A Message from the CEO Brethren, Ladies and Families, I hope this letter finds you well and that you are enjoying your summer. It has been a busy time here at The Ohio Masonic Communities. In early June, we held our annual Golf Classic which raises funds for our Connecting Realities Memory Support Programming and had another very successful day. These funds allow us to provide state-of-the-art care settings and unparalleled care and connectivity for those we are so blessed to serve. We were able to honor many of our veterans through Dream Flights events at all three of our campuses. This annual event has rewarded many of our veteran residents to experience a flight in a Stearman WWII Biplane, made possible by the generosity of Darryl Fisher, Founder. What an amazing experience for our residents, their families, and our staff. The joy that this experience provides to our residents reflects the passion we have for the work we do every day. As many of you know, we were unable to hold our Annual Home Day Celebration in 2020. However, we still hosted fireworks for residents and staff on each campus. Since then, we have continued to plan and host annual Community Fest events at our three campuses in Medina, Springfield, and Waterville, Ohio. Open to everyone, these events have grown significantly over the past few years and have elevated to the point that we now host three “Home Days” annually. We were especially excited this year to have the 9th Masonic District participate in Community Fest at Springfield Masonic Community. Word has it, they sold out of all their dogs and burgers! What an amazing opportunity to open our campuses to the community and show them Masonic hospitality. Our residents, staff, and their family members look forward each year to good food, fun and fireworks. Exciting things are happening at Springfield Masonic Community as our repositioning project continues to progress. This expansion will allow us to continue to provide the highest quality care with state-of-the-art facilities and technology. Be sure to check out photos of these events throughout the issue. Fraternally, our campuses continue to provide amazing opportunities for those looking to retire and live in a community where they will continue to thrive. Fraternally, Brother Scott Buchanan CEO, The Ohio Masonic Communities
A Message from the Grand Master My Brothers, As I reflect upon this year, I am filled with gratitude and pride for the Freemasons of Ohio. Throughout our great jurisdiction, I have seen countless examples of dedication, service, leadership, and brotherly love. From our newest Entered Apprentices to our most seasoned Past Masters, Ohio Masons have shown what it truly means to be Committed to the Craft. Freemasonry has never been about a single officer, a single Lodge, or a single year. It is built upon generations of men who have willingly given their time and talents to leave our Fraternity stronger than they found it. This year has been no exception. Everywhere I have traveled across Ohio, I have seen Brothers working diligently to improve their Lodges, mentor new members, support their communities, and ensure that our traditions remain vibrant for future generations. One of the accomplishments that has particularly impressed me has been the growth and success of the Chamber of Reflection experiences throughout our state. The Chamber of Reflection provides a candidate with something that is increasingly rare in today's world, a moment of quiet contemplation. Before taking his first steps into Freemasonry, he is given the opportunity to pause, reflect, and consider the journey that lies ahead. The feedback from candidates has been overwhelmingly positive. Many have described the experience as one of the most memorable and meaningful parts of their initiation. These chambers have encouraged thoughtful introspection and have helped reinforce the seriousness and significance of the obligations they are about to undertake. This success did not happen by accident. It happened because dedicated Brothers across Ohio devoted countless hours to planning, constructing, presenting, and refining these experiences. Their efforts have elevated the candidate experience and helped ensure that the lessons of Freemasonry begin long before the candidate enters the lodge room. To all who have contributed to this effort, I offer my sincere thanks. This year has also been marked by the tremendous success of the Grand Master's One Day Classes. These events displayed the very best of Ohio Freemasonry. Districts, Lodges, ritualists, and volunteers came together with a common purpose: to introduce worthy men to our Fraternity and provide them with an exceptional beginning to their Masonic journey. The success of these classes is a testament to what can be accomplished when Masons unite in purpose and labor together toward a common goal. Because of your efforts, many new Brothers have joined our ranks and begun their journey in Freemasonry. Yet while we should celebrate these successes, we must also remember an important truth: our work is not finished.

(A Message from the Grand Master, continued)
A One Day Class is not the destination. It is merely the beginning. The responsibility of every Lodge extends far beyond conferring degrees. Our obligation is to educate, mentor, engage, and inspire. The men who joined our Fraternity this year are looking to us for guidance. They are looking for friendship, knowledge, leadership, and purpose. They are looking for opportunities to become active participants in our Lodges and our communities. The true measure of our success will not be the number of candidates who received degrees. It will be the number of Brothers who remain engaged, continue their Masonic education, assume leadership roles, and will one day guide the next generation of Ohio Masons. As we celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the United States, we are reminded that our nation was built by men who believed in service, sacrifice, virtue, and personal responsibility. Those same principles remain at the heart of Freemasonry today. The future of our Fraternity, like the future of our nation, depends upon individuals who are willing to step forward, accept responsibility, and commit themselves to something greater than themselves. The opportunities before us are tremendous. We have welcomed new members. We have strengthened the candidate experience. We have demonstrated that Ohio Freemasonry remains vibrant and relevant. Now we must continue the work. We must invest in our new Brothers, strengthen our Lodges, and ensure that every man who enters our Fraternity finds a meaningful place within it. My Brothers, thank you for your dedication, your service, and your unwavering support throughout this year. Thank you for your commitment to your Lodges, your districts, and to Freemasonry itself. Most importantly, thank you for remaining Committed to the Craft. Fraternally, MWB Shawn Johnson Grand Master of Masons in Ohio

They have been reviewing Annual Return information and updating Lodge records before the year-end close on July 31. On August 3, 2026, the Annual Returns will be available in Grand View for each Lodge to print, sign, and return before August 31, 2026. Please thank your secretary when you see him next. Ohio Village Update The Grand Lodge of Ohio had the unique opportunity to go behind the scenes and visit the ongoing construction of Ohio Village, gaining an exciting glimpse into the future of one of the Ohio History Connection’s most treasured destinations. As restoration and improvements continue, plans are already taking shape for a Masonic Dedication once the village officially reopens to the public in 2027. During that celebration, the Grand Lodge hopes to dedicate a new memorial tree and formally rededicate the site, honoring the legacy of the original Memorial Tree dedicating in 1978 by MWB Jerry C. Rasor. The surviving bronze plaque from that original dedication has been preserved and will be placed alongside a newly crafted plaque.

To add even greater significance to the ceremony, soil collected from each of Ohio’s 25 Masonic Districts will be combined to help plant the new tree, symbolizing unity and shared commitment of Freemasons across the state. Be sure to watch for future updates as plans continue to develop for this historic and memorable occasion!

Most Worshipful Brother Shawn A. Johnson's Travels around the State
Honoring Our Past
Each Memorial Day weekend, the Brethren of Aerospace Lodge No. 800 in Heath, Ohio, demonstrate what it truly means to be Committed to the Craft. They gather at Cedar Hill Cemetery to honor the Life and legacy of Most Worshipful Brother Samuel Stacker Williams, Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio in 1887. This continuing tradition reflects both reverence for the past and dedication to the future of Freemasonry! This annual graveside ceremony is much more than a moment of remembrance. It is a living expression of the values that define our Fraternity. By taking the time each Memorial Day weekend to stand beside the grave of this distinguished Ohio Mason, the Brethren affirm that the contributions of those who came before us will never be forgotten. They understand that preserving our history is not the responsibility of one generation alone – it is the duty of every Mason. Most Worshipful Brother Samuel Stacker Williams devoted his life to strengthening the Craft and serving the Brethren of Ohio. He was a great Masonic student and collected one of the most outstanding Masonic Libraries in the United States. The library was donated to the Grand Lodge of Ohio and is the basis of the Grand Lodge’s Library! His extensive correspondence, much of which is preserved in the Grand Lodge Library, led to him being one of the most widely known Masons in the country. The Grand Master’s theme, Committed to the Craft, is beautifully illustrated through this enduring tradition. Commitment is found in showing up, in preserving our customs, in teaching our history, and ensuring that the names and accomplishments of our Masonic leaders continue to be spoken with gratitude and respect. The members of Aerospace Lodge No. 800 do exactly that. Their presence each Memorial Day is a testament to the idea that Freemasonry is strengthened when we remember those who helped build it! By honoring Most Worshipful Brother Samuel Stacker Williams, these Brethren not only preserve his legacy but also reaffirm their own commitment to carrying the principles of Freemasonry into the future. That is what it means to be Committed to the Craft!

One Brother's Story. One Enduring Promise. In 1937, 5-year-old Richard "Dick" Snow began a new chapter of his life at The Ohio Masonic Home (now Springfield Masonic Community) in Springfield, Ohio. Before his father's passing, he entrusted Dick and his brother to the care of the Brothers of York Lodge No. 563, confident they would provide the support his family would soon need. That promise changed the course of his life. What Dick found was far more than a place to live. He found stability, opportunity, mentors, and a community that invested in his future. He graduated from Springfield High School, served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and remained connected to the place that helped shape his life. Today, nearly 86 years after first arriving, Dick and his wife, Marjorie, have come full circle, once again calling Springfield Masonic Community home. The strength of our Fraternity has never been measured by words alone, but by the promises we keep for one another. Our same commitment continues today through The Ohio Masonic Communities Foundation. Your generosity helps ensure that Masons, their families, and those we serve receive compassionate care, support, and opportunity when they need it most. Dick's story began with the promise of our Fraternity. Your generosity helps ensure that same promise reaches future generations.

Masons Working Together to Make a Difference In early March, Vicki White contacted Right Worshipful Brother Fred Goldstein of Aerospace Lodge #800 seeking assistance for her mother, Dolores White. She is the widow of a Mason who needed a stairlift to safely remain in her home. Worshipful Brother Tony Collins of Aerospace Lodge #800 responded by reaching out to Brooke Simonson, Central Ohio Coordinator for The Ohio Masonic Communities Resource Center (OMCRC). Brooke then partnered with DeAnna Kinney, Coordinator of OMCRC’s Masonic Volunteer Program, to connect with the necessary resources and volunteers to help the family. Edsel Emery, a Masonic Volunteer from the 24th Masonic District, coordinated the effort alongside Brother Frank Serrao of Wellsville Lodge and Worshipful Master Tony Collins, who also serves as a Masonic Volunteer in the 19th District. The project began with a generous $500 donation from the Lodge, which covered the majority of the approximately $600 installation cost. An equally generous gift came from Jack Riley, volunteer Edsel Emery's neighbor, who donated a stairlift which had previously been used by his late wife. His thoughtful donation made it possible for the project to move forward and ensured that the equipment was given a second life by helping another family in need. Demonstrating an extraordinary commitment to service, Edsel and Frank traveled more than 160 miles to transport the stairlift to Mrs. White's home. They were joined by Worshipful Brother Mark Bruns of Aerospace Lodge #800, who volunteered his time and expertise to install a new electrical outlet required for the stairlift's operation. Together, these dedicated Brothers delivered, prepared, and installed the lift, ensuring that Mrs. White could safely access every level of her home and continue living independently. This is Freemasonry in action—Brothers uniting in service, compassion, and relief for those in need. The generosity of Jack Riley, the financial support of Aerospace Lodge #800, and the dedication of the volunteers exemplify the principles of the Fraternity and highlight the impact of OMCRC’s Masonic Volunteer Program. By working across district lines and combining their time, talents, resources, and expertise, these volunteers made a lasting difference for a member of the Masonic family. Their actions remind us that the true strength of Freemasonry lies not only in our shared values, but also in our willingness to put those values into action through philanthropy, cooperation, and service.
