ummer is the perfect time of year to plan and enjoy your outdoor activities and your outdoor home and, if you have a swimming pool, then you should be making the most of it this season. For many, the pool is the center of attention of the garden space, and therefore needs seating, lighting, and amenities around it. Others however, may consider that the pool is only one aspect of their entertaining lifestyle and cooking, gardening and a children’s play area may be more important factors to consider. In this article I want to talk about your entertaining lifestyle with a focus on the pool and surrounding areas. Most swimming pools, I find, are multi purpose areas. They need to be

Para muchos, la piscina es el centro de reunión y por lo tanto necesita asientos, iluminación, y servicios asociados. Opt for colourful oversized pillows for lounging, bright beach towels displayed in outdoor units, and outfit your pool deck area with easily movable seating options. For versatility, consider having varieties of mix and match patterned and coloured cushions for outdoor furniture to add versatility. Whilst daytime pool entertaining is fun, so are evening parties around the pool. Remember to consider that different poolside activities will need different lighting sources. tabletop lighting for dining areas, and overhead lighting hung from trees and garden furniture umbrellas to provide ambient lighting. Ensure your pool has adequate lighting inside and outside of the pool to ensure safe footing, as well as gorgeous views and ambience. If your budget will carry it, consider lighting the landscaping and surrounding architectural elements of your garden to bring the total pool experience to life! In terms of planning an event, party or gathering, Ask any event planner the secret to entertaining without stress, and they will say, ‘plan out your activities in advance’. While this doesn’t mean you have to have a strict itinerary of the day or
night, it does mean that an idea of what your guests will eat, where they will dine, lounge, play and interact will help you and your guests enjoy themselves around the pool. For example, if you’re planning on barbecuing, have your dishware, cooking utensils and ample room for dining and mingling adjacent to the pool area. Remember, in order to make your guests feel comfortable, you need to ensure they have enough space to move around and interract without feeling crowded. Give them, and you, plenty of space to enjoy the setting you have created and your event will be a big success. Entertaining around the pool is one of life’s great treasures to spend with friends

The Perfect Suntan
I
know that getting a nice tan means going against all political correctness but, if you want to break a few rules and go a little against the grain, here are my suntanning tips for a great all over suntan. When you are getting a suntan the colour that you get is a result of the skin reacting to the sun. If you have dead skin on top of your good skin then it will be blocking the sun. When exfoliating your skin be sure not to scrub hard, you may want to get the dead skin off but you do not want to hurt your good skin underneath. I know that you may think that using a suntan lotion may be against the idea of getting a dark tan but it is really a requirement. Choose a suntan lotion that has a lot of moisturiser in it with a SPF factor of 8 or 10. Spread it all over, do not miss any spots. Remember that suntan lotion does not do anything for about a half an hour so you must put the sun tan lotion on a little while before you go out. All you need for a really great tan is one or two hours per day EVERY DAY. It is the consecutive days that give you the tan not the number of hours in one day. 28 OCIO magazine
Do not over shower. This means that if you have a shower in the morning and then suntan in the afternoon have only a very quick shower to wash off the suntan lotion. When you shower never use soap, except on areas such as your underarms, as soap will dry your skin and may peel off some of that skin that is getting colour. Moisturisers are very important for keeping your skin healthy. Use a good moisturiser when you get up in the morning as well as after your sun tanning session and then at night before you go to bed. Sun tanning is all about the outer layer of your skin so make sure that skin is healthy. One of the best things that you can do for your skin is to drink a lot of water. Water will keep your body hydrated and therefore will keep your skin hydrated as well. Do not just drink water while you are out in the sun working on that tan but make sure that you start your day with a big glass of water and drink water throughout your day. Sunburn is a condition that will kill the skin cells that you are trying to get colour for. Never ever let your skin get burned as you

will need to wait for this skin to naturally lose its colour and then start your consecutive days of sun again. I have failed at this point time and time again by not being patient about my suntanning and by being careless with my suntan lotion. REMEMBER: Your full tan will not show up for four hours or more. When you are out in the sun do not get too concerned about how little colour you are getting. And finally, when tanning your back, cover your head. This is important because when you tan your face it gets enough sun. When you are tanning your back you do not want your face to get yet more sun. or qué querrías conseguir el mejor bronceado? Bueno, un amigo mío me dijo hace poco: “Algunas veces tienes que hacer algo malo, sólo para saber que estás vivo”. Así que mi interés por romper con las normas está aquí con mis trucos para conseguir un bronceado increíble. Cuando te bronceas, el color que consigues es el resultado de la reacción de la piel al sol. Si tienes piel muerta encima de la nueva, estará bloqueando al sol. Cuando exfolias tu piel asegúrate de no frotar muy fuerte, quizás quieras quitarte la piel muerta, pero no dañar la piel que se halle debajo. Quizás pienses que el hecho de usar loción solar va contra la idea de conseguir un bronceado oscuro, pero en realidad es una necesidad. Elige una loción que contenga mucha loción hidratante con factor SPF 8 o 10. Aplícatelo por todo. Recuerda que la loción solar no hace nada durante la primera media hora, así que debes aplicártela un poco antes de salir. Todo lo que necesitas para conseguir un gran bronceado es tomar el sol una o dos veces al día, TODOS LOS DÍAS. El truco está hacerlo durante días consecutivos, no durante un gran número de horas. Dúchate después de tomar el sol: No te pases con las duchas. Esto quiere decir
que si te duchas por la mañana y tomas el sol por la tarde, dúchate rápidamente y usa jabón sólo en las zonas pegajosas por la crema, pues el jabón te resecará la piel. Las lociones hidratantes son muy importantes para mantener tu piel sana. Usa una buena loción cuando te levantas por la mañana, después de tu sesión tomando el sol, y por la noche antes de ir a la cama. El bronceado está en la capa exterior de tu piel, así que asegúrate de que esté sana. Una de las mejores cosas que puedes hacer por tu piel es beber mucha agua. Quemarse es una condición que matará las células de tu piel que estás tratando de broncear. Nunca dejes que tu piel se queme, porque tendrás que esperar a que
tu piel recupere su color natural y volver a empezar el proceso de bronceado de nuevo. He caído en este punto muchas veces por no ser lo suficientemente paciente y por ser descuidado con la loción bronceadora. RECUERDA: Tu bronceado no se verá hasta dentro de cuatro horas o más. Cuando tomes el sol no te preocupes demasiado por el poco color que estés cogiendo, porque el resultado se verá hasta cuatro o seis horas después. Como probablemente recuerdes de veces anteriores, cuando te quemas se ve mucho más por la noche, varias horas después. Y finalmente, cuando broncees tu espalda, protege tu cabeza del sol. Esto es importante por que cuando bronceas tu cara, ya recibe sol suficiente, y no quieres que tu cara reciba más sol todavía. hey named this car the Stelvio. The Stelvio Pass on the Italian/ Swiss border is one of Europe’s highest and most visually memorable mountain roads. In winter it’s slippery; at any time, it’s a cascade of hairpin corners. It’s certainly a good name for an all wheel drive vehicle. Except if you ever drive the Stelvio Pass, you’ll likely be stuck behind a crawling tourist bus. But let’s not allow dull reality to obscure Alfa Romeo’s sense of romance. The Stelvio is supposed to feel like a car not an SUV, a challenge that we feel they have succeeded in. Along the road, it’s a fine engine, no doubt about that and, although the Stelvio is light for its class and only a two litre, it is well calibrated and does everything you ask of it. Slowing down is strong too, due mainly to Alfa’s new braking 32 OCIO magazine
system that, according to the press material, more closely integrates the electronics and hydraulics. The Stelvio grips in the bends and resists body sway and understeer with ease and comfort. Now, it must be said that the ride may not be as plush as one or two other models in the SUV category but, to be fair, Alfa are playing it very straight here. They are proving that they can get the basics right in the SUV market, so a more advanced setup can be released on a later model and, make no mistake, the basics are well sorted. Inside too, it’s about getting the basics right. Quality comes first, complication will come later. Everything in the cabin is well made and feels solid. There are no massaging seats, reconfigurable instrument panels, complex connectivity systems or electric
sunshades. These all remain on the possible ‘to do’ list for future models. To be honest, inside the Stelvio it almost feels like a return to a simpler age. One mercifully free of distractions, it has to be said. I for one don’t think they need to rush in to offering upgraded models...this one works just fine. n

Se supone que el Stelvio debe sentirse más como automóvil que como un todoterreno, un desafío que juzgamos ha superado con éxito a lo largo de la carretera; es un buen motor, de eso no cabe duda y, a pesar de que el Stelvio es ligero para su clase y solo de dos litros,
está bien calibrado y hace todo lo que le pidas. El descenso también es robusto, principalmente debido al nuevo sistema de frenos de Alfa que, de acuerdo a la nota de prensa, integra más profundamente electrónica e hidráulica. El Stelvio se aferra con seguiridad en las curvas y se resiste a la oscilación del cuerpo y el subviraje con facilidad y comodidad. Ahora bien, hay que decir que el paseo no puede ser tan lujoso como el de uno o dos de los otros modelos de todoterrenos alta gama, pero para ser justos, Alfa está jugando limpio aquí. Están demostrando que pueden ofrecer lo básico en el mercado de los todoterrenos, por lo que una configuración más avanzada podría ser lanzada en un modelo posterior y, no se equivoquen, lo fundamental es la
óptima calidad. Dentro también se puede ver que todo lo básico está en orden. La calidad viene primero, la complicación vendrá más adelante. Todo en la cabina está bien hecho y se siente sólido. No hay asientos de masaje, paneles de control reconfigurables, sistemas complejos de conectividad o cubiertas eléctricas. Todas estas cosas permanecen en la posible lista de ‘cosas pendientes’ para futuros modelos. Para ser honestos, el interior del Stelvio se siente casi como un regreso a una época más simple. Una, misericordiosamente libre de distracciones, todo hay que decirlo. Yo, personalmente, no creo que tengan que darse prisa para ofrecer modelos actualizados... pues este funciona bien. n . he ‘Costa Women Axarquia’ enjoyed a fabulous sunset cruise on the Catamaran Zostera for their June event.This beautiful vessel is based at the stylish Caleta de Velez marina and was the perfect location for the start of a great evening. The ladies met up for drinks, then embarked for their aquatic treat. And what a treat it was. On a perfect June evening, the sea was calm and the air was the ideal temperature. As ‘Zostera’ cruised along the Torre del Mar coast it was joined along the way by a pod of dolphins who came to say hello. What a magical sight. There was plenty of cava & wine flowing with a bbq and music playing throughout. A few of the ladies took to the water and bathed in the warm sea which was crystal clear. As the evening came to a close it was nicely finished off with a few final copas at the newly opened ‘Paprika’ bar/restaurant in Caleta de Velez. A fun time was had by all and is sure to be repeated! l grupo ‘Costa Women Axarquía’ disfrutó de un fabuloso crucero al atardecer a bordo del Catamarán Zostera durante su evento de Junio. Este precioso velero se encuentra en la estilosa Caleta de Vélez, que fue el lugar ideal para comenzar su magnífica tarde. Las chicas se reunieron para tomar unas bebidas y embarcaron rumbo a su celebración acuática. ¡Y menuda celebración! Fue una perfecta tarde de Junio, con el mar en calma y una temperatura ideal. Mientras el ‘Zostera’ navegaba a lo largo de la costa de Torre del Mar un grupo de delfines decidió unírseles y acompañarlo. Una imagen realmente mágica. ¡Estas fabulosas y amigables criaturas estaban de excursión y pasaron a saludar! Hubo cantidad de cava y vino acompañando la barbacoa, además de música toda la tarde. Algunas de las chicas se lanzaron al mar para bañarse en el agua, que estaba templada y cristalina. Al cierre de la tarde el evento se vio culminado con unas copas finales en el recientemente inaugurado bar-restaurante ‘Paprika’, en Caleta de Vélez. For an incredible view of the sea, beaches, mountains and countryside, book yourself a flying lesson at the Velez Malaga airfield, it is truly an experience you will never forget. If you seek entertainment of a somewhat more relaxed nature then golf is your answer and, as I am sure you are very much aware, we are spoilt for choice in terms of courses that are available to you both along the coast and inland too. Continuing with the relaxed theme, yoga is incredibly popular here in Spain with classes organised in sports clubs, camping sites, beach clubs and even on the beach, which is a perfect setting to unwind, relax and get away from it all. Speaking of getting away from it all, why not take to the open seas on a catamaran. Trips by the hour, half day and full day are available and at very reasonable prices. Swapping sea water for pool water, the water park is a great place to spend a few hours...with or without the children.
Back on dry land, did you know that the fastest growing sport in the world is padel, or padel tennis as it is also known. There are plenty of courts to hire along the coast and equipment is easy to hire or buy. If you are new to the game then start with a few group or private lessons and you will be on the court competing in games in no time at all. But if all this activity seems just a little too much for you then it’s back down to the beach with a book in one hand, towel and suncream in the other. Find yourself a quiet spot and just lie back and relax. After all, the watersports, boating, golf, padel, flying and everything else will still be there tomorrow. n

Frigiliana F
rigiliana is not short of an accolade or two and has been voted the ‘prettiest village in Andalucía’ by the Spanish tourism authority. This delightful white washed village is also rich in history. During the 16th Century there were many battles between the Moors and Christians in Andalucia, which culminated with the final expulsion of the Arabs with the battle of the Rock of Frigiliana in 1569. This historical rebellion between the local Moriscos in the village and surrounding area, and a Christian army led from Nerja was a particularly violent battle that is still remembered today. This fascinating story is depicted with twelve ceramic plaques posted on the corners of streets to be found within the village. The village itself is a tangle of narrow cobbled streets lined by the traditional whitewashed houses, their wrought-iron balconies filled with planters of brilliant red geraniums. Small plazas provide shady seating while the village bars are popular with visitors who come here to taste the 42 OCIO magazine

locally produced wine. There are also excellent shops selling pottery, ceramics, leather goods, clothing, local produce and so much more. Frigiliana is best explored by foot so when you arrive do not be tempted to drive into the village, when Frigiliana was created it was done so without the modern day motor car in mind! There are plenty of parking spaces and a large underground car park at the foot of the village. Once on foot you are best suited to explore what many consider to be Frigiliana’s best asset, it’s food, drink and hospitality. For a village with only little over 2000 permanent residents there is an astounding choice of bars and restaurants to be found, some offering
fantastic views of the mountains or the Mediterranean and some offer a place to simply relax and take in the local Spanish life. As you wander through the village you will no doubt notice that there are no sports bars, fish and chip shops, Red Lion pubs or premiership football matches played on big screens. What you will find is an eclectic mix of international cuisine in some truly fabulous (though inexpensive) restaurants, elegant cafe bars, traditional tapas bars and plenty of places to rest with friendly hospitality. n

se creó, ¡no se pensó en los coches de motor modernos de hoy día! Hay muchas plazas de aparcamiento, y un enorme aparcamiento subterráneo a los pies del municipio. Es caminando como estarás mejor preparado para explorar lo que muchos consideran que es su principal recurso: su comida, bebida y hospitalidad. Para ser un pueblo con tan solo 2.000 residentes permanentes, existe una increíble selección de bares y restaurantes; algunos regalan unas fantásticas vistas a las montañas o al Mediterráneo, y otros ofrecen un lugar simplemente para relajarse y percibir la vida española de la región. A medida que pasees por el pueblo, sin duda te darás cuenta de que no hay bares de deportes, establecimientos de comida rápida, bares de copas Red Lion, ni se ven los partidos de fútbol de primera en pantallas enormes. Lo que vas a encontrar es una mezcla ecléctica de cocina internacional

A new menu for the summer season

he popular ‘detalles’ bar and restaurant in Torre del Mar, which is already well known for its Tapas and Fondue menus, has introduced many new dishes to create this seasons summer menu. Located in the delightful Paseo de Larios, Detalles is easily spotted with its distinctive white frontage and large terrace which is often a bustling, chatty environment with family, friends and work colleagues meeting to share their stories of the day. The air conditioned interior with its modern decor, leather sofas, dining tables and high tables, sets the scene for what will be a truly fabulous dining experience. n the 21st June 2017 Torre del Mar’s famous ‘Italia Pizzeria Restaurante’ celebrated 30 successful years of trading...and continues to go from strength to strength. OCIO magazine joined the many patrons, friends and business associates that went along on the 21st to help the Italia Pizzeria Family celebrate this special occasion. We spoke with Sereno about the anniversary and he was, as always, full of gratitude. Gratitude to his loyal clientele, to whom he and his family are eternally grateful for their continued support and, gratitude to the team at ‘Italia Pizzeria Restaurante’ who continue to work hard to keep the restaurant in the top spot that it so rightly deserves. The strong family bond is evidently an important aspect of the success story and Sereno made a special point of saying how proud he is of his family that continue to support each other day in and day out. And finally Sereno wanted to say a very 60 OCIO magazine
big thank you to the many friends that they have all made over the past 30 years, friendships that they hope will continue to flourish for many more years to come. Here at OCIO magazine we would like to say congratulations and we wish them all the very best of luck for the future. n

l 21 de junio de 2017, la famosa ‘Italia Pizzeria Restaurante’ de Torre del Mar celebró 30 años de éxito en el negocio... y continúa creciendo cada vez más. La revista OCIO se unió a los múltiples clientes, amigos y socios de negocios que asistieron el día 21 para acompañar a la Familia de la Italia Pizzeria Restaurante a celebrar esta ocasión especial. Hablamos con Sereno sobre el aniversario y él estaba, como siempre, plenamente agradecido. Agradecido con su leal clientela, a la que él y su familia serán eternamente gratos por su continuo apoyo y agradecidos con el equipo del Italia Pizzeria Restaurante, que
sigue trabajando duro para mantenerlo en ese primer puesto que se merece. El fuerte vínculo familiar es evidentemente un aspecto importante de la historia de su éxito y Sereno hizo especial énfasis al decir lo orgulloso que está de su familia, que sigue apoyándose día a día. Finalmente Sereno quiso compartir un gran agradecimiento con los numerosos amigos que han hecho en los últimos 30 años, amistades que esperan que continúen floreciendo por muchos años más.
