This March issue we look at SS19 and how you can incorporate the latest trends into that powerful prowess of yours. Speaking of which, take this time to celebrate other woman the way you’d want to be celebrated. Buy them flowers, coffee, or a spa day. Take a girlfriend under your wing and sit down to just listen to her latest struggle with whatever challenging kid-phase, work issue or personal struggle that they are dealing with. Pass along the inspiration you feel from other females. Tell them “Good job!” for juggling so much instead of the tired, “I don’t know how she does it.” Here’s the thing: we know we’re in a special club as females. We’re a pretty intimidating bunch. It’s a sisterhood and there’s a code. Everyone is different, and the best thing we can do for each other is to embrace that and just celebrate who we are. Yes, there’s International Women’s Day, but deem this as the day to kick-start the constant reminder that we should all pause and just compliment one another, for the simple reason of ‘just because’ - all year around. It’s time to celebrate YOU. Good job, sister! Keep going - because, I see you.

The tantalising pieces allowed for a truly revered experience. This year, Boucheron also unveiled in exclusivity its new jewellery icon Jack de Boucheron. We have over 200 breathtaking masterpieces on display at this year’s show, we’re excited to be a part of the region’s most coveted luxury jewellery show. We have curated a collection of exquisite diamonds and gemstones which represents over 180 years of the brand’s luxury design legacy and style. Highlights include rare designs of exceptional beauty by one of the twentieth century’s most gifted artists, Jean Schlumberger. We also have a selection from 2018’s Blue Book collection, which was the first high jewellery collection from our new Chief Artistic Officer, Reed Krakoff, another highlight is the captivating 50 carat flawless solitaire diamond ring, amongst many other gemstone designs, fancy coloured diamond and white diamond pieces. Why is it important for Tiffany & Co to be at the show this year? How has the response been so far? This is a strong and established platform for Tiffany & Co., and its importance for us is reflected in the significant curated collection we have on display here today. You have the Chief Gemologist from New York at the show this year, what an incredible representative to have on site – what does he bring for your customers? Based in Paris, and with Middle Eastern-Colombian heritage, Amy Gattas is a fine jeweller whose work is an intensely personal reflection of family and culture. Splitting her time between an atelier in Paris, workshop in Colombia, and family home in Beirut, Gattas is passionate about the art of Colombian Filigree, Gattas is on a mission to keep traditional craftsmanship alive. Having studied design in Paris, and found her passion in jewellery design, Amy travelled through India, Morocco and Peru, researching jewellery making techniques and traditions. In the end, it was in her very own country, Colombia, that Amy discovered the ancestral know-how of the goldsmiths, who work an extremely fine solid silver wire known as filigree. Filigree is the signature of Amy Gattas’ jewellery collection, blended with influence from contemporary arts. Amy Gattas Bijoux pieces are made from silver, gold, raw emerald and amethyst stones. Each of the filigree pieces are hand-made by craftsmen in Mompox, Colombia with a mixture of thread, patience, love and persistence. The stones used in the collection include amethyst from the cave of Muzo near Bogota, plus precious and semi-precious stones from Brazil and Birmani. Amy Gattas’ collection is a reflection of her primary inspirations; the natural beauty of raw gemstones, her Middle Eastern heritage, and the indigenous Colombian art that is a constant influence on her. Barely there, fresh-out-of-a-facial skin is one of the biggest beauty trends for SS19. This dewy look is super easy to create by blending in some highlighter with your foundation. This trend is better left simple with just a touch of baby pink or soft peach blush to give off an English rose vibe. Pare it back even more by skipping the foundation completely and opting for a light BB cream to accentuate freckles and your natural skin tone.

Glitter has been present for the last couple of seasons and it seems it’s here to stay. Colour is always popular for the Spring/Summer shows and there are plenty of great colour trends present for SS19. Eyes and brows is where you will see most colour this season with bright pink eyebrows and lots of graphic liner in heavy blue and orange. This trend is not for wallflowers so if you are going to embrace it go all the way with bright and bold make up. Forget subtle make-up and embrace a full on neon hue across your whole eyelid.
While make up trends lean more towards the bold and grunge, hair is all about romance this season. Word on the beauty grapevine is that Roots Hair & Beauty are renowned for their ultimate beauty treatments that have you walking out like a goddess. Well, we’ve done our due diligence and Anushay Khan has booked herself in for the full works.
rom the moment I called for an appointment, I was anxious that Roots Hair & Beauty wouldn’t be able to book me in since I know for a fact that they are a very sought after salon and I was worried that it would be difficult to fit me in, therefore when they confirmed my booking I felt like an utter VIP, complete with that girly giddy feeling
knowing that flows over you when it comes to a prepampering session. As soon as I walked in, I felt welcome. The receptionist welcomed me and politely guided me to take a seat in their relaxing seating area prior to my pedicure treatment. What can I say? I was so eager to be pampered that I attended this appointment early! Right on the dot, Sandra came to receive me and then I went on the journey for my first deluxe pedicure. Now I follow the sacred book of pedicures and always go for the classic one and this was my first experience with a deluxe pedicure. I was pleasantly surprised with the extra service that I was getting as my feet got treated with a mask, something I didn’t know the poor babies needed till after I was done! Once the mask was applied, my feet were wrapped in plastic cling for ten minutes. This resulted in softer, polished feet and I got them embellished with my favourite maroon nail paint. I think my foot massage was the cherry on the cake and I just sat back on my massage chair, that was already doing its magic, as Sandra ended my perfect hour with the softest hands treating me. Soon after, I started my shellac manicure, which is basically the nail paint that is supposed to last 2-3 weeks. So far, I haven’t loved my hands more and gone about my routine without a fear in the world (chipped nail polish is an actual phobia, guys). After a quick cup of tea and some pleasant conversation, I was taken in the treatment room and introduced to Joy who was going to be doing my eyelash extensions. This is the absolute first time that I got something done on my eyes and I was very skeptical. One thing that everyone needs to know before going in for eyelash extension is that you need to be

Imagine, picking each eyelash and adding an extension to it! I was explained the entire process during this time and I got to know that since my eyelashes with slanting more on the outer edge, it took Joy some time to carefully add the extensions as she had to first try and straighten the direction. However, my left eye was the troublemaker here. It took extra time to fix it since it was very prominently slanting outwards. I will thank ANTM for this and my ‘big reveal” moment because I completely added the dramatics to the moment before finally checking in the mirror. The change was major and I absolutely loved it. My eyes look wider, the dramatic length gives a very striking look and even though I didn’t have any makeup on, my face
still looked dressed up. Joy had warned me and I could feel myself giving in to the eyelash extension life – I’m booked after 3 weeks for a filler! The extensions were followed by an Indian head massage where muscles that I didn’t even know needed attention were soothed. What I loved about my service was that during the head massage, Joy simply stopped in the middle and started working on my left eyelash again, making sure she was delivering perfect work. This is the type of service one expects when they go in for such procedures! The last stop, 3 hours later, was for my hair. As soon as I met Hannah, we immediately dived into a conversation about the health of my hair. Expert knowledge, some tears, and an entire discussion later, she settled for Kerastase treatment for frizzy and dry hair for me. She checked my hair and told me a few tricks for maintenance as well. We had a healthy conversation on hair care and I was told about the basic mistakes that I had been making – hair color, serums, and shampoos included. After washing my hair and blessing me with another head massage, Hannah showed me the treatment she had made for my hair. She sprayed it in my wet hair and proceeded for a blow dry. With every few strands that she was drying, I could see a shine in my hair. Again, I didn’t want to test it before the entire procedure was complete. My hair was softer, had a healthy glow and I could see where it needed to be cut. The treatment is going to last for an entire week and I am very impressed with the results so far. Of course, I have already booked myself follow up appointments for my hair because it is a blessing when someone runs you through every step and advise you for the best option. So, I’m mentally preparing another doover with Roots, that speaks volumes for them because they hooked in their customer the very first time. Attention to detail, greeting regulars like friends, lotus biscuits with tea and experts for every section; those are the secret ingredients that make Roots a favourite for many. I had heard a lot of talk about them and they absolutely lived up to their name. 5 hours later, with a set of new eyelashes and very smartly styled hair, all I needed was a party to go to! anuary and February rolled by in a flash and, with the arrival of March and its fabulous new fashion trends, many of us are left questioning whether the loss of the New Year’s freshness means the resolutions and goals set as we welcomed 2019 will end up in the trash bin. Lying among the forgotten plans to stop gossiping and exercising more and the eternal pledge not to judge others’ questionable fashion (and life!) choices. What if instead of falling for that “too late to try” trap, view each quarter as a closing of the Year event, making March the ideal time to take stock of our accomplishments (and celebrate them accordingly!), review the progress of our plans and adjust where needed, and to correct past mistakes to prevent future losses? I say, let’s turn 2019 into the year of ‘TaDah’s’ instead of ‘To-Do’s’ and let’s start revising how to close Q1 with the best energy to rock 2019, or at least the upcoming nine months! The majority of us in the world, whether employed, self-employed, stayat-home-moms or entrepreneurs, tend to struggle when defining and sticking to personal goals. In fact, something I see with my coaching clients time and time again is a trend not to take their non-career related goals seriously. Basically, when the expectation comes from within and the results are only about us, we tend to be more lax than if we had to report progress to someone else. This is why it is so important to make sure we centre ourselves throughout the goal setting process, as I recommended on our January issue, yet at the same time review and adjust them on a monthly and weekly basis. If you see your life as the most important enterprise you’ll ever commit to, then creating milestones, strategies and even Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for your life, purpose, joy and health, could be the missing piece in making sure that 2019 closes the way you intended it to in January. With Q1 closing, I invite you to take the New Seasons vibes to look at the months passed with a fresher approach and ask yourself: • Have I done all I could to come closer to my goals for 2019? • Where have I slacked in what has passed from 2019? • What areas need my focus as I move forward on this year? • What is one goal I want to tackle to close Q1 with great results? I know, I know, this feels more like a corporate exercise than a personal 82
one, but after all, your biggest gains won’t come from moving up or down the corporate ladder, believe it or not, but from having a sense of growth and purpose in and for yourself. So, why not bring some corporate-like focus to creating a fantastic present for you? was bigger than my apartment, a dining area and two en-suites with the master bathroom having a TV in the bath so you absorb a movie or TV show while soaking in the tub. The rooms have classical white walls and cream carpets, but, have wonderful touches like the black archways that lead into the bathroom, or the ante-chamber filled with closets for hanging clothes and a chaiselong to sit on while pondering what to wear! It’s also the only hotel I’ve ever known that still has a nineteenth century tradition of a butler service. Natalia introduced herself to me once I’d checked in and was on hand to assist with anything during my stay. Not long after I’d arrived, hung everything up and pondered what to wear, I started getting to grips with the geography of the property. Not that easy it must be said, the place is huge! Or feels it anyway. I got to The Rooftop for a sparkling aperitif and enjoyed the unrelenting glamour of the place. A DJ was spinning some house music as guests started the evening and the place got busier as the evening went on though it was a touch windy
It doesn’t come as a surprise that St Regis Doha is coined as ‘the perfect urban escape for you and your loved ones’. Craig Ferriman ignites us with his remarkable staycation but we can’t help being overly jealous. St Regis has always been synonymous with class and it’s often referred as the address to stay at in Doha. It’s built so beautifully and impossible to miss from the sea – a halfway house between the hectic West Bay skyline and the residential and recreational island of The Pearl. This is a hotel that doesn’t want to be compared to any others. It wants to be in a league of its own and though I’d visited it many times, my stay there this time made me realise just how leagues ahead of the rest this place is. The hotel is like a castle. Long corridors with crisp white walls, separate wings and many outlets. It’s easy to get lost in it. REGIONAL Escapes that night. As long as there isn’t a breeze, it’s a great space to gather and a good party spot. My first night dinner was in the main international dining venue, The Vine. My innate snobbery set low expectations and I rather anticipated a mass food bog standard buffet service but I was warmly surprised. It was a buffet, but, it was far from bog standard and the standard was high. A great range of international options were served in the spacious and refined dining room. The Vine also has plenty of outdoor seating where fresh stands served barbecue seafood and I tucked into a little lobster having tried some hummus and Arabic salads inside first. The evening food packages there are well priced and service from staff is impeccable. The Vine also serves a good breakfast. The buffet serves mostly what you’d expect from Western to Arabic hot options to fresh fruit and yoghurts but it was the small menu of a-la- carte items that you can order which give the breakfast distinction. The crab royal for example was good. It’s poached eggs to order on bread with a little crab and went down a treat. There are a number of excellent dining options and short of having an extended stay there, it would be impossible to eat in all of them. I did have lunch in Gordon Ramsey’s casual dining outlet, Opal. Outdoor terrace seating is ideal in the cool afternoon breeze looking out to sea with a menu of popular European bistro dishes and the full range of choice from the Raw Bar which is attached to Opal. The Raw Bar kind of does what it says on the label so I opted for a platter of sushi before opting for the battered fish and chips. The chocolate and amaretti pudding with crème Anglaise got me into a pre-prandial state perfect for a late afternoon slumber by the

You’ll have seen pictures of the pool in any promotional literature for St Regis. The Olympic size pool punctuates the open space between the two wings of the hotel. I swam the 50 metre length of it and was ready to lie down again in a side sun-lounger though saw larger groups gathering as cabals in cabanas! Food guilt kicked in on day two after eating so much so I headed to the gym. Their gymnasium is rather big so there was no fight for one of the many treadmills or cross trainers. On my last night I made a pleasant discovery. A new pop-up restaurant has launched by the pool called Riyasat. Tables laid out with lanterns and lots of fairy lighting make for a sunning setting with the backdrop of the hotel and a view of the beach. Staff brought food from a set menu of Northern Indian dishes which contained more than a bit of kick to it. The food was delicious. So much to do at St Regis and never enough time. You can’t fault them. They give you a slice of paradise and leave you wanting to come back for more. @stregisdoha 88

hen I first got the invite for the Swimsuit Social Brunch, my first thought was; “Omg, what!!” Very comfortable with the winter body that I am currently rocking, I wasn’t too sure about getting very ‘swimsuity’ for the event. But the heart wants what it wants, and the skin needs what it needs – my mind simply started flashing the word ‘TAN!’ Yes, I finally gave in and packed myself some easy-breezy clothes for the day as I headed to Marriott Marquis to find out a bit more about this new social scene that I was entering. Even before I had reached the Aqua Lounge, I could hear some good beats that already made me skip a step and tap to the rhythm – yep, I really am all about that bass, ‘bout that bass! Live music welcomed me with arms wide open as the band belted into another pop classic for the day. Even though it was just 1PM, the crowd was already set in a different yet upbeat mood as to what i’m used to, as they munched on some roasted duck and chicken. As I found myself a table, I was lured by some scrumptious looking sliders being made on the grill and I danced right over to those cuties. I really enjoyed the sunny California vibes I was getting at this brunch and as soon as I got done with my first round of testers, I got myself some drinks and headed to the pool for a quick dip. The water was surprisingly warm and since the sun was shining on one sweet pool chair, I ‘dib-sed’ on it and got my much-needed tan back. The pace picked up in the first few hours and I could see the audience in a trance of the live DJ that was also there. With the two live acts in full flow, it’s evident that Marriott Marquis just wants you to keep your Friday afternoon popping! Well, I will never complain about the music since I feel like it is such an essential part in setting the mood, and this brunch did that so well with their Swimsuit Social 92

The fact that the brunch goes on till 6PM is something that is a win, because sometimes, you really just need all that time to set the vibe for the weekend. If the sun gets a bit too warm, you can always dive into the homemade ice creams and reminisce about a summer that is not too far away. Welcoming the new year with a new set of brunches around town, the Swimsuit Social Brunch is the place to be and definitely the place to head to if you want to party the blues away. Mothers! Each and every one of us has their own perceptions and experiences of the term motherhood, whether that’s as a child or indeed a parent. Some mothers have a biological attachment whereas the bond with others is purely emotional and nurtured amongst being developed due to the care and unconditional love that they offer. We all have a mother in one form or another but some of us have two or even more, work mums, football mums, aunties who feel like second mothers; they come in all shapes, sizes and forms. For many of us (including myself) this is another fine example of expectation and reality never quite marrying. At least, not for any length of time. There may be the odd fleeting burst of brilliance where the planets align and you feel triumphant, you’re actually doing a brilliant job as a mother...and then, ‘BANG!’ It all collapses like a Jenga Tower and you’re back to square one. The best part is that you then pick up all the pieces and start over again. This time with more determination and resilience that the tower may teeter but it will not, and I repeat, NOT topple. Just as you are mastering motherhood, honing it to a fine art even, you are thrown a curve ball … teenage hormones! It is a never ending cycle of trial and error of triumph and disaster but with the most exhilarating, glorious moments each time around. Motherhood isn’t just a series of jobs and chores but is also about being a role model, a teacher , therapist, disciplinarian and protector. Each day mothers wear so many ‘hats’ that choosing a fitting uniform or outfit for a mother would be an impossibility, although a ‘flack’ jacket and seemingly bottomless handbag would be essential! They may follow a variety of philosophies and approaches , employ techniques and tools but all have the same goal or outcome - to produce a much better version of themselves in the form of us, their children. I could leave you with a prophetic thought or quote about doing the best for our children, what defines motherhood or unconditional love but, no, I think JD Salinger, author of The Catcher in The Rye when he said, ‘Mothers are all slightly insane. It’s about channelling that insanity into fun, compassion, empathy and joy… in theory at least !
