the Miracle of Giving In 2021, PCS announced the launch of a new Sustainability Strategy as part of our evolution as a company, changing the way we do CSR for the better. We’re now putting an even greater focus on creating real change, in an effort to help people achieve practical, measurable benefits. Our Miracle of Giving campaign represented one of the first steps on this journey. Over the holiday season, instead of sending company gifts to thank our partners, we made donations totalling 2 million baht on our customers’ behalf to 9 different charitable causes. The Miracle of Giving campaign supports charities and foundations that address some of the most pressing issues arising from the pandemic, as well as organisations encouraging social mobility – one of our central pillars for sustainability.

Essential support for Covid-19 relief The various waves of the Covid-19 pandemic have pushed the healthcare system in Thailand to its limits, as it has done in other parts of the world. Towards the end of the year, we helped organisations like the Zen-Dai voluntary group and the Mirror Foundation provide basic necessities and medical equipment to those in need.

Through the Mirror Foundation, we are providing much-needed ventilators to people whose lungs have been damaged by Covid-19, and are in need of vital medical equipment after being discharged from the hospital. Our donations to the foundation help feed and provide basic services to individuals in impoverished communities, who are often most at risk from the economic fallout following the pandemic. PCS’s donations to the Zen-Dai voluntary group helps fund medical assistance for Covid-19 patients while they wait for treatment from hospitals. This support includes everything from providing swab testing kits to telemedicine services administered by qualified health professionals. Additionally, Zen-Dai runs a call centre to help people screen their symptoms and refer them onwards to hospitals, based on the severity of their case.

Protecting at-risk groups PCS has always worked to give back to our community. That’s why we want to focus on the charities and organisations that help the most vulnerable among us. Our other initiatives in this area include donations to Athorn Prachanart Foundation, which provides aid to people living with HIV and AIDS. As immunocompromised people, they face some of the greatest risks during each wave of Covid-19 infections. Furthermore, we are taking active steps to support members of our society who need the most care and must not be allowed to fall through the cracks. Through the Duang Prateep Foundation, PCS is tackling socio-economic issues involving child abuse, welfare for the elderly, and slum youth by funding services in kindergartens and rehabilitation centres, as well as within the homes of those in need.

PCS also supports those impacted by other difficulties that have arisen over the past year, including the flooding caused by heavy rains. Our donation to the Thai Red Cross is helping to provide relief, aid, and supplies to those who have lost their homes and livelihoods, or are stranded by the floods.

In addition, we are playing our part to help keep children warm this cool season, through donations to the Environment Corporation. In addition to promoting the conservation of natural resources and encouraging greener communities, the Environment Corporation provides blankets and other items to keep children warm at remote schools. This year, the charity is also providing essentials to protect against Covid-19, including masks and hand sanitiser gel, along with blankets, supplies, and snacks.

Essential support for Covid-19 relief In addition to our charitable donations that provide people with essential, life-saving resources, PCS is giving to research that will prevent future viral outbreaks. The Miracle of Giving campaign includes financial contributions to the Thai National Science and Technology Development Agency for the research and development of a Covid-19 nasal vaccine. This vaccine, NASTVAC, is currently awaiting approval for human trials in April 2022. If successful, it could supply Thailand with a locally-made, high-quality vaccine that will boost the nation’s immunity against future pandemics. Here at PCS, we are proud to help people create better futures for themselves and for their communities. One of the best ways to improve our future is to support access to education. The Miracle of Giving campaign also includes donations from PCS to various scholarship programmes, to provide key opportunities for students whose lives have been affected by the pandemic. At the Suan Dusit University, some students have lost family members while others have had to drop out of school in order to support their families. Our donations to the university provide these students with the opportunity to continue their education uninterrupted.

Our donations include support for the Ramathibodi Foundation – not only to help fund medical equipment for the healthcare professionals of today, but also to provide an education for the doctors, nurses, and other essential workers of tomorrow. By empowering medical students through the foundation, PCS is able to strengthen Thailand’s future healthcare system. These are just some of the ways that our community support programme provides resources to help others succeed. By supporting those most in need, we at PCS believe that we can build a brighter, stronger future for all of society in the years to come.
