New Euro Banknotes As the new Euro banknotes start circulating through the system, it begs the question as to why is it necessary to change the notes already in use.

The answer lies in security and keeping one step ahead of the counterfeiters.

T

he new euro banknotes benefit from advances in banknote technology. The new security features offer better protection against counterfeiting and make the banknotes even more secure.

The Eurosystem’s research and development strategy states that euro banknotes need to be “selfdefending”, thereby making life difficult for counterfeiters. Credit institutions, professional cash handlers and the public need to be able to recognise counterfeit banknotes and thus help to support the Eurosystem’s anti-counterfeiting strategy.

The new euro banknotes will be more durable than the first series. They will not need to be replaced as quickly. That’s important, especially for the €5 euro banknote, as it is subject to a lot of wear

and tear. It’s longer life will also reduce the new banknote’s environmental impact.

Interestingly, as banknotes are highly sophisticated products, it takes years of research and development to produce new ones. n

Los bancos, los profesionales que manejan efectivo y los ciudadanos deben ser capaces de reconocer billetes falsos y, de este modo, contribuir a la estrategia de lucha contra la falsificación del Eurosistema.

Los nuevos billetes en euros tendrán mayor durabilidad que los de la primera serie, por lo que no habrá que reemplazarlos con tanta frecuencia. Esto es importante, especialmente en el caso del billete de 5€, debido a su elevado grado de desgaste.

Asimismo, su mayor durabilidad reducirá el impacto medioambiental de los nuevos billetes.

Los billetes son productos muy sofisticados y la producción de nuevos billetes requiere años de investigación y desarrollo. n

o the festive season is still in full swing, Santa Claus has been and we look forward to the Three Kings paying us a visit but, all this fun and festivity brings more and more boxes, paper, gifts and dare I say it... more clutter for you to fill your home with. However, if you can find some time and energy in the new year to clear your home of clutter your 2016 will be so much happier and healthier.

We have all heard of the Feng Shui principles but not many of us realise that actually getting started with feng shui for your home can be easy. You simply have to start with the basics and gradually move on to the more complex feng shui levels as you get the hang of it.

This can be anything that makes you feel good: from taking a shower and applying some make-up before your clutter clearing session to listening to your favourite music or placing a vase of fresh fragrant flowers close to you. ating a healthy, balanced diet is an important part of maintaining good health, and can help you feel your best. It can be simple, too.

Just follow these tips to get started.

1. Base your meals on starchy foods.

Starchy foods include potatoes, cereals, pasta, rice and bread. Choose wholegrain varieties when you can: they contain more fibre, and can make you feel full for longer.

Starchy foods should make up around one third of the foods you eat.

2. Eat lots of fruit and vegetables: It’s recommended that we eat at least five portions of different types of fruit and veg a day. A glass of 100% unsweetened fruit juice can count as one portion, and vegetables cooked into dishes also count. Why not chop a banana over your breakfast cereal, or swap your usual midmorning snack for some dried fruit?

3. Eat more fish: Fish is a good source of protein and contains many vitamins and minerals. Aim for at least two portions a week, including at least one portion of oily fish. Oily fish is high in omega-3 fats, which may help to prevent heart disease.

4. Cut down on sugar: Most people eat and drink too much sugar. Sugary foods and drinks, including alcoholic drinks, are often high in calories, and contribute to weight gain.

5. Eat less salt: Even if you don’t add salt to your food, you may still be eating too much. About threequarters of the salt we eat is already in the food we buy, such as breakfast cereals, soups, breads and sauces. Eating too much salt can raise your blood pressure.

6. Don’t get thirsty: We need to drink about 1.2 litres of fluid every day to stop us getting dehydrated.

This is in addition to the fluid we get from the food we eat. All non-alcoholic drinks count, but water, milk and fruit juices are the most healthy.

7. Don’t skip breakfast: Some people skip breakfast because they think it will help them lose weight. In fact, research shows that eating breakfast can help people control their weight. 1. Basa tus comidas en alimentos a base de féculas.

3. Come más pescado

Pues, el pescado es una gran fuente de proteínas y además aporta numerosas vitaminas y minerales. Intenta comer pescado al menos dos veces a la semana.

4. Reduce la cantidad de azúcares que consumes.

La mayoría de las personas beben demasiado azúcar. Las comidas que son ricas en azúcares, incluyendo las bebidas alcohólicas, suelen ser muy calóricas y

contribuyen al aumento de peso.

5. Come menos sal.

Si no añades sal a tus comidas, quizá aun estés consumiendo demasiada, pues aproximadamente tres cuartos de la sal que consumimos ya viene incluida en los alimentos que compramos, como por ejemplo en cereales, sopa, pan y salsas. Consumir demasiada sal puede provocar hipertensión.

6. Bebe agua.

Pues debemos tomar sobre 1.5 litros de líquidos al día, a parte de los contenidos ya en los alimentos, para evitar la deshidratación.

Las bebidas sin alcohol cuentan, pero el agua, la leche y los zumos de frutas son los más saludables.

7. No te saltes el desayuno. Alguna gente se salta el desayuno porque piensa que eso les ayudará a perder peso. De hecho, las investigaciones han demostrado que desayunar puede contribuir a la pérdida de peso. Un desayuno sano es una parte importante de una dieta sana y además, aporta algunos minerales y vitaminas beneficiosos para la salud. Toyota Tacoma 2016 T

oyota trucks have a reputation for toughness. They’re cheap to operate, reliable and rugged. Part of the reason Toyota trucks are so cheap to operate is because new ones don’t come along all that often, aside from a few nips and tucks, the Tacoma of 2015 hasn’t changed much from its equivalent in 2005. That makes the 2016 Toyota Tacoma all the more important.

The follow up to the best selling secondgeneration Taco, the 2016 Tacoma is the first Toyota pickup to face some competition in a decade, and based on Toyota’s previous habits, we’re going to be living with this one for a long time.

The new Tacoma will be different yet immediately familiar to its legion of loyal buyers. Under the 2016 Tacoma’s handsome new body work sits a standard 2.7 litre or an optional 3.5-litre V-6. Although

the V-6 is a half litre smaller than the old V-6, the new one sports more power and 1 less lb-ft of torque and is capable of running on the Atkinson cycle, helping to improve fuel economy. Already proven in the Lexus RX and GS, the engine makes 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque in the Taco. A six-speed manual is standard, and the old five-speed automatic has mercifully been put out to pasture, replaced with a six-speed auto unit On our test day we had two V-6-powered Tacomas to sample. Although mechanically identical, the two Double Cab Short Bed (5foot) trucks couldn’t have felt more different.

The Tacoma SR5 represented the valueoriented portion of the Tacoma lineup, and the desert ready Tacoma TRD Off-Road quite tastefully balances the look truck followers want with the off road capabilities enthusiasts desire.

The lighter Tacoma SR5 proved to be the quicker of the two at the test track. It ran from 0 to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds and completed the quarter mile in 15.2 seconds at 91.6 mph.

The Tacoma TRD wasn’t too far behind; it hits 60 mph from a standstill in 7.1 seconds and will run the quarter mile on tarmac in 15.4 seconds at 91.2 mph. In 60-0-mph braking tests, the TRD came out ahead, needing 125 feet to come to a stop versus 132 feet for the near-base SR5. Both trucks put up near identical figure-eight numbers. The Tacoma SR5 was the slower of the two, lapping the figure eight in 29.4 seconds at 0.57 g average to the Tacoma TRD Off-Road’s 28.9 second at 0.58 g average performance.

Out on the road, the new Tacoma drives much like the old one, especially when it comes to steering. The Tacoma’s steering rack is artificially heavy, as if Toyota’s trying to

os camiones de Toyota tienen una reputación de ser duros.

Son baratos de operar, fiable y resistentes.

Parte de la razón de que los camiones Toyota sean tan baratos para operar se debe a que no traen nuevas muy a menudo, aparte de algunos pellizcos, la Tacoma de 2015 no ha cambiado mucho desde su equivalente del 2005. Eso hace que el Toyota Tacoma del 2016 sea aún más importante. El segundo mejor en venta que hay, de la segunda generación el 2016 Taco, es la primera camioneta Toyota que hace frente a la competencia en una década, y en base a los hábitos anteriores de Toyota, vamos a estar viviendo con éste por un largo tiempo.

El nuevo Tacoma será diferente pero inmediatamente será familiar a sus seguidores leales. Bajo el chasis hermoso del Tacoma 2016 se encuentra un V-6 de 2,7 litros estándar

o uno de 3.5 litros opcional. Aunque el V-6 es de un medio litro más pequeño que el antiguo V-6, el nuevo tiene más potencia y tiene 1 lbpie menos de torque y es capaz de funcionar con el ciclo Atkinson, ayudando a mejorar la economía de combustible. Ya probado en el Lexus RX y GS, el motor tiene 278 caballos de fuerza y 265 libras-pie de torsión en el Taco.

Un manual de seis velocidades es estándar, y la vieja de cinco velocidades automática ya se ha jubilado siendo reemplazado por una unidad automática de seis velocidades.

El día de la prueba tuvimos dos V-6 con motor Tacomas para probar. Aunque mecánicamente idénticos, los camiones de dos Double Cab Short Bed (5 pies) no podrían haberse sentido más diferentes. La Tacoma SR5 representaba la parte orientada al valor de la alineación de Tacoma, y el desierto listo Tacoma TRD Off-Road orientada hacia el gusto estético de los seguidores. El mas ligero de los dos Tacoma SR5 demostró ser el más rápido en la pista de pruebas.

Funcionó de 0 a 60 mph en 6.8 segundos y completó el cuarto de milla en 15.2 segundos a 91,6 mph. La Tacoma TRD no quedaba

atras; llegaba a 60 mph desde parado en 7,1 segundos y corre el cuarto de milla en asfalto en 15,4 segundos a 91,2 mph. En las pruebas de frenado 60-0 millas por hora, el TRD salió adelante, necesitando 125 pies para llegar a una parada frente a 132 pies para el SR5, cerca de la base. Ambos camiones pusieron cerca de idénticas figura de ocho números.

trick you into thinking you’re driving a much larger truck. Transmission tuning, too, feels much more old than new.

Although we universally appreciate the sixspeed automatic’s quicker shifts and the extra cog versus the old five-speed, the Tacoma’s transmission was too eager to hunt for our liking, frequently shifting between fourth, fifth, and sixth gears during typical highway driving in traffic and up steep hills.

The engine is powerful, but the transmission seems to have wider gaps between ratios.

Generally speaking though, the ride on both trucks was pretty good.

Inside, the new interiors are very nice. Fit and finish is top-notch with more high-end materials than we’ve seen before from the Tacoma. The back seat of our testers was tighter than we would like, but the front seats helped give a commanding view out of the cabin. That said, the lack of a telescoping steering wheel could be a problem for big boys driving these vehicles. At 6 feet tall, I felt as if either my arms were too far from

the steering wheel or my legs were too close, the end result being a compromised driving position that wound up being uncomfortable after an hour behind the wheel.

Despite the changes, the quality, reliability, and durability that made the previous generation a best seller remain the Toyota Tacoma’s biggest driver in sales and for sure, the new Tacoma should offer up enough to keep loyal Toyota buyers in the fold for many years to come. n

A pesar de los cambios, la calidad, fiabilidad y durabilidad que hizo la generación anterior en un best seller permanecen mayor impulsor de la Toyota Tacoma en ventas y por supuesto, el nuevo Tacoma debe ofrecer lo suficiente como para mantener a los compradores de Toyota leales en el pliegue durante muchos años a ven. n

The first tip is to compromise your expectations and the reality of skiing with children, and perhaps this is the hardest to do if you’re a keen skier yourself. Accept that you will have to u

make a compromise between skiing with your children on the beginner’s slopes versus your own wish to ski more challenging runs at your own pace. However, with a little careful planning it is possible to do both.

The second tip is to have a plentiful supply of patience. There will be times when your children decide to be unreasonable or are just simply tired after skiing for the day. Or, when despite your best efforts, you discover that someone has mislaid an essential piece of ski gear. These challenges are minor in the wider scheme of things, so relax and go with the flow.

The third tip is to get organised. Getting everyone’s ski gear ready the night before will make the process of getting ready the following morning so much easier. Dry any damp clothes or ski boots overnight and make sure that your children know where to find their things.

If your children are taking ski lessons, be

ready to go skiing yourself just as soon as you’ve taken them to the lesson. A coffee break before you’ve even started skiing may be tempting, but you can ski at your own pace whilst your children are taking their lesson, so it makes sense to make the most of this time.

Always book your children’s ski lessons before you arrive at your ski destination to avoid disappointment.

The fourth tip is to ski according to ability when out as a family. If your children are of different ages and abilities, split into two groups and choose a ski lift that either leads to a couple of different runs or has a run that everyone can ski at a different pace. Maybe the more advanced skiers will ski a run twice in the time it takes the beginners, but don’t worry. Everyone will enjoy trying to spot the others, or catch up with them. You can ride up the ski lift together and really enjoy having fun as a family.

Finally, the fifth and final tip is to head home at the end of the skiing day before the youngest member of the family gets tired. It is always best to end the day after a good run, with the children wanting to carry on skiing, before tiredness takes hold.

With these five simple tips you should be all set to enjoy a great family ski trip. n

Eso sí, las rivalidades entre hermanos no desaparecerán de forma mágica durante las vacaciones familiares, pero sí que pueden desviarse fácilmente con el esquí.

El tercer consejo es organizarse. Dejar listos todos los equipos la noche antes facilitará el proceso de prepararse por la mañana. Seca la ropa húmeda o las botas de esquí por la noche, y asegúrate de que tus hijos sepan donde encontrar sus cosas.

Si tus hijos están tomando clases de esquí, prepárate para irte a esquiar una

Eggnog Martini ...shaken not stirred T

he best, most enduring cocktails are almost always simple things, with no more than two or three core ingredients. Gin and dry vermouth; whiskey, sugar, and bitters; rye, sweet vermouth, and bitters; white rum, sugar, and lime juice; tequila, Cointreau, and lime juice; cognac and white crème de menthe (okay, so we like stingers). Made with care and quality ingredients, they are delicious 100 percent of the time. Back in the 19th century, in the first golden age of the cocktail, bartenders would keep a drink exactly the same except for the addition of a barspoon - a mere quarter ounce, as the spoons were at the time - of some interesting liqueur or cordial. Not enough to throw the concoction out of whack, but just enough to show it in a new light, like when your life partner suddenly displays a previously hidden aptitude for the tango.

Until the past few years, the problem with this trick was that there weren’t all that many

liqueurs available that made it worthwhile.

Chartreuse, Bénédictine, sure. Grand Marnier, Cointreau, and a handful of others.

Beyond that, things ran to butterscotch schnapps and fruity varieties in technicolour.

Since the first rule with the added spoonful is “do no harm,” that was an issue - who wants a melony manhattan? But as with whiskey, gin and just about every other decent spirit, recent years have brought us a liqueur revival, with both new and newly imported entries in old categories and entirely new liqueurs that aren’t based on middle-school flavour cravings.

So let’s give you a recipe for one of my personal favourites over the festive and new year season, Eggnog Martini. Try it at home with your family and friends, it is a firm favourite in my houshold that’s for sure.

Ingredients: 1 cup sugar 1/4 cup cornstarch 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 teaspoon pumpkin-pie spice, plus more for garnish 8 cups whole milk 6 large egg yolks 3 cups brandy Preparation: Set a large fine-mesh sieve over a large bowl. Place bottom of bowl in an ice bath; set aside. Off heat, in a medium saucepan, whisk together sugar, cornflour, nutmeg, and pumpkin-pie spice. Gradually whisk in 4 cups milk, taking care to incorporate the cornflour. Whisk in egg yolks.

Whisking constantly, cook over medium heat until the first large bubble sputters, 10 to 12 minutes. Reduce heat to low; cook, whisking constantly, 1 minute more. Remove from heat; immediately pour through sieve into bowl. Stir in remaining 4 cups milk. Let cool completely in bowl still set in ice bath.

Just before serving, stir in brandy, and ladle into glasses; garnish with pumpkin-pie spice. n

os mejores cócteles, más perdurables son casi siempre las cosas sencillas, con no más de dos o tres ingredientes principales. Ginebra y vermut seco; whisky, azúcar y amargos; centeno, vermut dulce y amargo; ron blanco, azúcar y jugo de limón; tequila, Cointreau y jugo de limón; coñac y crema blanca de menta (bueno, por lo que nos gusta aguijones).

Elaborado con ingredientes de cuidado y de calidad, son deliciosos 100 por ciento del tiempo, día tras día, por todos los siglos.

Y todavía. Después de 100 perfectas viejos fashioneds, que la perfección no nos impidió preguntaba si sólo por esta vez podría ser un poco ... diferente. Ya en el siglo 19, en la primera edad de oro del cóctel, camareros remediar la situación, manteniendo la bebida exactamente lo mismo excepto por la adición de un barspoon - un simple cuarto de onza, ya que las cucharas eran en el momento - de algunas interesantes licor o cordial. No lo

suficiente para lanzar el brebaje fuera de control, pero sólo lo suficiente para mostrar que bajo una nueva luz, como cuando su compañero de vida muestra de repente una aptitud previamente oculta por el tango.

Hasta los últimos años, el problema con este truco era que no eran todo lo que muchos licores disponibles que hace que valga la pena. Chartreuse, benedictino, seguro. Grand Marnier, Cointreau, y un puñado de otros. Más allá de eso, las cosas funcionaron a caramelo aguardiente y variedades frutales en Technicolor. Desde la primera regla con la cucharada añadido es “no hacer daño”, que era un problema - que quiere un Melony manhattan? Pero como con whisky, ginebra, y casi todos los demás espíritu decente, los últimos años nos han traído un renacimiento de licor, con las dos entradas nuevas y recién importados en las categorías de edad y completamente nuevos licores que no se basan en los antojos de sabor de la escuela media.

Así que vamos a darle una receta para uno de mis favoritos personales durante la temporada festiva y año nuevo, yema de Martini. Pruébalo en casa con su familia y amigos, es uno de los favoritos en mi houshold eso es seguro.

Ingredientes:: 1 taza de azúcar 1/4 taza de maicena 1 cucharadita de nuez moscada molida 1 cucharadita de especias de calabaza-pie, además de más para adornar 8 tazas de leche entera 6 yemas de huevo grandes 3 tazas de brandy Preparación: Establezca un gran colador de malla fina sobre un tazón grande. Coloque fondo del recipiente en un baño de hielo; dejar de lado. Apagado de calor, en una cacerola mediana, mezcle el azúcar, la maicena, la nuez moscada y especias de calabaza pastel. Incorporar gradualmente en 4 tazas de leche, cuidando de incorporar la harina de maíz. Batir en las yemas de huevo.

Batiendo constantemente, cocine a fuego medio hasta que la primera burbuja grande chisporrotea, de 10 a 12 minutos.

Reduce el fuego a bajo; cocinero, batiendo constantemente, 1 minuto más.

Retírelo del calor; inmediatamente se vierte a través del tamiz en un tazón. Añada el resto de 4 tazas de leche. Deje enfriar por completo en un tazón todavía fijado en baño de hielo.

Justo antes de servir, agregue el brandy y cuchara en vasos; decorar con especias de calabaza pastel. n OCIO magazine

anuary 6th is Three Kings Day. It is a date celebrated throughout Latin countries. This is the Epiphany of the church calendar, the 12th day after Christmas, when the Three Kings arrived bearing gifts for baby Jesus. Traditionally, children receive gifts on this day, brought by the three kings, Melchor, Gaspar and Baltazar. However, every year the debate simmers across Spain regarding whether Santa Claus is displacing the traditional Three Kings at Christmas time. The truth is that Santa Claus is becoming more and more common for sure, especially in the tourist and cosmopolitan regions, but most Spanish families that embrace “Papa Noel” usually retain their traditions regarding the Three Kings, creating a double celebration for many families.

As for the Kings themselves, they continue to arrive on schedule every year to villages, towns and cities throughout Spain to make the annual parade, which usually starts at dusk on the 5th January, and they don’t come empty handed. As they parade about town with their entourage of locals smiling and waving from trucks, trailers and floats, they dutifully toss out handfuls of sweets to the children waiting in the streets as they pass. On the night of January 5th, children will leave out their shoes with a bit of hay in them to feed the animals of the three kings.

When the children wake up in the morning, their gifts will have appeared in the place of the hay. Nowadays, like Santa Claus, the Kings tend to place their gifts under the Christmas tree instead of in a shoe.

Although countries, communities and even families may be divided between the rights and wrongs of Papa Noel or the Three Kings, it seems that both Christmas Day and January 6th are getting equal attention in terms of celebrations, with the children receiving gifts on both days. This arrangement, unsurprisingly, seems to be perfectly acceptable to the children! n

Marca la Epifanía del calendario de la iglesia, doce días después de la Navidad, cuando los Tres Reyes (Magos) llevaron presentes para el niño Jesús. Tradicionalmente, los niños reciben regalos este día, traídos por los Tres Reyes: Melchor, Gaspar y Baltasar.

En cuanto a los Reyes mismos, siguen llegando puntualmente a la cita año tras año, en las aldeas, pueblos y ciudades a lo largo y ancho de España, para celebrar el desfile anual, que normalmente comienza al anochecer el día 5 de enero, y no llegan con las manos vacías. Al desfilar por la ciudad con su comitiva de gente del lugar, sonriente y saludando desde los camiones, remolques, carrozas y cualquier otro recurso que consigan los residentes locales, diligentemente reparten puñados de caramelos a los niños pendientes por las calles a su paso.

El Día De Los Reyes Words: Angela Stevens En los días precedentes al Día de Reyes, los niños escriben cartas a los Reyes Magos, pidiendo juguetes o regalos que les gustaría recibir. Al despertarse los niños por la mañana, habrán aparecido sus regalos sobre el heno. Hoy día, igual que Santa Claus, los Reyes tienden a colocar sus regalos debajo del árbol de Navidad en vez de en un zapato. El día 6 de enero es un día muy especial por toda la región, ya que es un día para que se junten las familias para disfrutar de una comida especial, para intercambiar regalos y para divertirse juntos.

Aunque los países, comunidades e incluso familias pueden estar divididos en cuanto a lo bueno y lo malo de Papa Noel o Los Reyes Magos, parece ser que tanto el Día de Navidad como el día 6 de enero reciben la misma atención en términos de celebraciones, ya que los niños reciben regalos ambos días. ¡No es de sorprender que semejante arreglo está totalmente aceptable para los niños! n
