bible Old Testament, Isaiah 6:8, where the Lord speaks to the Prophet Isaiah and asks “Whom shall I send” to deliver horrible news to Isaiah’s people. Isaiah’s immediate response was “Send me.” Patricia believes God sends angels to watch over all First Responders, including law enforcement, military, fire, medical and paramedics to watch over, protect and shield them. The Lord also sends our First Responders as angels to protect and shield others in their darkest moments of despair, sheer terror and pain. Her testimony recognizes God’s guidance from childhood which instilled a strong sense of justice and the Calling to protect the innocent and the vulnerable. Patricia asserts that Good versus evil does exist and monsters in the darkness do exist!

In her spare time, Patricia enjoys church activities, racquetball, horseback riding, and jogging. She participated over ten times in the annual international law enforcement 120-mile Baker-to-Vegas team relay run.

For more information on Patricia L. Blake, her Instagram handle is @authorpatricialblake.
