OCTANE IMPACTREPORT

Connecting People, Resources & Capital 2023 YE ARS OF INNO VATION

LETTER FROM OCTANE’S CEO

2022 was an exceptional year for the many companies and individuals that created collective impact for our innovation community. It also marked Octane’s 20th anniversary, we are so grateful for everyone who supports our organization as members, partners, and ambassadors. Each year, Southern California and specifically Orange County continue to elevate the pace for innovation in the technology and medical technology industries. It gives us pause to reflect just how resilient we have been protecting against both the downside of potential shocks and preparing to capture the upside.

While it is prudent to anticipate headwinds in 2023, there are many opportunities with the proper strategy that will be welcome. Octane has many initiatives in progress to address this, most with immediate impact of connecting people, resources, and capital.

Our team continued to deliver content during 2022 through our in-person events, virtually and from our content library. Building off the success of Octane’s well-known Ophthalmology and Aesthetics Forums, we held our first Cardiovascular Summit and will continue to build on that momentum into the future.

Octane Foundation for Innovation added the capability of AI and healthcare into healthsocal.ai. This new area will deliver actionable data to all the residents in Southern California and start with an initial focus on

mental health. The additional areas such as STEAM Ahead, Next Wave, Non-Profit Accelerator, and Women Leaders of Octane all progressed to bring a variety of diverse ideas and leaders to these important initiatives.

LaunchPad SBDC continues to be an important platform and in 2022 we serviced 173 companies bringing the aggregate of capital raised by LaunchPad SBDC companies to $1.6B in 2022.

Our final business unit, Octane Capital & Growth continued to provide access to both capital and growth resources for the companies we serve. Octane believes this is not an either/or, but that the best companies have a strategy and utilize partnerships to access capital and growth resources. We also introduced the first product Octane has created, Haystax. This diligence tool will predict with 90%+ accuracy the probability of success for an early-stage company. Haystax utilizes 13 years of data Octane has developed as a result of our LaunchPad accelerator combined with the power of AI and decision analytics. Haystax is already proving to be a valuable tool when evaluating the risk/reward of early stage investing.

Finally, the Octane Impact Fund is in motion, and I would ask you to consider a gift which will make an immediate

2

and sustainable impact on the future of Orange County. Our COO, Janelle Brunette is leading this for us and can provide how any size contribution can change the trajectory of our community, create a legacy, and build a long term sustainable innovation ecosystem.

As always, I am filled with gratitude for all our partners, sponsors, and individuals that believe in Octane. Your continued confidence and support is appreciated and I am committed to assuring the long term sustainable impact Octane will make in 2023 and beyond.

LaunchPad SBDC is our award-winning Accelerator, offered as a pro-bono service, supported by funding from the SBDC and SBA. We focus on accelerating tech and medtech startups that have their management team and business plan in place.

CAPITAL

2022 marked a significant milestone for Octane as we created our first software product - Haystax.

Octane Capital & Growth (OCG) creates greater speed to capital and revenue by providing best in class advisory services, decision intelligence, and capital connections. This addresses early-stage companies’ greatest needs—raising capital and accelerating revenue.

Haystax is a decision intelligence tool that can predict a startup’s probability of receiving funding and becoming an operational entity with 90% accuracy.

It takes a money ball approach to evaluating startups.

We’ve commercialized the product and are servicing several customers as of December 2022. As a SaaS, data analytics, and decision intelligence company, we are able to provide these solutions on a global scale.

Several dozen people contributed to bringing Haystax to life including the OCG Advisory Board which represents entrepreneurs, strategics, and investors. Thank you to all who contributed.

As Octane Capital & Growth’s performance increases, it will create opportunities for Octane to provide more resources and fulfill our ever-expanding mission.

10

Growth Resources

Octane Capital & Growth continues to execute its strategy to focus on operational improvements and generation of revenue for those companies that joined the OCG platform.

The Octane Preferred Advisor (OPA) program provides companies with functional and industry expertise from over 20 advisors representing a wide breadth of service areas. Emerging companies are able to achieve their growth milestones faster and more efficiently. Key examples of growth assistance are the successful

Phase I NIH grant awarded to LaunchPad company, Remmie Health, and Phase I NIH grant and Notice of Award for Direct to Phase II to SPARK Neuro, led by Octane board member and Women Leaders of Octane Committee Chair, Marinela Gombosev. Both were awarded with the help and expertise of Octane Preferred Advisor, Superior Medical Experts.

The Octane CEO Peer Group continued to provide personal and professional development through a confidential setting among life science CEOs of noncompeting companies. Members serve as both mentors and mentees through peer issue processing and coaching.

Based on the success of the CEO Peer Group, a second Peer Group focused on Marketing Leaders was launched mid-year and has attracted top-tier marketers from leading corporations here in Orange County. Members provide and receive focused input on pressing challenges resulting in greater skills to lead their teams more effectively and grow their businesses.

Tech Innovation Forum

The 2022 Tech Innovation Forum brought together hundreds of attendees to learn and connect with the focus on the next industrial revolution and the role that Southern California is playing in both climate tech and space.

Michael Colglazier, CEO of Virgin Galactic kicked off the Forum discussing the future of space travel. Highlighted sessions also explored the changing face of aerospace, 5G technologies, biggest supply chain challenges, and evolving ESG standards and practices.

Due to the popular success, the Forum brought back the Startup Showcase where each of the 22 startups were given 5 minutes to pitch their idea to the investors in attendance. The Showcase was not to be outdone by our annual LaunchPad SBDC presentations, which included some of the most exciting companies to date. Not only did these companies represent a wide range of tech applications, but also included one of the most diverse groups of founders yet.

Trubify, one of the eight presenting companies and LaunchPad alumni, was one of four companies awarded Gold by Pepperdine’s Graziadio Business School Most Fundable Companies on October 13, 2022. More than 4,000 companies throughout the US competed for the win; the diligence process was extremely intense.

In addition, Octane celebrated its 20th anniversary at the luminary-studded High Tech Awards on September 29th paying homage to the individuals and companies that have made Orange County a hub of medical and technology innovation. Ophthalmology Tech Forum

Ophthalmology Tech Forum is one of our most anticipated events. Orange County is a global leader in ophthalmology, consistently creating the top innovations in the industry.

Each year, this event pulls leadership from some of the top ophthalmology companies and featured a leading panel, innovation leadership device, moderated by Elizabeth Yeu, MD, Partner, Virginia Eye Consultants, and innovation leadership pharma moderated by Aziz Mottiwala, Chief Commercial Officer, Tarsus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. We also heard from Robert L. Avery, MD, California Retina Consultants discussing advances in retina.

The Forum introduced ‘Partnership Pursuit’ which was a unique opportunity for physicians to meet innovative entrepreneurs to determine if there was a mutually beneficial fit and interest to get more involved, such as becoming a board member or medical advisor. Octane will continue to bridge the relationships we have with physicians and the companies that have used our accelerator.

One of the most impactful sessions of the day was the Roger Steinert, MD Legacy Award Presented by The Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, where John Hovanesian, MD, FACS and Baruch Kuppermann, MD awarded their longtime colleague and friend, Dr. Richard Lindstrom. The award was accompanied by a heartfelt message from April Steinert, wife of Roger Steinert and 2017 award recipient.
