Dr. Carter G. Woodson first established “Black History Week” with the aim of celebrating and recognizing the overlooked accomplishments of the Black community in 1926. This week later expanded into the full month of February, which made it into the Black History month as it is known today. The Eagle Eye Committee thought it would be best to commemorate this month by acknowledging countless key Black figures whose work changed our world for the better.

Philip Emeagwali, also recognized as “The Bill Gates of Africa, ” was best known for the invention of the world’ s first massively-parallel supercomputer. The Nigerian computer scientist invented the World’ s Fastest Computer despite having dropped out of school at the mere age of 14. Despite this, Emaegwali, continued learning at home and went on to attend three different universities. He acquired master ’ s degrees in environmental engineering, marine engineering, and applied mathematics; as well as, a BS in mathematics.
