CASTING CALL Odd Arts are currently looking for two female actors, with a playing age of 15-21yrs to play two lead roles in our award winning forum theatre performances ‘Blame and Belonging’ and ‘Isolation to Radicalisation’. The actors will also be given the opportunity to play in Odd Arts’ other plays such as those focussing on mental health, exploitation and knife crime alongside others. However for the two plays ‘Blame and Belonging’ and ‘Isolation to Radicalisation’ it is vital that the actor has a good understanding and respect for, or is practicing Islam as the actor will need to improvise with audience members relating to the faith of Islam and its meaning to them. Blame and Belonging explores issues relating to radicalisation including the far right (including anti-Islam, anti-immigration and racism) and online DAESH inspired. The female character you would be playing is groomed and exploited and many of her legitimate social, political and personal grievances become dangerous when hijacked and harmfully encouraged by someone online. Isolation to Radicalisation also explores radicalisation (far right and so called Islamist). The character you would be playing is not radicalised but experiences hate-crime and discrimination due to her faith. Both plays are committed to addressing, challenging and overcoming hate-crime, Islamophobia, division, discrimination, stereotypes, misconceptions, hate-speech and blame or hatred towards any ethnicities, cultures, identities or faiths. If successful you should expect acting jobs at least one day per week (probably much more) for a 6 month period). The fee will be £120 per day in Manchester or £130 if outside Manchester (we will cover transport costs). We pay £12.50 per hour for rehearsal time. Following submission of the self-tape, successful applicants will be invited to a Zoom audition.
