WordsbySharmaineRegalado

Highlighting immense determination and their team’s strong bond, the College of Teacher Education (CTE) outdistanced seven competing units with 13 championship titles today, April 30, in the athletic events held at Ramon M. Durano Sr. Memorial Sports Complex, Danao City.

CTE anchored a strong finish with a total of 13 championship titles, six (6) second-place spots, and four (4) third-place rankings in the running, throwing, and jumping events.

Freshman Godwin Mascardo Fuentes (Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education) of CTE dominated the oval, securing three championship titles in the 1500-meter run (5:39.41), 800-m run (2:39.61) and in the team’s 4x400-m relay (4:30.73).

Moreover, he disclosed that he suffered a leg injury for the past four months and how that did not stop him from relaying his unbeatable skills in the 1500-meter dash, leaving his competitors behind with a record of 5 minutes and 39 seconds.

Fuentes furthered that he

Meanwhile, CTE’s Angelyn Potot (Bachelor of Early Childhood Education I) outran her opponents in the women’s 400-meter run (1:21.30) and 800-meter run (3:18.19).

“... we did whatever it takes bahala’g maunsa na, basta kay go for gold jud,” she expressed, furthering how their coach told them not

With their groovy performance, the Cebu Normal University (CNU)College of Nursing and Allied Health Services (CNAHS) triumphed among seven competing units in the Street Dance Competition held this afternoon at the Idea and KnowledgeCenter(IKC).

The nine Nightingale dancers exuded charisma and stage presence which earned

them cheers from the crowd of Normalites from the different units.

In an interview with Ang Suga, team captain Anton Bolanio (Bachelor of Science in Nursing II) highlighted that surviving the challenges they faced in preparing for the competition was a matter of sacrifice and compromising for each other.

“... [our schedules are] very complicated man god… like one section is gonna go on duty while the other [section] will go

for lectures… like lahi-lahi jod among time so it’s really difficult for us to meet,” he expressed.

Bolanio also added that they were nervous because there were two more opposing units compared to last year’s competition as a result of the division of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS).

“... Ang amo lang jod [nga goal] is we are able to showcase our very best and we’re able to deliver a performance with no

regrets,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the College of Law, Public Governance, and Safety (CLPGS) was hailed as the second placer followed by the College of Teacher Education (CTE) in third.

The CNAHS will be performing once again during the Panagsangka 2024 Festival King and Queen on Thursday, May 2, along with the Contemporary Dance champion. §

Subsequently, representatives from each unit joined in the lighting of the friendship urn, alongside arnis player Trixie Mary Lofranco (Bachelor of Physical Education I), who clinched the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games gold medal.

Meanwhile, Bridgette Niña Teves, an arnis player from CNU-Medellin, led the Oath of Sportsmanship, where athletes took an affirmation to uphold the spirit of fair play

The CNU air was filled with colors as student leaders from each unit initiated the confetti and banner drop at the Academic Center for Arts and Sciences (ACAS) Building and Learning Resource Center (LRC) simultaneously.

Afterward, bearing their unit’s name, seven pairs of the Festival King and Queen candidates ramped up and introduced themselves on the Centennial stage.

Themed as a classic Filipino fiesta, the winning team cleverly incorporated traditional children’s games in their act, further filling the hall with lighthearted cheer.

Along with the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences (CNAHS), College of Teacher Education (CTE), and CNU-Balamban, CCAS amused the crowd with its folk dance-centric performance, even serving plates of pancit to the judges.

On the importance of promoting culture, CCAS dancer and choreographer Mark Brendon Saavedra (Bachelor of Arts in Communication specializing in Film Media I) shared with Ang Suga that he wanted to impart his skills to his fellow dancers and bring cultural dances back into the mainstream.

“Naka-experience sad ko’g mga cultural dances, so mao ra sad akong ganahan itudlo sa akong mga dancers…Unta nga atong mabalik ang culture [dances], diri sad ta mag-focus kay karon naghiphop na ang tanan…kay ma-boring-an sa folk dance,” he said.

Additionally, Saavedra, a Kudyapi Folkloric Ensemble trainee, confessed that the group had only a week to prepare, by which they had gathered ideas from friends.

8-8 clash.

Consequently, CNU-Medellin's surge recedes, letting them be trashed by CTE's catapult, resulting in a 12-16 shortfall in the last two quarters.

In an interview with Ang Suga, CTE player Rayvelyn June Mendoza (Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Science II) expressed the amount of pressure she felt in securing the win.

"Masud sa akong mind basin akoy maka-pildi unya wala koy alamag sa basketball... kay na-witness nako unsa ang effort sa akong team syempre nag-put pod ko og effort na makadaog sad ug magpadayon [mi] na mahimong champion," she said.

On the other hand, the CTE men's team gush CLPGS's momentum by

chipping a 10-3 decisive lead battle.

CLPGS tried to ransack CTE's tactics but failed to secure a win in the first quarter due to multiple technical fouls.

CTE's force continued in the remaining rounds, suppressing CLPGS in a 13-7, 26-11 array.

Along with CTE, the College of Computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Sciences (CCAIS) men's team will proceed to the next round after defeating the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences (CNAHS), 21-15.

Meanwhile, the women's team of CLPGS will advance to the next bracket after conquering the College of Culture, Arts, and Sports (CCAS) finesse in a 13-10 slate. §

CLPGS triumphs in Saludo

In a historic moment, the Cebu Normal University (CNU) - College of Law, Public Governance, and Safety (CLPGS) ended the three-year streak championship title of CNU-Medellin in the Saludo competition earlier this morning at the CNU grounds.

Carrying their units’ names, eight competing units of Panagsangka 2024 represented their respective colors with loud cheers and chants.

In an interview with Ang Suga, CLPGS futsal player Joyce Tabura Villacarlos (Bachelor of Science in Psychology II) shared the

team category.

Highkicks and tricky setups made Cebu Normal University (CNU) - Balamban pose strong four wins and no losses on the first day of the sepak takraw eliminations game yesterday afternoon, April 30, at the Ramos Gym, Brgy. Cogon, CebuCity.

Only the College of Teacher Education (CTE), College of Computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Sciences (CCAIS), College of Law, Public Governance, and Safety (CLPGS), CNU-Medellin, and CNU-Balamban are the teams competing for this year's sepak takraw.

The team category went on first as CNU-Balamban and CTE showcased power kicks and insane roll spikes on three regus as per regulations in the team category.

CNU-Balamban’s winning moves and kicks continued to dominate in the court during the third regu, bagging another 2-0 (15-6, 13-15), 3-0 for the team category.

Units engage for regu category Emerging in game two were CLPGS and CCAIS with a seesaw of leading scores at the same time left and right faults and violations with little to no rallies but in the end, CLPGS reigned victoriously, 2-0 (17-14, 15-13).

Subsequently, all eyes were set on CNU-Medellin and Balamban for game three as they showed the crowd jaw-dropping kicks and almost impossible saves.

The takraw ball barely touched the ground as it stayed in the air almost all the time during their long rallies, boasting both team’s defense and offense.

preparations they had faced.

"We practice until 7 PM para ma-finalize ang choreo[graphy]. We really gave our all, [and we were] expecting to win because we saw our efforts and gave our best shot," she stated.

Villacarlos furthered that the team had faced obstacles at first but due to the encouragement of their focal chairperson and the support of the organizational mayors, they were able to pull it off.

Meanwhile, the College of Medicine (COM) and CNUBalamban snatched the first and second runner-up titles, respectively. §

Establishing their leading post came Balamban with a clean 2-0 (15-10, 15-10) feat in the first regu, 1-0 in the team category.

CTE barely kicked back in the first set of the second regu claiming it with a score of 13-15, making the tides in favor of them.

Meanwhile, breaking through CTE’s defense was a block coming from CNU-Balamban’s striker which made the crowd beamed with amusement, closing the second set back to their side, 1513.

Wasting no room for a potential regu steal from CTE, CNUBalamban kept their lead small yet consistent in the third set.

They managed to make the margin bigger to a six-point lead, 15-9, claiming the second regu 2-1 (13-15, 15-13, 15-9), 2-0 in the

Despite the tight rally, CNUBalamban remained steadfast, ending the regu 3-0 (15-12, 10-15, 15-9). The win marked CNUBalamban’s fourth win with no losses, so far.

“Maintaining this pace will require us to stay focused and sharp during games…just like sa among gi buhat ganina, og maka momentum ang kontra gamiton namo ang time out para maka buhat mi ug lain na strategy and adjustments,” said CNUBalamban team captain Edmar Avila in an interview with Ang Suga.

Game 4 of CTE and CLPGS marked the end of sepak takraw day one of elimination in which CTE won, 2-0 (15-12, 15-9).

The teams will continue with the eliminations today, May 1. §
