information
Well, it's about time for cooler weather, sweaters, delicious food and lots of football. Being the wife of a football coach, I appreciate this season in a big way, but living in Chickasha brings on a whole new level of excitement for Fall! Although I love all of our local events, some of my favorite events happen during this season. Right around the corner is Food Truck Championship, Arts Festival, Chickasha football and Halloween! Not to mention we are one step closer to Thanksgiving, Christmas and the 30th Anniversary of the Festival of Light. With all of this to look forward to, it's hard to believe we are also anticipating the opening of our new downtown park, several new restaurants and new businesses coming to town. When you live in a city you love and you watch it taking leaps and bounds, it's easy to be a little giddy about the future. Get out this Fall and enjoy this beautiful city and all it has to offer. I'm almost certain you'll find something new to love right here in our incredible community!

BEAUTY theaboutthing

“With makeup and hair trends changing all the time, my best advice is not to worry about it! Do your thing and rock your own style!”
CASSANDRA ROBNETT
One. As the season changes it’s time to think about transitioning your summer brights to richer, moodier colors - play off of fun colors like the change of the leaves. Fall means moving to more coverage with a full foundation as well. It can be hard to match your color so try mixing your summer and winter foundations to find the perfect match during this transition period. TIPS
Two. Just like your foundation, it’s time to move a shade or two down from your shimmery bronzer to a matte, fall bronzer. Bronzer provides a sun kissed glow to your face. The trick to bronzer, especially moving into fall, is to not over-do the application and stick to the key areas of the face: slope of forehead, curve of cheeks. Less is best!
• Consider going a shade or two darker than you want to prolong your dyed look.
Okay, let’s get real for a second. Fall. Am I right ladies? What's not to love? You’ve got pumpkins, leggings, decorations and spiced coffee (if you’re into that). Now that fall is here, we can start transitioning from our summer look to a fresh new, fall look. If you are anything like me, you can use all the help you can get. So I've done the work and put together some of this years latest beauty trends and great everyday tips. Whether you are just learning how to apply makeup or wanting to improve your skills, here are some fun ways to get you feeling your best!
• Match foundation by applying to your neck.
• BLEND! • Hold your brush loosely from the bottomnot like a pencil.
SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER 2022 // 43
Don’t forget to use a big fluffy brush for a natural look. Three. Just applying bronzer by itself is a no! Finish the look by utilizing concealer first, a touch of blush and a highlight for a beautiful glow. Some experts suggest staying away from bronzer after summer, but as long as you apply it correctly you can transition to the fall with a full face of beauty. Four. When it comes to hair, fall is a great time to try something different! If you are blonde, this year is showing a lot of oaty, wheaty and golden blondes to trend. For you brunettes, copper, auburn and brown balayage are hot. Ultimately, pick a look that makes you feel good about you!
• Blend. • Get your hair healthy before adding colorit’ll last longer.
• Revive mascara with saline solution
GRILLING season
Technically “grilling season” is defined from Memorial Day to Labor Day, but really grilling can happen all year around. Luckily for us in Oklahoma, the weather stays “grilling appropriate” for the majority of the year. Grilling is practically an Olympic sport even if it’s not for you reading this, we all know someone who takes grilling very seriously.
RUSSELL DEAN THOMPSON
“As Dad always told me.. ‘don’t be afraid of adding too much seasoning. You’ll lose some when you flip your meat!’”

Getting the grill too hot and cooking at too high of a temperature. Really research out to utilize your grills vents and go for a slow and low grill technique.
SAUCE TIP
The decision can be overwhelming to decide what type of grill to purchase; gas, charcoal, Blackstone or pellet. There’s even a grill that’s Wifi compatible now, how crazy! The best course of action is to see which grill fits you best. Gas grills are convenient and easy for year-round use. Charcoal grills give the best smoky flavor. Blackstone provides a large surface to grill on. Pellet grills are known for slow cooking. Trust us, there isn't a wrong answer on which grill to get. It’s not about the grill, but about the technique that promotes you to grill master. Here are some tips to help get you there. One. Preheat your grill with the lid closed for approximately 15 minutes. This will allow you to easily clean off the cooking grate which in turn prevents your food from sticking. While grilling, it’s important to keep the lid closed as much as possible and only flip the food once. By only flipping once you allow the meat to caramelize and lock in a seared taste. Keeping the lid closed will also help prevent flare ups. Two. While grilling, it’s important to monitor your temperature. Use a timer and adjust your technique accordingly to weather and altitude conditions. For example, colder days and higher altitude will increase your cooking time. Wind also plays a factor: wind lowers gas grills temperature and raises charcoal grills. Three. To create a perfect steak, allow the meat to sit out at room temperature for about 25 mins. Putting a cold steak on the grill will increase your grill time and cause the steak to be more tough. Another great steak tip is to avoid poking or piercing the steak while cooking. This will cause liquids to release and make for a dry finished product. Try using a spatula or tongs instead. Don’t have time to cook a full steak? Cut the meat in smaller pieces and put it on skewers for a quicker cook time. If you want to grill some veggies with your meat, it’s best to add them on separate skewers to avoid overcooking the veggies.
If you are planning to add sauce to the meat, make sure and add at the last few minutes of your grill time. BURGER TIP Make a swellingratherpattyThismeatpattyindentionthumbprintintoeachtoensurethecooksevenly.willalsohelptheholditsshapethanthepattyup.
TOMISTAKECOMMONAVOID
DRY RUB TIP It’s best to add a dry rub at least 12-24 hours prior to grilling for the best results.

Small Town Stories THE HISTORY OF CHICKASHA'S
50 \\ SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER 2022
Fightin Chick Football
Thank you to Grady County Historical Society for photos and historical information.
Just like any city in the State of Oklahoma, football is deeply rooted in Chickasha. From the beginning in 1909, when the game was played on a 110 yard field and a touchdown was worth 5 points, Chickasha’s team was driven by courage, loyalty and determination. For the first few years of existence, Chickasha Football made a name for themselves. They brought home a 3-State Championship over Texas and Kansas. In 1910, Kansas refused to play the Fightin’ Chicks any longer. They were OK Champs in 1911 and runner-up in 1912 after being defeated only by Norman. Our Chicks adapted well in the 1912 season after the rules of the game changed. The field was officially taken from 110 yards to the 100 yard field we play on today. A touchdown also bumped up from 5 points to the standard 6 points we see now.

QB Club can easily be described as the Pride of Chickasha connecting the MS and HS football programs with the community. The goal of the QB Club is to provide all needs outside of the school budget like a new gator, new weight room equipment and end zone cameras - just to name a few. They also completely fund the power lifting program. Adopt a Fightin' Chick was established by the QB Club where all athletes are "adopted" by a member of the community who provides gift bags and posters for each game. In addition, the club provides lunch to all 7/8/9th & JV teams on game days and dinner for all varsity home games. QB Club provides letterman jackets to every two year athlete or manager within the program. This club is all about providing a great team experience for all athletes.
