Eliot, Paul Auster). It represents an important part of the composer’s work, emphasising a specific musical language headed in the direction of holy minimalism, based on simple or expanded tonality and clear melodics. Written as an accompaniment for the contemporary dance theatre, this music seeks its place as an emancipated, autonomous creation, inviting the listener to join this emotional journey.

Emotions are my source of inspiration. I aim to create music which expresses the variable palette of colours conjured by a specific atmosphere, feeling and condition of the mind, often very intimate and personal.

Perhaps because of this I have always been drawn towards collaborations with different art forms. I wrote music for film, theatre and visual art, but eventually my interest focussed mainly on contemporary dance. I would place my musical language somewhere between contemporary avant-garde and expanded tonality with a touch of minimalism.

Alongside full orchestral ballet scores, I have composed many chamber compositions for contemporary dance.

Seven years of experience working with choreographers inspired in me a specific musical language, slightly different from my autonomous works – more emotional, somehow very pure and honest, often inspired by “holy minimalism”.

A minimal structural approach, well suited to movement, added a specific character to this music.

Throughout this journey I have been asked by many who have attended performances using my scores whether there were any recordings available. Listeners have sought an opportunity to relate to my music beyond the performing stage. This inspired and encouraged me to give birth to the project I am presenting to you.

I realised that those pieces initially created for dance have real value as autonomous works. They somehow breathe on their own, and convey the essence of my musical language. This led to the decision of presenting these works as separate creations, in the context of an intimate chamber concert. After a few concerts in Poland and Belgium it became clear that this project has proven its worth; moreover, it is telling a story I was suddenly very impatient to share – a story about “migrations” of music and the colours of its destinations, and of my own seven-year journey of collaboration.

I feel very grateful and privileged to have walked this path with amazing and talented musicians who have given life to this music: Olga, Barbara, Emilia, Emanuel and Tomek, whose beautiful interpretations you can hear on the album, as well as with other musicians with whom I had the pleasure of working on this project during concerts: Linda, Marta and Aleksandra.

Emotionen sind meine Inspirationsquelle. Ich liebe es, Musik in der veränderlichen Farbpalette zu komponieren, wie sie durch eine bestimmte Atmosphäre, ein Gefühl, einen Bewusstseinszustand heraufbeschworen wird; oft sehr intim und persönlich.

Vielleicht zog es mich deshalb immer zur Arbeit mit unterschiedlichen Kunstformen hin. Ich habe Musik für Film, Theater und Visual Art geschrieben, aber letztendlich konzentrierte sich mein Interesse hauptsächlich auf modernen Tanz. Ich würde meine musikalische Sprache irgendwo zwischen zeitgenössischer Avantgarde und erweiterter Tonalität ansiedeln - mit einem Touch von Minimalismus.

Neben Ballett-Partituren für großes Orchester habe ich viele Kammermusikwerke für modernen Tanz komponiert. Durch sieben Jahre Erfahrung in der Arbeit mit Choreografen entwickelte ich eine spezifische musikalische Sprache, leicht abweichend von meinen Werken absoluter Musik - mehr gefühlsbetont, irgendwie sehr rein und ehrlich, oft von „heiligem Minimalismus“ inspiriert. Eine strukturell minimalistische Annäherung, tänzerischer Bewegung angepasst, gab dieser Musik ihren spezifischen Charakter.

Während dieser Schaffensperiode wurde ich immer wieder von Leuten gefragt, die Aufführungen meiner Werke besucht hatten, ob es nicht auch irgendwelche Aufnahmen gäbe. Die Hörer wollten Zugang zu meiner Musik nicht nur auf der Bühne haben. Dies bewog und ermutigte mich dazu, das Projekt ins Leben zu rufen, das ich Ihnen hier präsentiere.

Ich wurde mir darüber klar, dass diese ursprünglich für den Tanz komponierten Werke tatsächlich als absolute Musik gewertet werden können. Sie entwickeln irgendwie ein Eigenleben und übermitteln die Essenz meiner musikalischen Sprache. Dies führte zu meinem Entschluss, diese Werke im Kontext eines intimen Kammermusik-Konzerts gesondert darzubieten. Nach wenigen Konzerten in Polen und Belgien war der Erfolg dieses Projekts offensichtlich; überdies erzählt es eine Geschichte, die ich unbedingt mitteilen wollte - eine Geschichte über „Migrationen“ von Musik und ihre Bestimmung, sowie von meiner siebenjährigen Erfahrung in der Zusammenarbeit mit anderen Künstlern.

L’émotion est ma principale source d’inspiration. Je souhaite créer une musique exprimant la diversité des couleurs conjurées par une atmosphère spécifique, un sentiment ou un état d’esprit, souvent très intimes et personnels.

Peut-être est-ce pourquoi j’ai toujours été attiré par les collaborations avec d’autres disciplines artistiques. J’ai écrit de la musique pour le cinéma, le théâtre et les arts visuels, mais finalement mon intérêt s’est concentré principalement sur la danse contemporaine. Je placerais mon langage musical quelque part entre l’avant-garde contemporaine et la tonalité étendue, avec une touche de minimalisme.

Parallèlement aux pièces orchestrales pour ballet, j’ai composé de nombreuses compositions de chambre pour la danse contemporaine. Sept ans d’expérience avec des chorégraphes m’ont inspiré un langage musical spécifique, un peu différent de mes œuvres autonomes - plus émotionnel, en quelque sorte très pur et honnête, souvent inspiré par le « minimalisme sacré ». Une approche structurelle minimale, bien adaptée au mouvement, a ajouté un caractère spécifique à cette musique.

Tout au long de ce voyage, ceux qui ont assisté à ces performances utilisant mes compositions m’ont souvent demandé s’il existait des enregistrements disponibles. Les auditeurs cherchaient à découvrir ma musique au-delà de la scène. Cela m’a encouragé à donner naissance au projet que je vous présente.

Je me suis rendu compte que ces pièces initialement créées pour la danse avaient une valeur réelle en tant qu’œuvres autonomes. Elles respirent d’elles-mêmes et transmettent l’essence de mon langage musical. Cela a conduit à la décision de présenter ces œuvres comme des créations distinctes, dans le cadre d’un concert de chambre intime. Après quelques concerts en Pologne et en Belgique, il devint clair que ce projet était pertinent ; il raconte d’ailleurs une histoire que j’étais impatient de partager - une histoire des « migrations » de la musique, des couleurs de ses destinations, et de mon propre voyage à travers sept années de collaboration.

Je me sens très reconnaissant et privilégié d’avoir parcouru ce chemin avec les musiciens étonnants et talentueux qui ont donné vie à cette musique : Olga, Barbara, Emilia, Emanuel et Tomek, dont vous pouvez entendre les belles interprétations sur ce disque, ainsi que d’autres musiciens avec qui j’ai eu le plaisir de travailler sur ce projet durant les concerts : Linda, Marta et Aleksandra.
