Where does my electricity come from, and
how is electricity generated?
Join Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative for the 2023 tour of the Cardinal Power Plant along the Ohio River.
Located on the Ohio River in Brilliant, Ohio, Buckeye Power’s Cardinal Plant provides power to LMRE and the 23 other Ohio electric co-ops. With more than $1 million in environmental upgrades, it’s one of the cleanest coal-fired power plants in the world.
This free, all-day trip will depart from the cooperative’s o ce at 7 a.m. on Sept. 14 and include an exciting and informative guided tour of the plant as well as lunch and snacks provided by the co-op. The bus generally returns to LMRE’s o ce around 7 p.m.
The Cardinal Plant tour consists of a 60- to 90-minute walking tour with several flights of stairs. Members with health concerns, those who require assistance walking, or those who cannot walk more than a half-mile without resting should not take the tour. Participants must be at least 12 years old unless specifically authorized. Members are more than welcome to bring a spouse or guest. Space is limited, and seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

“I enjoyed the information received and being able to see things in person rather than just hearing about it. The trivia questions were fun and entertaining, along with being surrounded by great company!”
“As a cooperative employee, I realize that there are many things that I take for granted when it comes to how we get the power supply. The members and the trip to the Cardinal Power Plant was a real eye-opener in terms of seeing firsthand how we are getting our power supply. The steps that it takes to not only generate but also deliver the power were very interesting to see, and I was pleased with how informative the tour was.”
