Octobers Environmental Awareness Spotlight
San Francisco’s Sinkhole Written by Nhu Nguyen
We are the Environmental Action Club, and this month, we talked about the San Francisco sinkhole. We brought awareness to this topic through its causes and effects. Our members learned that sinkholes are formed through rainwater that runs through the pores or the ground, where it absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and reacts with decaying matters to create acidic water underground. This acidic water eats away at limestone, the material that gives the ground a sturdy structure. As the acidic water eats at the limestone, it creates huge cavities underground that can break through when water breakage occurs.
Additionally, for EAC’s activity of the month, we organized a collaborative Campus Clean-Up event with Key Club, ImpactZ, ARK, and ASR! We hope to do more clean-up events in the future and see more Eagle’s come out to volunteer!
Senior Night Girl’s Tennis
Written by Kay Le On Thursday, October 19, the Oak Grove Girls’ Tennis team played their last home game against the Santa Teresa Bernards. Led by co-captains, Senior Jay Nguyen, and Junior Tiana Nguyen, Oak Grove unfortunately lost by a score of 3-4, however, they fought hard and had an amazing game. Throughout the season, the team’s morale increased with every game. With a new addition of freshman Singles 1, Laura Bueno, Oak Grove Girl’s Tennis is excited to see what amazing things the team will accomplish next year. Furthermore, 3 Oak Grove Eagles, Seniors Jay Nguyen & Kay Le, and Freshman Laura Bueno, qualified for their division BVAL’s tournament! Let’s wish them luck as they play teams from the rest of the division on November 1 at Independence High School!
For their last high school game, Oak Grove celebrated their 4 seniors, Jay Nguyen, Kay Le, Yoselin Chamorro, and Cynthia Sanchez. Spirit was high throughout senior night, and we are sad to see them leave this year. With posters, flowers, and balloons, this tear-filled senior night was definitely one to remember.
DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT
OGHS 14TH ANNUAL
Written by Sebastian Balmonte Through October 16th - 23rd, Oak Grove Athletics housed the 14th annual dodgeball tournament for all grades to watch! The teams featuring this year included The Doggy Destroyers, The ScoobyDooby Juniors, The Windmills, The Kennwards, and finally The FTCs! During that week, OG Athletics set up the field and dressed up to be stylish referees! Each day, two teams picked from a knockout-style tournament selection faced off against the other team inside the small gym at lunch! In every game, all teams battled in an intense 5v5, showcasing their fierce desire to claim the 1st place trophy! On October 23rd, the final day of the Dodgeball season, two factions, The Windmills and The Sassy Seniors, faced off in a prolonged three-round
After two hard-fought rounds, The Windmills managed to yank the seniors out of the bracket and managed to claim 1st place in OGHS's 14th Annual Dodgeball tournament! All members of the Windmills were awarded free homecoming tickets, a mystery basket gleaming with candies, and most notably, a trophy symbolizing their hard-earned victory!

On October 21, 2023, members of Oak Grove Key Club, alongside thousands of other students across the Bay, gathered at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom to participate in Fall Rally North! Our OG Key Clubbers joined fellow members of District 12 South from Milpitas, Ann Sobrato, Silver Creek, Willow Glen, Santa Teresa, Valley Christian, Pioneer, Evergreen Valley, Leland, and Yerba Buena High Schools, to compete for the coveted Spirit Stick. Although we were unable to secure the Spirit Stick this year, our Key Club members maintained high spirits throughout the event, enjoying thrilling rides and fostering connections with students from various districts!
REGION TRAINING CONFERENCE

Region Training Conference (RTC) is an annual overnight event with all the Key Clubs in Regions 9 and 17 which covers the entire Bay Area during the weekend of October 14 and October 15. Oak Grove Key Club sent 6 members and 1 advisor with one of our very own members, Kenneth Nguyen, being part of the joint region team that helped plan the event. With over 300 members in attendance, the 30th annual RTC, “HungeR-TC Games” was a success! Members across both regions had the opportunity to attend workshops, bond with other Key Clubbers, and compete in a skit and spirit competition at the campfire on Saturday night to win the Golden Spirit Stick. It was a wonderful memory for all the attendees, especially for the Oak Grove Akatsuki Clan. We hope to see you at Camp Jones Gulch next year for the 2024 Region Training Conference.

This week several colleges stopped by our campus to advertise their college to students. This comes as UC’s deadline to apply are approaching rapidly. The college fair was a success and hopefully helps seniors and future seniors start thinking about where they want to go! UC applications are due November 1st and CSU applications are due November 30th.
RED HEARTS Blood Drive

October is Dracula's favorite time of the year! Red Heart’s Club’s annual blood drive! On October 25th, the Stanford Blood Drive came to Oak Grove where numerous students and staff came to donate blood in the small gym. This event is the most impactful and important event of the 2023 fall season as donating blood help saves many lives. Students and staff were supplied with snacks as well as some complementary goods and sat back and let Stanford’s staff draw their blood. Didn’t have a chance to donate or sign up? Or even volunteer? Don’t worry! Red Hearts Club will be hosting another blood drive again spring of 2024! There will be signups for donors as well as those who would like to help volunteer. Don’t forget to read the requirements for donating and donate!

HOMECOMING RALLY
Written by Tatum Ikemoto Homecoming season is here! To kick off one of the most exciting times of the year, ASB hosted a Homecoming Rally on October 26, 2023. For the first time since the pandemic, the rally was held inside the small gym! With passionate spirit, students flooded the stands and cheered on class contestants in rally games like Basketball Musical Chairs, Dodgeball Don’t Drop the Pom, and the Staff & Student Dodgeball Game! Our Cheer team hyped up the crowd with a spooky themed group dance, and Oak Grove’s very own Poly Club maintained the energy with an amazing performance!
To end off the rally, the seniors took their last homecoming dub after wiping out the sophomores with their powerful spirit in a classic game of Finish the Lyric! As always, thank you, everyone, for participating, and we can’t wait for the next one!

A NIGHTMARE ON EAGLE LANE

On Saturday, October 28, 2023 our homecoming dance “A Nightmare on Eagles Lane” was extremely successful with spooky decorations! This thrilling event was held in midtown and half of the large gym! Attendees were able to enjoy food and refreshments from club vendors, such as ARK with delicious Mochi Donuts, OGKPOP with yummy kimbap, Robotics Club with sodas and waters, and many more! We also had Martha's Catering and Kona Ice serving their mouthwatering food, drinks, and shaved ice! All clubs sold out and vendors had a successful night!! Although homecoming did not include any performances, attendees enjoyed music and entertainment from the balloon guy and projector movie!!
We would also like to say congrats to our Homecoming King and Queen, Khristian Joseph and Alexia Ramos!! Like always, our biggest success tonight was the opportunity to take photos with friends!! We had a photo booth, which was constantly filled with a line!! We also had twinkling lights and backdrops. Homecoming is always a big hit, and we’re glad to see many people attend and enjoy it!!

Written by Sebastian Balmonte On October 31st, Oak up their stands for the Grove housed their annual teachers and janitors to Halloween fest for clean up. With another everyone to see through 4- year of success ASB 6 p.m.! This year, families would like to express their and students gathered in gratitude to the clubs who and out of the R-building came out to help fulfill to participate in this year's our annual traditions!! fest. Various clubs such as This Halloween fest was a Pre-Med, BSU, and Impact huge success even with Z managed stands and the location change and gave out candy to those additon of new clubs!! If who participated in their you missed this year's stationed game! For fest, then there is always example, Pre-Med housed next year's fest to visit! the pumpkin bowling stand and gave out candy depending on how many pins were knocked down. After 6 p.m., families went to and prepared their kids for trick or treating while students and clubs cleaned OG Pre-Med!!
