Known for his distinctive style and heartwarming subject matter, Mackenzie’s latest creation is just that... “Stronger Together,” depicts a duffle character and loyal canine companion standing side by side, sheltering under a symbolic red heart.

The sculpture is a celebration of the special bond that can exist between humans and animals. The two of them depicted as equals, with the figure proudly holding the stem of a tall heart covering them both with love. The sense of closeness and mutual support between the two is palpable and touching.

As its name suggests, “Stronger Together” also carries a message of unity and resilience.

In a world where people can often feel disconnected and alone, the sculpture is a reminder that we are all stronger when we come together and support one another.

The centerpiece of the sculpture is the oversized heart held by the duffle character. The stem of the heart is intricately crafted, while the heart itself is painted in Mackenzie’s signature soft, warm red that evokes a feeling of comfort and joy.

The heart symbolises the deep and enduring connection that exists between the duffle character and his dog, as well as the bond that unites all of us as human beings.

Mackenzie started creating “StrongerTogether” just before the covid lockdown of 2020, as a result it took a much longer time than usual to get this piece finished.

The sculpture is completely hand painted to give a unique depth and dimension and is testament to the artist’s ability to create authentic and meaningful work.

Thorpe’s use of resin as a medium adds an ethereal quality to the sculpture,

aesthetically Mackenzie wanted a big dominant heart to symbolise the importance of love as a uniting force.

As we continue to navigate post pandemic life, “Stronger Together” is a gentle reminder of the power of love and togetherness and of arts ongoing ability to lift us up.

The process of creating a resin sculpture typically involves several steps, including:

Design

Mackenzie creates the concept for the sculpture through sketches.

Armature and sculpting

An armature, which is a framework for the sculpture, is created using wire. This provides a structure for the sculpture and ensures it is stable, clay is then applied to the armature and modelled.

Mold Making

A mold is created from the final model using silicone or other materials.

Resin casting

Resin is mixed with a hardener and then poured into the mold, which causes the resin to harden and become solid. The mixture is then poured into the mold. Once the resin has hardened, the sculpture is removed from the mold.
