eptember in Malta arrives with a little more breathing room. It is still hot, still humid and very much summer, but, hopefully, the worst of the heatwaves are behind us. August was brutal, so we are more than ready for a month that feels a little kinder. And there is plenty to keep you busy. This issue is packed with ideas for making the most of Malta, whether you have a full week to explore or only a precious afternoon between meetings. For those with limited time, we have put together a one-day itinerary linking the Three Cities with Valletta – a chance to see some of the island’s history, architecture and Grand Harbour without spending half your day in traffic.

For anyone with more time, we make the case for staying in Gozo rather than treating it as a day trip. There is a different side to the island after the day-trippers have left, from quiet evenings and spectacular sunsets to village festas, opera, swimming spots, great food and plenty of reasons to slow down.

September also brings two public holidays. On 8 September, Victory Day commemorates important moments in Maltese history, including the end of the Great Siege of 1565 and Italy’s surrender in 1943. Fort St Angelo offers a particularly atmospheric vantage point for the day, with ceremonies, historical activities and the National Regatta taking place across the Grand Harbour. Then, on 21 September, Malta celebrates Independence Day, marking the country’s independence from the United Kingdom in 1964.

Add to that a packed calendar of events, places to visit, things to do and some of the island’s top restaurant spots, and September is shaping up to be anything but quiet. So whether you are here for business, a long weekend or the last proper taste of summer, there is plenty to explore. Grab this issue, pick a day, and go.

n September, Malta and Gozo welcome a month that brings together history, culture, community and new experiences. As summer gradually gives way to autumn, our islands continue to offer a diverse programme of events and activities that appeal bto both visitors and local communities. A defining moment of the month is Victory Day on 8 September, a national public holiday commemorating significant milestones in Malta's history. Celebrations at Fort St Angelo, including commemorations, historical re-enactments and special access to this remarkable heritage site, offer an opportunity to reflect on our nation's enduring resilience, while the traditional National Re-
September also celebrates diversity and inclusion with the Malta Pride March, bringing the community together in Valletta for a vibrant celebration of equality, dignity and human rights. Through music, colour and collective participation, this important event reflects Malta's continued commitment to being an open and welcoming destination for all. In Gozo, the spirit of tradition continues through the revival of the Ġostra during Otters Fest, preserving a centuries-old cultural practice and offering another authentic experience of our islands' rich heritage. September reflects the strength of Malta and Gozo's tourism experience: diverse, inclusive and deeply connected to our history and identity. As we continue to welcome visitors from around the world, we remain committed to creating meaningful experiences that celebrate our heritage while looking confidently towards the future. OH MY MALTA

The settings vary as much as the cooking. One evening in a village square, with little to interrupt the conversation but the church bells. Another on a rooftop, the villages spread below and Xewkija's dome floodlit in the middle distance. Another at the water's edge at Xlendi or Mġarr, over fish landed that morning. Two opera houses on one street Victoria, the island's only town, has roughly 7,000 residents and two opera houses. Teatru Astra and Teatru tal-Opra Aurora stand a few minutes apart on the same road, each seating around 1,200 people, each mounting its own full opera every autumn with international soloists and an orchestra and chorus of its own. Consider what that means. A town of 7,000 sustains two rival grand opera companies, largely through the voluntary work of the people who live there, and has done so for half a century. Between them the theatres stage musicals, concerts and productions right through the year, so a night at the theatre is a real prospect on most weeks rather than a lucky coincidence.

Start Across the Harbour Begin at the Upper Barrakka Gardens, one of Valletta’s most spectacular viewpoints overlooking the Grand Harbour. EXPLORING THE ARCHITECTURAL WONDER OF THE MOSTA DOME In Mosta, the iconic Mosta Dome is a must-visit landmark for tourists to the island, celebrated for its vast dome, rich history, artistic treasures, and panoramic views.
I
n the heart of Malta lies the bustling town of Mosta, home to one of the archipelago’s most remarkable churches,
the Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. This magnificent landmark, widely known as the Mosta Dome or Rotunda, is an essential stop for visitors exploring the island. Inspired by the design of the Pantheon in Rome, architect Giorgio Grognet de Vassé gave the basilica its own distinctive character rather than creating a replica. Its vast dome, one of the largest unsupported domes in the world, captivates visitors with its scale, harmony, and ornate decoration. Constructed between 1833 and 1860, the basilica stands as a testament to community dedication. Much of the work was carried out voluntarily by local residents over many years. Remarkably, the previous parish church remained in use within the new structure until construction was completed. Today, the basilica welcomes visitors throughout the week, with extended hours on selected days. Visits may be spiritual, cultural, or a blend of both. For religious visitors, the basilica is an expression of devotion. Its grand architecture and richly decorated interior inspire contemplation and praise.
Cultural visitors find an equally powerful

Haywharf, Floriana Just past the Excelsior Hotel down a side street with no real street presence, which is exactly why it works. Sitting right on the water’s edge with panoramic views of the Valletta harbour, yacht marinas and Manoel Island, it’s one of the better hidden sunset spots on the island. Mediterranean menu, good Maltese wines, solid food. Book ahead on weekends.
Enchanté, Senglea The Three Cities are criminally underrated for a meal with a view, and Enchanté is the reason to go. Located by the sea in Senglea, right across from Valletta, where Maltese history was made through the ages, the terrace gives you one of the most dramatic backdrops on the island. The menu is mainly local fish and pasta dishes, giving it a pure authentic Mediterranean feel, and the portions are generous. One for a long, slow dinner.
Ta' Marija, Mosta A stone's throw away from the majestic Mosta Dome is the superb Ta' Marija Restaurant, run by a charming family since 1964. It has strongly established itself as the foremost exponent of authentic Maltese cuisine. Once you enter the door and leave the bustling main street in Mosta, you enter a world of genuine Maltese food and an authentic sense of Maltese hospitality, weaved in with local entertainment on select evenings. Who says you can’t dine, dance and sparkle all in one place?
Tribelli, Valletta Waterfront Down on the waterfront Tribelli prides itself on showcasing local Maltese flavours with stunning views of the Grand Harbour, and the menu leans into it, rabbit, bragjoli, stuffed marrows, slow-cooked everything. Inspired by recipes passed down through generations, it takes a modern approach to traditional dishes without losing what makes them worth eating.

growth while providing a new quality of life for his family. Following the successful launch of Bracket’s AI-powered treasury platform in the UK, the company was looking for the right jurisdiction from which to expand across Europe. Malta quickly emerged as a natural choice. “So, in April 2025 we decided to set up our offices in Malta. After a successful product launch in the UK we wanted to expand our product into Europe so we chose Malta as our hub to do this.” Having joined FinanceMalta in 2025, Bracket is now part of Malta’s broader financial services and business community; an ecosystem that continues to attract companies looking to combine European market access with an international workforce, supportive institutions and a compelling lifestyle.
