LETTER FROM THE

VP OF EDUCATION

Summertime presents a unique opportunity for children, families, and educators to engage in learning experiences free from the daily demands of the school year. It’s a time to explore, connect, and grow.

Recent studies reveal that over 275,000 Oklahoma children would participate in afterschool programs if one were available to them. Yet over 98,000 children are left unsupervised between the hours of 3pm and 6pm. Their parents, hardworking Oklahomans, are actively seeking ways to nurture their children’s natural curiosity and love of learning despite the challenges.

As Oklahoma’s public media and education agency, OETA is proud to serve as a bridge between families and meaningful, accessible educational opportunities. Our work is possible thanks to the powerful partnerships we share with organizations equally committed to supporting Oklahoma’s youngest citizens.

This summer, children across the state will participate in hands-on STEM camps inspired by the PBS KIDS series Ready Jet Go! In select communities, parents and caregivers will join Family and Community Learning workshops designed to strengthen the parent-child relationship and deepen engagement with educational content.

And for educators and learners alike, PBS LearningMedia remains a vital, on-demand resource—offering thousands of high-quality, curriculum-aligned materials accessible anytime, anywhere.

Thank you for your continued support in making learning possible—for all Oklahomans, in every season.

With gratitude,

VIEWER COMMENTS

I watch PBS every day and genuinely enjoy the programming. Please keep the great content coming!

“ I support OETA however I can because it offers the best in television—from news and nature to Masterpiece and children’s shows—always top-quality, thoughtful, and enriching content.

We appreciate the weekly “What to Watch” email—it helps us plan and record the shows we’re interested in.

THE REAL RENAISSANCE:

RIVALRY, POWER, AND THE ART THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

OETA brings viewers deep into Italy’s golden age of art this month with Renaissance: The Blood and The Beauty, a three-part series exploring the lives of Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and Raphael. These three legendary artists didn’t just shape the future of art, they competed, struggled, and survived during one of the most dangerous and politically charged times in European history.

The series begins in Florence with the Pazzi Conspiracy, an attempted assassination that plunged the city into chaos and launched Michelangelo’s early career. From there, viewers trace how each artist rose to fame, Leonardo with his scientific curiosity and unfinished masterpieces, Raphael with his speed, charm, and papal commissions, and Michelangelo, driven by perfectionism and defiance, who ultimately painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling and The Last Judgment.

Told through the reflective voice of an older Michelangelo, portrayed by Charles Dance, the story blends history, art, and personal drama. Commentary from contemporary artists like David LaChapelle, Alison Lapper, and Antony Gormley shows how these works still shape modern culture.

More than a history lesson, Renaissance: The Blood and The Beauty is about the high-stakes world behind the paintings: rivalries, politics, and the relentless pursuit of greatness.

Premieres Tuesday, July 8 at 8 PM. New Episodes July 15 and July 22

LEONARDO
MICHELANGELO
RAPHAEL

Season 2 of The Human Footprint continues this July on OETA with episodes that dive deep into how human innovation, ambition, and survival instincts have shaped the planet. Host Shane Campbell-Staton travels the globe to examine the ripple effects of our choices, from the rise of the supermarket to the global cotton trade. He explores our bond with dogs, the challenges of invasive species, and humanity’s relentless quest to control water. Along the way, he meets farmers, scientists, and locals across continents who reveal how our footprint affects every corner of the Earth.

SUNDAY

DramaS

This July, OETA’s Sunday night dramas deliver rich characters, high stakes, and unforgettable storytelling. In Patience, a brilliant but misunderstood autistic woman forms an unlikely bond with a detective who recognizes her rare gift for uncovering hidden connections. Grantchester brings more mystery and emotional depth as Geordie

and Reverend Alphy navigate crime, family, and secrets. Sisi: Austrian Empress continues with political intrigue and personal turmoil as Sisi finds her voice amid imperial pressure. And in Miss Friman’s War, Swedish women fight for justice and equality in a patriarchal society, where friendship is tested by romance and reform.

NO RECIPE FOR A ROSE ROCK

Prepare to be captivated as Gallery America spotlights acclaimed Oklahoma sculptor Klint Schor, whose bold, mixed-media works push the boundaries of form and material. From “The Kiss” in downtown OKC to his striking new piece, “No Recipe for a Rose Rock,” Schor blends art, architecture, and function.

His climbable “Grasshopper” sculpture doubles as a jungle gym, reflecting his playful, practical approach. With a creative process shaped by budget and purpose, Schor brings life and meaning to public places, elevating landscapes and connecting communities through imaginative, site-specific design.

Watch as sparks fly and ideas take shape in this intimate exploration of an artist redefining sculpture for a new generation.
