Αντί σπονδής, θα ήθελα να ευχαριστήσω τον Albert Camus για την έμπνευση, την αρχαία ελληνική μυθολογία για τα σύμβολα, την τραγωδία για την δομή, το ήθος και τη διάνοια, τη λαϊκή σοφία για τον λόγο, τη Nina Simone για την απόγνωση, τον Ρένο Αποστολίδη για τη διδασκαλία, τους Sex Pistols για την «φασαρία», τον H. Berlioz για την «Φανταστική συμφωνία», τον F.G. Lorca για «Tο Τραγούδι της Ξεραμένης Πορτοκαλιάς» και τον Κ. Παλαμά για την σύνθεση όλων των παραπάνω.

Πριν ξεκινήσει ο δίσκος, πατάμε το replay. Τραγική ειρωνεία. Όλα αρχίζουν με τον προδιαγεγραμμένο θάνατο. Το μοιρολόι απαραίτητο στην αρχή και στο τέλος της γιορτής. Της ζωής. Μια πορεία μέσα σε ένα παράλογο και αντεστραμμένο σύμπαν. Μια πορεία προς τη συνειδητοποίηση. Σκληρή και βίαιη μέσα και έξω. Με την ευχή να μην τον αλλάξουν οι καταστάσεις, να μείνει ο εαυτός του, να μην ανήκει. Με απόλυτη συνείδηση. Το κάθε βήμα δικό του, το ίδιο και ο Βράχος του. Μια πορεία που λίγο πριν από το κάθε τέλος της βεβηλώνει με τον πιο ασυγχώρητο τρόπο ό,τι πιο πολύτιμο πρεσβεύει η Αρχή που τον τιμωρεί. Την Κορυφή την Άριστη. Μόλις ένα βήμα πριν. Η πτώση απαραίτητη, αναγκαία και η τιμωρία δεν είναι πια τιμωρία. Και πάντα πέφτει πίσω, ξανά και ξανά με χαρά στο μηδέν… στο άπειρο... Ο Σίσυφος. Σοφία Λαμπροπούλου

Η Σοφία Λαμπροπούλου, δεξιοτέχνης στο κανονάκι και συνθέτης, έχει αναπτύξει έναν ξεχωριστό και προσωπικό ήχο συγχωνεύοντας τους κόσμους της Ελληνικής λαϊκής παράδοσης, της Ανατολικής Μεσογείου, της κλασικής Οθωμανικής, Μεσαιωνικής, Πειραματικής και Σύγχρονης μουσικής. Παρόλο που έχει ως βάση την κλασική μουσική παιδεία, έκανε πλήρη στροφή μετά την πρώτη επαφή της με το κανονάκι. Το 2003 ολοκλήρωσε τις σπουδές της στη βυζαντινή μουσική και στη συνέχεια μετακόμισε στην Κωνσταντινούπολη για να εμβαθύνει στη μελέτη της Οθωμανικής μουσικής, αλλά και στην τεχνική του οργάνου. Ως σολίστ, συνεργάζεται συχνά με παγκοσμίου φήμης μουσικούς διαφόρων παραδόσεων από την Αφρική, την Ευρώπη και τη Μέση Ανατολή. Όταν δεν ταξιδεύει, συνθέτει μουσική για ταινίες ή ντοκιμαντέρ και παραδίδει Masterclasses στο κανονάκι και την ελληνική λαϊκή μουσική. Μετά από χρόνια συνεργασίας με τον κιθαρίστα Βασίλη Κετεντζόγλου, το Butterfly, το πρώτο άλμπουμ τους ως ντουέτο, κυκλοφόρησε από την Odradek Records, το 2019. Αυτή τη στιγμή η Σοφία μοιράζει το χρόνο της ανάμεσα στη Βιέννη και την Αθήνα.

Η πεντατονία ως παγκόσμιο και αρχετυπικό ιδίωμα κάνει αυτό τον θρήνο πανανθρώπινο. Η τραγωδία έχει ήδη ξεκινήσει μαρτυρώντας το τέλος και το τέλος δίνει τη θέση του στην αρχή. Τραγική ειρωνεία… Σε κάθε περίπτωση: Αρχή και Τέλος ένα. Όλα τα δέντρα της αυγής δροσιά είναι γιομισμένα και μένα τα ματάκια μου δακρύζουν τα καημένα. Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἦν...

Sex Pistols’ cover μουσική: Sex Pistols (Anarchy in the UK και God save the Queen των Glen Matlock, Johnny Rotten, Paul Cook and Steve Jones ) Το “Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἦν…” προκύπτει από την ενοποίηση των κομματιών Anarchy in the UK και God save the Queen των Sex Pistols, αλλά είναι παράλληλα κι ένα παιχνίδι με τις λέξεις. Η διασκευή μεταλλάσσει ένα κατά βάση “άγριο” κομμάτι σε παιδικό τραγούδι και σου ζητά να δεις πίσω από τη “φασαρία”. Οι στίχοι (αν τους ξέρεις) πλανώνται καθόλη τη διάρκεια στην ατμόσφαιρα θέλοντας να θυμίζουν τη βία αυτή που επιθυμεί να γίνει ανάμνηση και να βρει το κατάλληλο έδαφος για να μεταλλαχθεί σε δημιουργικό γκρέμισμα. Αν η ενσυναίσθηση σου το επέτρεπε, θα τα είχες δεις όλα εξαρχής, παρόλη την ένταση. Το “No future” της κατάληξης δηλώνει ότι “Ένας άνθρωπος χωρίς ελπίδα, με συνείδηση της κατάστασής του, δεν ανήκει πια στο μέλλον” (Αλμπέρ Καμύ, Ο μύθος του Σισύφου, μτφρ. Νίκη Καρακίτσου-Ντουζέ, Μαρία ΚασαμπάλογλουΡομπλέν, Καστανιώτης, Αθήνα 2005).

Το sabâ του ανδρειωμένου Τραγούδι: Ελένη Χρήστου

Sabâ (sabah) σημαίνει πρωί. Είναι επίσης, μακάμ (makam), δηλαδή, μία κλίμακα της Οθωμανικής και Αραβικής μουσικής παράδοσης. Το κομμάτι είναι γραμμένο σε makam Sabâ. Στον αμανέ η λαϊκή σοφία ως άλλος χορός της αρχαίας τραγωδίας θέτει τα όρια. Ο Σίσυφος ανεβαίνει βήμα - βήμα την πλαγιά κουβαλώντας το βράχο του. Πρέπει να σπάσει τον κώδικα και να αισθανθεί, να ζήσει και να καταλάβει σε βάθος αυτά που εμφανίζονται μπροστά του. Ανακαλύπτει ποιος θέλει να γίνει και ο βράχος του έχει ήδη αρχίσει να βαραίνει στην ανηφόρα. Τ’ αντρειωμένου τ’ αρματα δεν πρέπει να πουλιώνται, μον’ πρέπει τους ‘ς την εκκλησιά κ’ εκεί να λειτουργιώνται, πρέπει να κρέμονται ψηλά σ’ αραχνιασμένο πύργο, να τρώει η σκουριά το σίδερο κ’ η γης τον αντρειωμένο. Κυκλοθυμία

Κυκλοθυμία: (η) ουσ. [<κύκλος + θυμός>] Βασική ψυχολογική κατάσταση του ανθρώπου που έχει βαθιά γνώση και πίστη στο δικό του αυτονόητο σε ένα περιβάλλον που αυτό θεωρείται παράλογο. Η σύγκρουση αυτή τον καταδικάζει σε μία αέναη ψυχική ανισορροπία. “Το Παράλογο αποκτά νόημα μόνο όταν δε συναινούμε σε αυτό.” (Αλμπέρ Καμύ, Ο μύθος του Σισύφου)

Δ.Ε.Ι.Τ.Μ.Ε.Χ.Τ.Α.

Τα αρχικά δε σημαίνουν τίποτα ή σχεδόν τίποτα. Ο ήρωας έχει πλήρη συνείδηση του προορισμού του. Η έκσταση τον καταβάλει. Χορός πριν από την τελική πράξη. Λύτρωση. Κάθαρση. Προετοιμασία για γκρέμισμα. Ό,τι συμβεί από εδώ και πέρα είναι ήδη προκαθορισμένο και απόλυτα συνειδητό.

Ο Γκρεμιστής

ποίηση: Κωστής Παλαμάς, «Δειλοί και Σκληροί Στίχοι» (1928) Τραγούδι: Χριστίνα Μαξούρη Το κομμάτι ξεκινάει με εναλλάξ χτυπήματα από το μπάσο και το τσέλο. Ο Γκρεμιστής περπατάει αργά και σταθερά σίγουρος γι’ αυτό που ετοιμάζεται να κάνει. Όλη του η πορεία μέχρι εκεί του έχει μάθει πάρα πολλά. Η βία του έχει μεταλλαχθεί. Αυτός ο “βλαστός της νύχτας”, είναι έτοιμος να επιβάλλει - ως άλλη Νέμεσις - την ισορροπία. Τολμάει να “καταστρέφει” συνδυάζοντας “νου και καρδιά και χέρι”. Ο ορισμός της δημιουργίας, διότι “δημιουργώ σημαίνει δίνω μορφή στη μοίρα μου” (Αλμπέρ Καμύ, Ο μύθος του Σισύφου). Το γκρέμισμα περνάει πια στη σφαίρα του συμβολισμού. Το φως και το σκοτάδι συνεχίζουν να συνυπάρχουν. Κάνει αναδρομή στις διάφορες πτυχές του εαυτού του, της μεταμόρφωσής του καθ όλη την πορεία προς την συνειδητοποίηση. Τώρα τους ανακαλεί, τους συγκεντρώνει, τους συνθέτει σε αυτό το ένα. Γίνεται ο άνθρωπος που θέλει να είναι. Ο “Γκρεμιστής και ο Χτίστης” κατά τον Παλαμά, ο “Άνθρωπος - Θεός” κατά τον Καμύ. Είναι πλήρως συγκεντρωμένος στον στόχο του και τίποτα δε μπορεί να τον αποσπάσει από αυτόν. Κάθαρση - Πτώση - Ικανοποίηση - Ανάπαυλα και… “Ο αγώνας και μόνο προς την κορυφή αρκεί για να γεμίσει μιαν ανθρώπινη καρδιά. Πρέπει να φανταστούμε τον Σίσυφο ευτυχισμένο.” (Αλμπέρ Καμύ, Ο μύθος του Σισύφου).

Επίλογος

Το γκρέμισμα είναι και θέση και στάση. Είναι ως θάνατος, σύμβολο του τέλους και (ανα)γέννησης της αρχής και όχι το «Viva la muerte!» των στρατιωτών του κάθε Φράνκο, αλλά η πτώση του Σίσυφου του Καμύ που κοροϊδεύει και περιφρονεί τους Θεούς και που γίνεται αθάνατος με το να μην αποδέχεται την αθανασία που του προσφέρουν. Για να κερδίσεις, πρέπει να χάσεις, αλλά για να χάσεις πραγματικά πρέπει να έχεις… Είναι το αυτονόητο που μας έπεισαν ότι είναι παράλογο Είναι το “Ζωή και όχι Επιβίωση” Είναι η απόλυτη απόδειξη της αγάπης για ζωή Για τις καλές και τις άσχημες ημέρες αλλά κυρίως για αυτές που βολευόμαστε και “μακροημερεύουμε”. Dramatic irony...

Everything begins with a predetermined death.

An inevitable lament at the onset and the end of the feast, at the end of life.

A journey in an absurd, inverted universe; A journey to consciousness, arduous and violent, both internally and externally.

Sisyphus wishes to remain unaffected by circumstance, to remain himself, to not belong.

He is fully aware.

Each step his own, just like his boulder.

And each time before the end, the journey violates, most unforgivably, the single most precious principle professed by the same Power that punishes him, the supreme apex.

With the final step comes the inevitable fall, indispensable.

And the punishment is no longer a punishment.

And Sisyphus always falls back down again and again blissfully.

Sofia Labropoulou

Greek musician Sofia Labropoulou is a kanun player and composer who has developed a distinct sound by merging the worlds of Greek and Mediterranean folk, classical Ottoman, western medieval, experimental and contemporary music.

Although she is classically trained, it was love at first sight when she first encountered the kanun almost a decade later. With her Byzantine music degree in hand, she moved to Istanbul in 2003 to pursue her love of the kanun and to study Ottoman music.

As a soloist, she frequently collaborates with world-renowned musicians of various musical traditions from Africa, Europe and the Middle East. When she is not travelling, she can be found composing music for films and documentaries or presenting kanun and Greek folk music masterclasses worldwide. After years of playing together with Vassilis Ketentzoglou, Butterfly, the duoĘźs first album, was released by Odradek Records. She currently splits her time between Vienna, Austria and Athens, Greece.

Lament for the Εnd and the Βeginning

Two folk laments from Epirus and Eastern Transylvania Vocals: Márta Sebestyén This lament for the end serves as an introduction to the festivities. The archetypal global pentatonic mode gives this dirge its universal character. The tragedy has already started, foreshadowing the end, and the end gives way to the beginning. Dramatic irony… In any case, the Beginning and the End are one and the same.

En arche en... (In the Beginning)

Sex Pistols cover Music: Sex Pistols (Anarchy in the UK and God Save the Queen by Glen Matlock, Johnny Rotten, Paul Cook and Steve Jones) En arche en... is a medley cover of two Sex Pistols songs, Anarchy in the UK and God Save the Queen, as well as a play-on-words. Two loud and wild tracks are transformed into a child’s tune, inviting you to listen beyond the noise. The lyrics (if one is familiar with them) float in the air throughout the arrangement, reminiscent of a violence that wants to become a memory, to find the perfect ground to evolve into creative destruction. If one possesses the ability to empathise and listen beyond the noise, then one would be able to comprehend this from the beginning. “No future” at the end suggests that: “A man devoid of hope and conscious of being so, has ceased to belong to the future” (Albert Camus, The Myth of Sisyphus and Other Essays; translated by Justin O'Brien. The Sabâ of the Brave Folk poem Vocals: Eleni Christou

Sabâ (Sabah) means morning. It is also a maqam, a scale in Ottoman and Arabic music. The piece is written in the maqam sabâ. In this particular amanes, folk wisdom, like the chorus of an ancient tragedy, provides the frame for the story. Sisyphus climbs the mountain step by step, pushing his boulder. He must decipher the code and feel, live through, and make sense of everything that lies in his way. He finds out who he wants to be, but the boulder has already begun to weigh him down as he pushes it uphill.

The Demolisher

A poem by Kostis Palamas about destruction as a necessary means to rebirth (Cowardly and Harsh Verses, 1928).

Vocals: Christina Maxouri The track begins with alternating plucking from the bass and the cello. The Demolisher walks with a slow, deliberate pace, fully aware of what he is about to do. His entire journey thus far has taught him a lot. His violence has been transformed. Like another Nemesis, this “scion of the night” is about to impose equilibrium. He dares to “destroy”, combining “mind, heart, and hand”. He is the very definition of creativity, because “creating means shaping one’s destiny” (Albert Camus, The Myth of Sisyphus and Other Essays). Demolition has now moved into the symbolic realm. Darkness and light continue to co-exist. As he looks back on his life, he contemplates the different aspects of his own self and the personal transformations he experienced through his journey towards consciousness.

Now he recollects them in his mind, moulding them into one. He becomes the man he wants to be, Palamas’ “Demolisher and Builder”, or the Camusian’ “God-man”. His mind is focused on his goal, and nothing can distract him from it.

Catharsis – Fall – Satisfaction – Respite, and… “The struggle itself towards the heights is enough to fill a man’s heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy.” (Albert Camus, The Myth of Sisyphus and Other Essays).

One final lament for the end, and then everything starts again.

The Demolisher Listen. I am the demolisher, because I’m also the builder; Denial’s chosen one and faith’s only son.

Destruction requires mind, heart, and hand. (…)

Even if I am a scion of the night and the father of ruin, I always look towards the distant light of day.

I am a ruthless earthquake and I am sharp-eyed, too…

Epilogue

Demolition is a stance and an attitude.

Like a kind of death, it symbolises the ending and the (re-) birth of each new beginning, not in the sense of the cry of “Viva la muerte!” by the soldiers of some Franco, but in the sense used in the Camusian fall of Sisyphus, who mocks and resents the gods and becomes immortal by rejecting the immortality they offer.

En guise de libation J’aimerais ici témoigner ma gratitude à Albert Camus, pour l’inspiration ; à la mythologie grecque, pour les symboles ; à la tragédie antique, pour sa structure, son éthique, son génie ; à la sagesse populaire, pour son verbe ; à Nina Simone, pour le désespoir ; à Rénos Apostolidis, pour l’enseignement qu’il m’a prodigué ; aux Sex Pistols, pour le « vacarme » ; à Hector Berlioz, pour la Symphonie Fantastique ; à Federico García Lorca pour sa Chanson de l’oranger sec ; à Costis Palamas, enfin, dont l’oeuvre parvient à réunir l’ensemble de ces éléments.

Sofia Labropoulou

Sofia Labropoulou est une musicienne grecque, une joueuse de kanoun et une compositrice ayant développé un son propre, à la croisée des musiques populaires grecques et méditerranéennes, de la musique classique ottomane, du répertoire médiéval, de la recherche expérimentale et de la musique contemporaine.

Elle a reçu une formation classique, ayant étudié le piano et la théorie à partir de 8 ans, mais a éprouvé un véritable coup de foudre en découvrant le kanoun, une dizaine d’années plus tard. Son diplôme d’études musicales byzantines en poche, elle s’est installée à Istanbul en 2003 pour y approfondir son amour du kanoun et y étudier la musique ottomane.

En tant que soliste, elle collabore fréquemment avec des musiciens de renommée internationale issus de diverses traditions musicales (Afrique, Europe, Moyen-Orient). Lorsqu’elle ne voyage pas, elle compose de la musique pour des films, des documentaires ; elle anime également des master classes de kanun et de musique populaire grecque. Après plusieurs années de travail en commun, sa collaboration avec le guitariste Vassilis Ketentzoglou a donné naissance à Butterfly, le premier album du duo, sorti chez Odradek Records en 2019. Elle partage actuellement son temps entre Vienne et Athènes.

Lamentation de la fin et du commencement

Deux lamentations populaires des régions d’Épire et de Transylvanie orientale.

Chant: Márta Sebestyén Il s’agit de la lamentation qui déplore la fin mais nous introduit, aussi, à la fête. La gamme pentatonique, idiome mondial et archétypique, confère à ce chant une portée universelle. La tragédie a déjà commencé, elle porte témoignage de la fin, et la fin cède place au commencement. Ironie tragique… Dans tous les cas, Fin et Commencement ne font qu’un.

Tous les arbres de l’aube sont couverts de rosée et mes pauvres yeux sont eux aussi en pleurs.

Pourquoi pleurer, mes pauvres ?

J’ai perdu mon amour, elle était belle comme la rose.

En arche en… (Au commencement était)

Reprise des Sex Pistols Musique: Sex Pistols (Anarchy in the UK et God Save the Queen de Glen Matlock, Johnny Rotten, Paul Cook et Steve Jones) En arche en… est issu de la fusion de deux morceaux (Anarchy in the UK et God save the Queen) des Sex Pistols ; c’est aussi un jeu sur les mots. L’arrangement modifie un morceau marqué par une « sauvagerie » initiale, en fait une chanson pour enfants et invite l’auditeur à ne pas s’arrêter au « bruit » mais à prêter l’oreille à ce qui se joue au-delà. Les vers, pour qui les connaît, flottent dans l’air tout au long du morceau ; la violence s’efforce de capter l’attention, la mémoire, et de trouver un sol propice – celui qui lui permettra de se muer en acte de destruction créative. L’auditeur sensible peut saisir tout cela, d’emblée, malgré l’intensité du morceau.

Le « No future » final affirme qu’un « homme sans espoir et conscient de l'être n’appartient plus à l'avenir » (Albert Camus, Le mythe de Sisyphe: essai sur l'absurde, Gallimard, Paris, 1942).

Le sabâ du valeureux Chant: Eleni Christou

Sabâ (sabah) signifie « matin ». C’est aussi un maqam, un mode issu de la tradition musicale ottomane et de la tradition arabe. Ce morceau a été composé en suivant le mode en question. Lors de l’interprétation du chant « amanès », la sagesse populaire, à l’instar du chœur de la tragédie antique, pose les limites à ne pas franchir. Sisyphe, portant son rocher, gravit la pente pas à pas. Il lui faut briser le code pour éprouver, vivre et comprendre en profondeur ce qui se présente à lui. Il découvre celui qu’il désire devenir ; son rocher, pendant la montée, a déjà commencé à peser.

Il ne sied pas aux armes des valeureux d’être vendues ; elles doivent être vénérées dans l’enceinte de l’église, suspendues en hauteur au fortin poussiéreux ; que la rouille mange le fer et la terre le combattant.

D.E.I.T.M.E.H.T.A.

Cet acronyme ne signifie rien, ou presque.

Le héros a pleinement conscience de sa destination. Un sentiment extatique s’empare de lui. Danse avant le dernier acte. Libération. Catharsis. Préparatifs de destruction. Tout ce qui a lieu est dès lors déjà planifié, annoncé, et entièrement conscient.

Le Démolisseur

Poème de Costis Palamas, extrait de Vers lâches et rudes (1928). Ce poème traite de la destruction comme d’une « renaissance ».

Chant: Christina Maxouri Le morceau débute par des frappements alternés de contrebasse et de violoncelle. Le Démolisseur avance lentement, avec régularité, certain de ce qu’il s’apprête à faire. Il a énormément appris lors du trajet qu’il a effectué jusque-là. La violence qui l’habite a mué. Ce « rejeton de la nuit » est prêt à imposer – comme une autre Némésis – l’équilibre. Il ose « démolir » en combinant « esprit, cœur, et bras ». C’est la définition même de la création, puisque « créer signifie donner forme à son destin » (Albert Camus, Le mythe de Sisyphe : essai sur l'absurde). La destruction relève désormais de l’ordre du symbolique. La lumière et l’ombre continuent de cohabiter. Il se penche sur les différentes facettes de son être, médite la métamorphose qu’il a vécue au cours de sa traversée vers la conscience. À présent, il les invoque, les concentre, les compose et les réunit en un tout. Il devient l’être humain qu’il désire être. Le « Démolisseur et le Bâtisseur », d’après Palamas, l’homme-Dieu d’après Camus. Il est entièrement concentré sur sa tâche et rien ne peut l’en détourner.

Catharsis – Chute – Satisfaction – Repos et… « La lutte elle-même vers les sommets suffit à remplir un cœur d’homme. Il faut imaginer Sisyphe heureux. » (Albert Camus, Le mythe de Sisyphe: essai sur l'absurde).

Lamentation de fin avant que tout ne recommence.

Le Démolisseur Écoutez. C’est moi, le démolisseur, car moi aussi le bâtisseur, choisi par le refus et choyé par la foi.

Et la démolition elle-même nécessite esprit, cœur et bras. (...)

Et si je suis le rejeton de la nuit, le père de la démolition, j’ai toujours le regard tourné vers la lointaine lueur du jour, moi, le séisme impitoyable, moi qui garde les yeux ouverts...

Épilogue

La démolition est à la fois thèse et position.

Elle est, liée à la mort, symbole de la fin et (re)naissance du commencement et non le «Viva la muerte!» des soldats de Franco et de tous les Franco du monde mais la chute du Sisyphe de Camus qui se moque des Dieux, les méprise, et devient immortel en refusant l’immortalité qu’ils lui proposent.

Pour gagner, il faut perdre, mais pour perdre véritablement il faut avoir quelque chose…

C’est l’évidence que le monde voudrait invalider en nous persuadant de son absurdité C’est « la Vie et non la Survie » C’est la preuve absolue de l’amour pour la vie Lors des bons et des mauvais jours Et surtout au cours de ces jours où le confort et la quiétude nous menacent.
