Gianluca Milesi Principal Via Pancaldo 4, 20129 Milano 475 Kent Avenue, 11211, Brooklyn, New York gianluca milesi architecture: www.gianlucamilesi.com , www.science-architecture.com office@gianlucamilesi.com Born the 30th of June 1962, in 1987 graduates in Architecture at tte Politecnico di Milano with full marks and honors with the thesis “Vertical Dimension, Metropolitan Utopia”, under the guidance of Vittoriano Viganò. After the graduation he collaborates from 1988 to 1991 with the office of Vittoriano Viganò, working on several projects, such as the partial re-design of Parco Sempione in Milan, the construction of the project of the new building of the Politecnico di Milano, residential buildings projects and international competitions projects. In 1991 he collaborates with Bob Noorda and Achille Castiglioni at the organization and the cure of “A come Architettura, Vittoriano Viganò” an exhibition held at the Politecnico di Milano and travelling through United Sates and South Africa and on the relative catalogue and book edited by Electa publisher, both dedicated to Vittoriano Viganò work. During these years he is assistant professor at the Politecnico di Milan, teaching a studio on theaters and events architecture and he writes articles for “Spazo & Società” directed by Giancarlo De Carlo, ”L’Arca” , “Parametro” and other architectural magazines. After few years of work as a professional architect with his own practice in Milan, designing and building residential projects and interiors, participating several International competitions obtaining an Honorable Mention for “Big Foot”, a competition for the new Santa Monica (California) Stadium, in 1997 he moves to New York City, where he colaborates with Peter Eisenman and Eisenman Architects in 1997 and 1998, working mostly at the Staten Island Institute of Arts and Sciences, on the University of Phoenix Stadium and at the IIT University Campus International Competition. In 2000 he has been selected by Massimilano Fuksas for the Venice Biennale Exhibition and his work is part of the Catalogue “On Line” edited by Marsilio Editore. After occasional collaborations with Imrey Culbert sudio and DVA Architects, in 2001 he opens his own practice in New York City, developing several projects for private residences, interior projects, participating architectural competitions and developing projects of research and experimentations based on the application of the digital paradigma on architecture and design. In these years he has been visiting critic at Pratt Institute and Columbia University in New York and finalist for a tenure track teaching position at Rice University in Houston, Texas. In 2003 he writes with Aurelia Dupouilch ‘New York the Gap’ a guide book on contemporary architecture in New York City published by Testo e Immagine and Marsilio publishers. In May 2003 a solo exhibition: ‘Spaced Out, Gianluca Milesi, architectural exercises’, has been held at SESV (University of Architecture of Florence) in Florence and a catalogue has been published by Mandragora.. In 2006 he is the curator of the architectural section of “Mixedmedia”, an exhibition and event on electronic culture held in Milan at the Hangar Bicocca and cures the general design of the exhibition with particular attention to the architectural section. In 2006 his research work “Science-architecture”, collecting experimental and theoretical works form 1999 t0 2006 is exhibited under a website form at the “Art of Italian Design” an exhibition about the work of artists and designers in Italy since the beginning of the century held in Athens and cured by Alessandro e Francesco Mendini. Since 2006 he is working mostly in Milan, where he develops projects for residential buildings, industrial buildings (hubs for TNT logistic company), interiors for building renovation and additions, private houses and commercial spaces such as the a_mi bar in Milan, awarded with several prizes and international, publications, the chmpagnerie in Porto Cervo, Sardinia and others. At the same time he is involved with architectural competitions receiving several mentions and wins international competitions (Kernel Festival Open Calls, Temporary Architecture, Desio, Milan, Italy, 2011, 2 temporary installations in the Park of Villa Tittoni Traversi) and web international competitions (20+10+X Architecture Awards 2nd Cycle, Coca-Cola building, 2008/2009) . Since 2012 he designs objects of industrial design, with a particular approach to the design object as a form of art, beside being an industrial product and he starts a collaboration with furniture producers.
