ack Ra B e m o l c l l y e W Written By OGHS ASB On September 3, we held our first Welcome Back rally in almost one and a half years! Music was being played while students were being seated on the bleachers. To start off, Mr. Rosatto did roll calls and had every class show their spirit by cheering from the stands. There were four performances and two games. Polynesian and K-Ppop Club showed off their amazing dance moves that they've been practicing in their clubs. Cheer gave an awesome showcase of what they’re capable of for football games. Then, the band gave us a taste of some of their music that they will show off during football games. Classes competed in a sing along where everyone was able to participate by finishing lyrics to a song. It was a fun way to compete by showing off spirit. Classes also played against each other in a dizzy relay and a classic game of tug-a-war in order to earn points. Sophomores took the first win of the year making a strong start to their first rally

and Seniors won the tug-a-war tournament with the strength of the football team. Overall the first rally was successful with many more to come.

Folklórico On The Hill Written By ASSET’s Maestra Otila Torres México, colorful and full of beauty! The People, The Land, The Beaches, The Music, The Food, Culture, Roots and HISTORY!!!! In many parts of México the 16th of September will be celebrated starting the evening of the 15th at midnight with the “Grito” and through the weekend. With Covid-19, this year’s venue was smaller with limited attendees but with massive online viewers. At the celebration there was the “Grito” along with music, dancing, and lots of fireworks! (What is the Grito in Mexico? The Grito de Dolores ("Cry of/from Dolores") was the battle cry of the Mexican War of Independence, uttered on September 16, 1810, by Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a Roman Catholic priest from the small town of Dolores, near Guanajuato, Mexico.)

Mexican Independence Day (September 16th) for Oak Grove High School students began at lunch “Chill on the Hill” celebration with activities provided by the OGHS Latino Student Union championed in partnership with Maestro Raymond Martinez who connected with our newly formed ASSET’s OGHS Folklorico club/group. LSU had loteria (Mexican bingo) and karaoke along with other lawn games. ASSET’s Folklorico raised the Mexican flag with a short Mexican anthem and showcased music, movements and costumes from Jalisco, México. It was ASSET’s first school event following the lock-down and first for on campus with peers. Following the festivities, students were asked to provide a one word thought on what they felt following the showcase…. “Nervous” “Lost” “Excited” “Happy” “Satisfied” “Proud”

Collaborating with México’s Independence Day begins “Hispanic Heritage Month” For our ASSET’s Folklorico, attendees have been sent videos and biographies online this month to encourage the group to take pride in who they are. The richness of their ancestry and the cultural roots to preserve. ASSET’s Folklorico is getting ready for the Dia de Los Muertos along with the Posadas so traditional information, stories and music has been and continues to be shared at practices, online and Instagram. Folklorico meets every Wednesday 2pm-4pm in the theater. EVERYONE and ANYONE is WELCOME!!!! Stop by to pick up a treat and see what we are up to!

Mexican Independence Day Written By Maestro Juan Gómez de Reynosa, México The Independence of Mexico began on September 16, 1810, when the early morning of that day Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla made the "Grito de Dolores", a call to Mexicans to fight for their independence. The fight was fought for 11 consecutive years, during each one of its stages many important characters in the history of Mexico were assassinated; women and men who contributed to the fight. 11 years later, with the Trigarante army led by Agustín de Iturbide and Vicente Guerrero, the end of the Independence of Mexico was given on September 27, 1821. Since then, each year the Cry of Independence is carried out at the different levels of government and those in charge of leading the traditional ceremonies are the Federal Executive, governors and municipal presidents, as well as mayors. In the case of the Federal Executive, the "Grito de Dolores" for the Independence of Mexico is held in the National Palace.

The ceremony is to walk with his wife, welcome the cadets, carry the flag of Mexico, reach the balcony and give a cry before millions of Mexicans. "Long live our National Independence! Long live the Heroes who gave us homeland and freedom! Long live Hidalgo! Long live Morelos! Long live Allende! Long live Doña Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez! Long live Mexico!"

"¡Viva nuestra Independencia Nacional! ¡Vivan los Héroes que nos dieron Patria y Libertad! ¡Viva Hidalgo! ¡Viva Morelos! ¡Viva Allende! ¡Viva Doña Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez! ¡Viva México!"

HELLOOO EAGLES!! I am Victor Nguyen and I’m thrilled to be your ASB Vice President for the 2021-2022 school year!! It’s our first year back to school in-person so I’m glad to be back at the BEST school! But first...let’s get to know me. Outside of ASB, I am currently the president of Class of 2022 and the Vietnamese Student Union. With that, I also serve the California-Nevada-Hawaii Key Club District as their District News Editor (lots of fun stuff!) When I’m not doing extracurriculars, I love catching up with my friends, getting something to eat, or taking a nap :DD! Looking back at the last few years here at Oak Grove has been interesting. It’s crazy to believe that I am senior now. But, the reality is that I am trying to finish up my college applications before they become stressful. The first two months of school have been a joyride. From the Welcome Back Rally, multiple chill on the hills, to fun-filled Friday Night Lights of our home football games!! We have so many things in store for you guys, so I hope you are all looking forward to it. Enjoy the time that you have here at Oak Grove because you only get the four years of high school. If you have any questions, ASK! If you have any problems, make sure to SAY SOMETHING! I’m always here if you need anything so please don’t hesitate to reach out to me, whether it be school or not! Thank you for your time, Eagles, and I hope

to talk to you soon!

Victor Nguyen
