To celebrate our first, proudly feminist show from December 1978, Off the Wall Gallery’s 15th Annual Juried Exhibition and 40th Anniversary Show seeks outstanding art from cis/trans/ gnc women in all possible media now through October 18.

The jury will prioritize work priced under $300 and—in the spirit of that first show and spirit of the moment—work that speaks to struggle and resistance, freedom and enfranchisement, and the special power of art to express a dream, help realize it and inspire others in the process.

By “all possible media,” we mean anything at all, encompassing 2D, 3D and multimedia. This includes paintings, drawings and photographs; digital creations; work in textile and assemblage; sculpture of all kinds; and work sourced from fine art materials or found objects.

The jury will accept artists based on the quality of the work as presented electronically and a brief, two-sentence statement to the jury that should, if applicable, capture the themes above.

All submissions must meet two size requirements: 2D work when framed must be no larger than 48 inches in combined dimensions (height plus width), while 3D work must fit easily in our case.

You must supply images on disc or flash drive, together with titles, framed dimensions, media, prices, a statement and an entry fee of $5 per work. No entries of actual work will be accepted.

DEADLINES & KEy DATES

Failure to meet the deadlines listed below can result in rejection of accepted pieces and forfeiture of prizes. All shipping and transportation costs are the responsibility of the artist or any parties acting on behalf of the artist.

Thursday, October 18, 2018 A completed entry, including digital images, a list of titles, media, framed sizes and prices, as well as a two-sentence statement to the jury speaking to your artwork, must be received on disc or flash drive by 12 midnight at Dirty Frank’s with sufficient cash payment for all entries ($5 per work).

Thursday, November 1 If your entry is accepted, you will be notified by email on or before this date, at which time you will receive all contractual and logistical information.

Saturday, November 10 Physical work must be delivered wired and ready to hang/install at Off the Wall Gallery (NE Corner, 13th & Pine, Philadelphia) between 11 a.m. and 12 noon.

Sunday, November 18 The Opening Reception will take place from 4 to 7 p.m., including the announcement of more than $500 in cash awards, made at our jury’s discretion. In addition, the Mary-Rowe Memorial Best of Show Award winner will be invited to headline our 2019 Autumn Invitational.

Saturdaty, December 29 The exhibition closes; all unsold work must be picked up between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., or it will go into paid storage (fees begin at $40 per work).

You may submit as many works as you wish at $5 per work.

Jurying will take place from digital images on disc or flash drive. The following criteria apply to all submissions: Size your images properly. Please do your best to limit each file to one megabyte or less. Optimally, you should should submit JPGs that are 1000 pixels on the longest dimension.

Title your images clearly, with names that make sense and correspond to actual titles.

Include all the information we need (so we don’t have to return to you with questions!)—titles, framed dimensions, media, prices and a statement speaking to your work.

Please note that we retain all files, on the assumption that the disc or flash drive on which the digital images have been submitted is not unique in any way and does not need to be returned.

SALES

The artist agrees that all work exhibited is for sale. Prices must be clearly stated and cannot change after acceptance. We will encourage sales and retain a 30-percent commission on all work sold.

Acceptance and any jury awards will become null and void if the Gallery deems the artist is not acting in the best faith.

We will take into account failure to submit accurate information, late delivery, work not matching the submission or not wired and ready to hang, and deviations from agreed-upon pricing or policy.

Most entries are dropped off. To do so, come to Dirty Frank’s between 11 a.m. and 1:45 a.m. (last call) seven days a week. Entries received after last call at the end of Thursday, October 18, 2018 will not be accepted under any circumstances. Please remit cash payment with your entry.

Art not sold must be picked up only on Saturday, December 29 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., unless prior arrangements have been made. A $40-per-month storage fee will automatically apply to each work not picked up accordingly.

Off the Wall Gallery does not carry insurance on exhibited work. By submitting this entry, you are accepting the following standard Waiver of Liability statement included in all Off the Wall artist contracts: I, the submitting artist, understand that neither the management nor any employee or volunteer of Dirty Frank’s Bar or Off the Wall Gallery is responsible for any damage to work while participating in this exhibition.
