Director, OETAThis December we are excited to feature three incredible live music programs on OETA. We kick things off with a star-studded special featuring country music superstar Reba McEntire. The “My Chains Are Gone” special offers fans a long-requested recording of Reba’s 2017 first ever solo headlining show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Featuring special guests Trisha Yearwood, Kelly Clarkson and The Isaacs, the special combines footage from that historic night along with newly captured performances from earlier this year.
“My Chains Are Gone” is the perfect title for this special because my chains ARE gone,” says Reba. “I rely on my faith so much every day. There’s freedom in knowing that I don’t have to figure it out myself.” Hosted by Gospel music legend Bill Gaither, this special finds Reba lending her unmistakable voice to classic hymns and newly written songs of hope.
Immediately following “My Chains Are Gone ” is a never-before-seen concert from one of America’s most beloved country music artists, Willie Nelson. With a career spanning more than seven decades, Nelson’s live shows are legendary, and this show is a perfect example.
In February of 1984, Nelson performed in Tokyo to kick off a five-city tour that marked his first time playing in Japan, showing how global his appeal had become.
The first shows were at the Budokan, the legendary martial arts hall; the concert was recorded and filmed for broadcast but was released as a laserdisc, only in Japan. The video was never seen anywhere else, and the audio was never released — until now. The audio has been lovingly remixed by Willie’s longtime band member Mickey Raphael and the broadcast version includes 19 songs with an amazing collection of hits.
Rounding out the evening, we bring you an unforgettable performance from those classic English rockers “The Who” with “The Who Hits 50! Live ”. For over 50 years, The Who have been at the forefront of rock music. Their performances today remain as visceral as ever, and they still stand true to their badge of honor as “the loudest rock group ever.” This 2015 performance filmed at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall was staged to benefit the Teenage Cancer Trust charity. The band performs a mountain of classic hits, including “My Generation,” “Who Are You,” “Behind Blue Eyes,” and many more extraordinary hits as well as sections from groundbreaking albums Tommy and Quadrophenia.
Watch all three of these unforgettable music performances on Saturday, December 3 starting with Reba’s “ My Chains Are Gone ” at 6:30 pm, followed by “ Willie Nelson: Live at Budokan” at 8 pm, and “The Who Hits 50! LIVE ” starting at 9:30 pm on OETA and on-line at OETA.tv/live.
Sunday, December 4 • 5:30 pm
