A Message from the CEO Brethren, Ladies and Families, I hope this letter finds you well, enjoying this fall weather and time with loved ones and friends. Our campuses continue to provide amazing opportunities for those looking to retire and leave the yardwork and home upkeep behind. We are blessed to have a front seat watching our community members live their best lives and thrive with the peace of mind that we are there if they need anything. As always, there are many exciting changes happening at The Ohio Masonic Communities, big and small. With the repositioning of our Western Reserve Masonic community completed in 2024, we now have our sights set on repositioning our Springfield Masonic Community. At the beginning of October, we began clearing the way, literally, for our new Healthcare Center and assisted living neighborhoods. The new buildings will expand our assisted living capacity and create 24 new assisted living memory care apartments, which will be consistent with our other campuses. These changes align with the demand for services we are seeing, while replacing outdated and inefficient buildings with state-of-the-art spaces where we can provide high-quality care for many years to come. Operationally, our three campuses and resource center are providing a significant amount of care and resources throughout the state. I am happy to report that our Western Reserve Masonic Community was awarded the Best Skilled Nursing/Post Acute Care Renovation/ Repositioning award by Senior Housing News Architecture and Design Awards. This is very exciting news as there was a lot of hard work and commitment that went into completing the repositioning project at that campus. The design of this campus was made possible by way of collaboration between our staff, residents and community members, RDL Architects, Inc, Baile Senior Development, and EDI. The design’s focus was to provide a feeling of home in all care levels. The quality of care at our communities continues to produce exceptional outcomes, which is only made possible by the team of dedicated staff and their commitment to all of those we are so blessed to care for. I am happy to share that the Healthcare Centers at Western Reserve Masonic Community and Springfield Masonic Community have received national recognition as Best Nursing Homes by Newsweek for a second year in a row. This ranks our communities in the top 8% of providers in the country based on performance, recommendations of medical staff, accreditations, and resident satisfaction. To be entrusted with this responsibility is one of the greatest privileges of my life, and I am profoundly grateful for your confidence. I pledge to lead with integrity, vision, and an unwavering commitment to the Craft. Freemasonry is more than tradition; it is a living brotherhood that challenges us to become better men. Together, we are committed to the Craft - strengthening our Lodges, living our obligations, and shining Masonic light in the communities where we live and work. What inspires me most is seeing our Brethren not only upholding the values of our Fraternity, but carrying them outward through service, charity, and everyday kindness. No Grand Master travels this path alone. Our Ladies, including my wife, Colleen, are a source of strength, compassion, and grace. Their encouragement, patience, and quiet service remind us that the Masonic journey is never walked by one person, but shared by families who believe in what we do. To all our Ladies, I thank you for your support, your sacrifices, and your love of the Craft. Our Charity Focus: Veterans and First Responders This year, I am proud to focus our charitable efforts on veterans and first responders. These courageous men and women have given so much to safeguard our freedoms, protect our families, and preserve our way of life. By standing with them, we demonstrate the very heart of Freemasonry: gratitude, service, and brotherly love in action. Through this effort, we reaffirm to our communities that Ohio Freemasons are men of honor who care deeply about those who protect us all. A Message from
The Grand Secretary Brethren and Friends all, I hope this finds you and your families doing well as we give thanks for our blessings. The 216th Annual Communication is in the books. The excitement was everywhere as 1,100 Brethren and visitors converged on Sandusky, Ohio on October 24, 2025. A special thank you to the 22nd District Annual Communication committee and the Grand Lodge office staff for a job well done. It was great to see our Brethren together, enjoying time to fellowship with friends old and new, as we refreshed ourselves for the beginning of a new Masonic year. Be sure to attend your next stated meeting to learn about the legislation voting results as we remain Committed to the Craft in the year ahead. The membership renewal program is progressing very well. Emails and first-class mailings have been sent to all members resulting in more than 64% already in good standing for 2026. Make sure your membership dues are renewed by the November annual meeting and support your Lodge officers at their upcoming installation for the coming year. Grand Lodge Member Service Awards for 50-, 60-, 65-, 70-, and 75-year members were distributed to each District at the District Deputy Grand Master training session on October 25, 2025. See your DDGM to get your Service Awards for presentation before the end of the year. The Grand Secretary Zoom calls continue to be made available and have been found to be very helpful for both the office staff and Lodge Secretaries. We open with current events and training topics and conclude with a Q&A period. Our Lodge Secretaries even share a few tricks they’ve learned along the way. You can join the next bi-monthly Zoom meeting on Tuesday, November 25th. They are scheduled at 10:00am and 7:00pm on the last Tuesday of every other month. All Secretaries and Assistant Secretaries receive the Zoom link invitation via email prior to the event. I hope to see you at the next one. In observance of the holiday season, the Grand Lodge office will be closed on November 27-28 for Thanksgiving, December 24-26 in observance of Christmas, and December 31 - January 2 in observance of the New Year, returning to normal office hours on Monday, January 5, 2026. It’s an honor to serve the Grand Lodge of Ohio. Gayle, Darlene, Elora, Jim, Doug, and I are committed to our members so please call on us if we can be of any assistance. Toledo Fort Industry Lodge #144 (and Friends) Build Beds! Each year, the Brethren of Toledo Fort Industry Lodge #144, their families, and Brethren from surrounding Lodges gather to support the Let’s Build: Build-a-Bed Program! So far, they have raised over $14,000 to build beds for kids that have bedding needs! In addition, this year, they were able to build 60 beds! MWB William Carter III’s Masonic Weekend The weekend of Friday, September 12th through Sunday, September 14th saw a first in Freemasonry in Ohio! Brethren from across the state converged on Canton, Ohio to enjoy a weekend of Fellowship, Blue Lodge Degrees, and Scottish Rite Degrees! Candidates were able to meet and socialize at the Welcome Reception on Friday evening with Degree work starting Saturday morning and ending Sunday afternoon! New candidates were able to receive all three Blue Lodge Degrees to become a fully raised Master Mason. They were then able to go on and discover Scottish Rite Freemasonry by receiving the 4th, 14th, 17th, 19th, 28th, 31st, and 32nd Scottish Rite Degrees! In one weekend, these gentlemen became our Brothers and fully fledged Scottish Rite Masons as well! The Masonic Weekend ended up raising 106 new Master Masons, as well as 125 new Scottish Rite Masons, with just over 530 Masons in attendance. A truly legendary day in Ohio Masonic History!
Ohio Village Groundbreaking! Most of you know that we have temporarily closed Ohio Lodge #10 in the Ohio Village at Ohio Historical Connection in Columbus, Ohio for renovations. On September 18th, 2025, Grand Secretary, MWB Keith W. Newton, and Director of Programs, RWB Jim Hall, accepted an invitation to attend the official groundbreaking of work happening at Ohio Village. Erin Wood, CEO of Ohio Historical Connection, along with the board of trustees were present to break ground on this project! The updates will make the village more easily accessible to all who attend, with significant infrastructure upgrades and new visitor experiences! Ohio Village is scheduled to reopen in the summer of 2026; we’ll keep you updated as we receive more information on when we can reopen Ohio Lodge #10! 6 FALL 2025

Committed to Service above Self! Brother Frank Grasberger
Brother Grasberger was 19 years old when he was drafted into the Army to serve our country during World War II. He would spend three years of his life in some of the worst battles of the war. The roughest of which was the Battle of the Bulge which lasted six brutal weeks. On top of fierce fighting, the weather conditions made the campaign treacherous. Soldiers were faced with freezing rain, thick fog, deep snowdrifts, and record-breaking low temperatures. Grasberger, who was on the front lines tasked with listening to German movements for weakness, spent three straight days in a foxhole filled with water. Despite having little feeling in his feet, and nerve damage from exploding shells, he still believes we live in “the greatest country on earth!” Brother Grasberger has been a proud Mason and member of Cleveland Lodge #781 for over 59 years!
WB Lish King
Born in 1925, Brother Lish King has lived a life of servitude for our country, village, and Craft. He fought for our country during World War II, serving in the US Navy from 1943-46 aboard the USS Killen (DD – 593). Not only did Brother King serve his country, he also served his Village of New Paris, Ohio in many different aspects. He drove a school bus for the district from 19581970. He also worked for the street and water department from 1958-88 and served as the New Paris Fire Chief for a 10-year period as well! He joined Fellowship Lodge #106 on March 6th, 1973 and served as their Master in 1979. He is a proud 52-year Mason and just celebrated his 100th birthday on Sept 18th!

The Ohio Masonic Communities Resource Center
Assisting our Veterans Western Reserve Masonic Community resident Ronna Yoho spoke with our Intake Coordinator, Rachel Lancaster, and asked for assistance in finding a foldable electric wheelchair for her husband, Richard. Ronna shared that Richard was having a hard time walking to the woodshop and other activities on campus. After discovering that Richard was a veteran, Rachel was able to contact the Medina County VA and asked if they had funds to help. Unfortunately, the VA was not able to help since Richard did not serve in combat, but they did suggest applying through the Medina County Veteran Memorial Fund, a local nonprofit. The application was submitted mid-July. The Yoho’s application was approved, and the electric wheelchair was delivered and assembled by the first week of August. Richard shared he is extremely happy that he is able to continue going down to the woodshop daily and attending events throughout the building.
Back to School Program a Success! The back-to-school program was a huge success this year! The Ohio Masonic Communities Resource Center was able to help 79 children from 21 households with school supplies. We would like to send a special thanks to MVP Chris Gibbs and his family who collected donations and purchased supplies! A donation given by Pam Cass-Fiex for school supplies was sent to Chris Gibbs (MVP Volunteer/President of the 9th District Officers Association). Chris then matched the donation, totaling over $250! Chris and his children went to Walmart and purchased a load of school supplies that were utilized for Mason’s and their children across the state of Ohio in support of The Ohio Masonic Communities Resource Center Back-to School program! We were able to assemble 34 bags of supplies for families to pick up at Western Reserve Masonic Community, and others to be distributed throughout the state.

Helping Masonic Widows A group of Masonic volunteers in the 2nd District from Jefferson Lodge #90 got together on a Saturday in July to help a Masonic widow. Struggling with health problems, she can no longer maintain her flower beds and bushes. The volunteers spent the day weeding her flower beds and trimming bushes. She asked if they could maintain them as well. Bobbi Schickler, SW Ohio Community Outreach Coordinator contacted the local Lodge, Hugh L Bates #686, who said they would help her maintain her flower beds and bushes going forward. The Masonic Volunteer Program has grown to over 400 volunteers around the state! Being a part of the Grand Master’s Award this year, there has been increased interest in the program, and requests for presentations and volunteer trainings. We value these partnerships. Holiday Checklist: 3 Signs Your Aging Loved One Needs More Help For most of us, the holidays are a time to reconnect with friends and loved ones. We share meals and reminisce, creating a sense of connection and memories to cherish for years to come. As you prepare for this holiday season, think about the older adults in your life, especially those who live on their own. It could be your parents, aunts and uncles, siblings, or cousins. If your holiday plans include visiting any of your aging loved ones, here are three things you can be on the lookout for as signs that they may be starting to need more help.
HOME UPKEEP
As we get older, one of the first things that may start to get more challenging is maintaining our home. Things like keeping up with landscaping and cleaning inside may be more difficult. Look to see if certain tasks have been neglected or if things haven’t been done to the same standard your loved one once held.
MOBILITY CHANGES
It’s extremely common as we age to not get around as well as we once did. One of the first signs that mobility may be a concern is furniture surfing, using furniture for stability when walking. Watch to see how well your loved ones are able to get around and pay attention to how they navigate any stairs if necessary.
MEDICATION MANAGEMENT
Taking medications exactly as they’re prescribed is crucial to our overall health and wellbeing. Sometimes as we age, it can become harder to understand a medication’s instructions and remember to take them properly. This can be as simple as checking expiration dates and making sure refrigerated medication is appropriately stored in the fridge. If you don’t have plans to see your aging loved ones for the holidays, consider checking in on them. Ask them questions to find out how they’re managing on their own and offer ways that you and others can help.

The Healthcare Center at Western Reserve Masonic Community has been awarded the Senior Housing News Architecture and Design Award for Best Skilled Nursing/Post-Acute Care Renovation/Repositioning! This award celebrates excellence in the renovation and repositioning of Skilled Nursing and Post-Acute Care communities, including Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) and other senior living campuses. The newly completed Healthcare Center at Western Reserve Masonic Community represents a notable transformation—reimagining it into a state-of-the-art, hospitality-driven community centered on resident care and well-being.

Newsweek
Both Springfield Masonic Community and Western Reserve Masonic Community were recently recognized by Newsweek for the second year in a row. To assist older adults and their loved ones in considering care options, Newsweek and Statista partnered to rank America’s Best Nursing Homes of 2026. This year’s list recognizes 1,200 nursing homes out of 14, 752 analyzed nationwide. Both Healthcare Centers were ranked in the top 30 for 50-99 patients in Ohio. In all, only 74 of Ohio’s 924 facilities were recognized. Congratulations to the teams at Springfield Masonic Community and Western Reserve Masonic Community on being recognized with this honor!
Best of Medina
Every year, the Medina Gazette runs a Best of the Best competition. Local companies are nominated in various categories and then the voting begins. Once the votes are tallied, the best local business or organization is announced in each category. This year, Western Reserve Masonic Community was honored to win Best Assisted Living!
Best of Springfield
In early October, the Springfield News Sun announced winners of their Best of Springfield contest. Like Best of Medina, community members nominate and then vote for their favorite local organization or company. At the annual awards ceremony, Springfield Masonic Community was honored to receive the award for Best Assisted Living/Retirement/Rehab for the second year in a row!
Accolades and awards like these are always exciting. But these awards mean more. They serve as a representation that we are living our mission every day. It’s the interactions our team members have with our residents and their loved ones. It’s doing everything we can to help each of our residents live their best lives. There’s no service award for fulfilling our mission, but these awards showcase how we are providing award-winning care in award-winning buildings as we help our residents, patients, and everyone we are fortunate enough to serve thrive.
