Our Story
The inception of Clear Design was somewhat of a happy accident. Founder John Warrilow, was working as a manager at an office furniture and supplies store in Sheffield, England in the late 1970s. After taking some time off from work, he went to an auction to purchase a desk for his home office. He happened to win the bid on the desk and prepared to take it home when the auctioneer asked “When will you be taking the rest of them?”
John had unknowingly bid on about 50 desks. The desks were kept in their garage, the living room, friends’ houses, and wherever else he could manage to find to store them. He put an advertisement in the local paper selling the desks and, to his surprise, they sold very quickly! The profit John made from this accident – along with his experience working with customers, selling similar products, and delivering and installing furniture – gave him the confidence to continue selling office furniture and even establish his own business in 1982.
The company became a notable entity within the office furniture industry, proving the
business model to be successful. It grew to service businesses all throughout England before migrating to the United States in 2003 where the office furniture industry had remained the same since the introduction of the cubicle system. This presented the opportunity to do things differently.
With a focus on offering quality solutions with exceptional service, a whole new set of expectations when sourcing office furniture was born.
We invested heavily in ensuring the delivery model, execution, and service to end users and dealers was authentic to our promise. It took time to gain trust that we were a long-term player in the industry, but with a strong track record from our time in Europe, we developed great relationships with dealers – some of which have been growing strong for more than 20 years
now.
Sustainability
At Clear Design we take the topic of ecologic responsibility very seriously. Not only does this make sense for the planet, but it also makes good sense for our business. We have the advantage of flexibility in choosing our vendors and controlling the design/manufacturing/logistics of all our products.
The beginning of every new product project, variables like shape optimization for material use reduction, recyclability, packaging efficiency, as well as life-cycle analysis are all considered.
Every time you use Clear Design solutions for your projects, both you and your clients can feel good about helping the nation’s forests. A portion of every sale goes to the National Forest Foundation and is used to plant trees that support wildlife, restore ecosystems, improve water quality, reduce carbon dioxide levels, and much more.
Many products are built using recycled materials like steel frames and PET dividers made from water bottles

BOOST & BOOST Pro height adjustable workstations
A few years after developing BLADE, there was a growing demand for more ergonomic options in the workplace. Taking from BLADE’s successful design, we developed a similar system that would allow companies to invest in their employees’ well-being by allowing them to go from sitting to standing at the touch of a button. A few years after that, BOOST Pro was created with integrated power, cable management, and telescoping frame. For the ultimate flexible workspace, we launched BOOST Go height-adjustable desks with casters for easy movement and reconfiguration.

BLADE flexible benching system
In the early 2010s, we saw a shift in the market as businesses were resizing and looking to invest in collaborative environments that develop culture and build trust. With that in mind, we developed the BLADE open-plan benching system that promotes collaboration and teamwork while taking up a much smaller footprint compared to traditional cubicles. The revolutionary design uses a telescoping frame to easily adapt and reconfigure as teams grow and still remains a favorite, go-to solution for workspaces today.

EDGE is a bit of an anomaly out of all our product lines. There were always reservations with developing a casegoods line due to concerns of maintaining our high-level of service, speed, and efficiency that we know we can deliver with our other products. However, after countless requests from reps and dealer partners to create a private office line with a design complementary to our benching systems, we decided to take a step into the unknown and have once again come out successful in developing an extensive product line with durable materials, fast lead times, and the same exceptional quality and service you expect with Clear Design. The modular design allows for complete customization in each space for each user while keeping the overall look cohesive.

OPTIMA
training tables
The inspiration for OPTIMA came about through seeing other training tables in the market that weren’t flush with one another. We developed a sturdy, reinforced steel frame to ensure that these tables would not only look great in a space, but were built to last for commercial applications. With its many different uses, endless configurations, and flip-and-nest stowing capabilities, OPTIMA is a solid solution for flexible, multi-use areas. The strong construction and design of the product has been nearly the same since launching in 2013, only seeing slight modifications like power options, cable management, and new finishes.
