hen it comes to interior design, the sofa is a very important piece of furtniture to consider as a single sofa can make or break the overall look of your living room. Yes, you read that right. A sofa creates the first impression of your home interior, as it is the focal point of your living room. Buying the perfect sofa for your living room can be confusing as there are many options available and you have to choose one that can perfectly complement your existing or planned room decor.

Having decided on the size, you now have to decide on the kind of sofa you want or need. Your general decor will probably dictate the style of sofa you choose, but do keep an open mind. For any decor to look perfect, you need all the elements to complement each other. For example, modern decor and minimalism go hand in hand. So if you have modern decor in your living room, then a sofa should also feature the same characteristics. If your living room theme is more traditional, then you should focus on elegance.

The material of the sofa is of great importance too, especially from a practicality angle. There are various types

of materials used in sofas like fabric, leather and leatherette. Fabric is the most comfortable sofa material by a long shot and although traditionally, fabric sofas are more budget friendly, they do need high maintenance to keep them looking nice.

A leather sofa is the best option if you are looking for a material that will last for many years. A leather sofa is low maintenance and easy to clean. It is usually sold in basic shades but it always goes right with most living room decors. Leatherette is an artificial form of leather. Leatherette sofas are cheaper compared to leather sofas, obviously, and they are waterproof and easy to clean. But at the same time, a leatherette sofa is far less durable.

I

love romantic movies, especially romantic comedies, and fortunately, so does my husband. So, together, we embarked on a quest to find our favourite romantic movies, but with a twist. We wanted to find modern romantic movies. Sure, we all love the classics, but our challenge was to see if we could gather a list of fantastic modern romantic movies that would become classics in many years to come. In our search we watched a ton of (fairly) recent romantic comedies. Some were simply horrible, some were rubbish and some just okay, but some were absolute gems.

Begin Again What It’s About: Gretta and her boyfriend Dave are college sweethearts and songwriting partners. When Dave lands a record deal, they move to New York. But instead of collaborating on his record, the experience drives them apart and leaves Gretta on her own.

Why We Loved It: This isn’t your typical romantic comedy, not by a long shot. But it’s a sweet, real story of discovering yourself and what you deserve out of life. Plus, we loved so many songs on the soundtrack

that we downloaded it immediately after watching the movie.

Ghost Town What It’s About: Bertram Pincus is a prickly dentist who goes in for a routine medical procedure but dies for a few minutes during the procedure. When he comes back to life, he realises he can see ghosts. And once the ghosts find out, they won’t leave him alone, demanding that Bertram right the unsettled issues of their lives.

Why We Loved It: We almost didn’t watch this movie because the main character is kind of annoying. Actually, there’s no “kind of” about it. He is annoying. But by the end of the movie, he’s kind of lovable. We adored this charming little story. This movie also happens to contain the best piece of flossing advice I’ve received in my 37 years of existence.

The Rewrite What It’s About: Keith is an Oscar-winning screenwriter whose career (and marriage) have since washed up. He can’t sell a screenplay to save his life, so out of desperation he takes a writer-in-residence position at a university in a tiny Pennsylvania town. His goal is to do as little as possible u

to teach his class so he can focus on writing his next award-winning screenplay. But then he gets on the wrong side of the Ethics Committee chairperson, and life starts to veer from his plan.

Why We Loved It: When the movie starts, Hugh Grant is the smarmy guy you love to hate but we adored Marisa Tomei who plays a working student and single mom with two kids, and we couldn’t help but smile when she was on screen. The whole premise of the movie is a debate on fixed mindset versus growth mindset, and I just ate that up.

Ruby Sparks What It’s About: Calvin is a young novelist struggling with writer’s block after the tremendous success of his first novel. As a writing exercise, he creates the character of Ruby – the perfect girlfriend. Then one day he walks into his kitchen and finds Ruby, in the flesh.

Why We Loved It: A weird little film, but so good! And funny too.

Adam What It’s About: Adam is a man living with Asperger’s syndrome. His father just died, and he’s trying to find his way in the world without his father by his side every day. When Beth moves into the upstairs apartment in Adam’s building, Adam wants to get to know her but doesn’t know how to make it happen. With the urging of a longtime friend, Adam finally jumps off the deep end into romance.

Why We Loved It: This tender love story is 24 OCIO magazine

stripped of the usual drama because Adam says exactly what he means, and Beth learns she has to as well if they’re going to communicate at all. Their story will make you think about what love means to different people.

Music and Lyrics What It’s About: Alex Fletcher is a washed-up musician from a 1980s pop band who gets a second chance at fame when a modern pop diva asks him to write a song for her new album. The only problem? He can’t write lyrics. When Sophie shows up to fill in for his usual plant-keeper, she overhears a lyrics brainstorming session and sings the perfect lyrics to herself while she waters Alex’s plants. Alex has a genius lyricist in his midst, but unfortunately for him she’s been burned by the creative process and wants nothing to do with his songwriting venture.

Why We Loved It: This one’s more along the lines of typical modern romantic movies than the other films in this list, but that’s not a bad thing. This movie almost didn’t make the list because we already had the more

recent Hugh Grant film, The Rewrite, but the banter between Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore is just plain fun to watch. This movie is light and playful, making it a great romantic comedy.

So that’s it, our roundup of some great modern romantic movies. The Rewrite De qué va: Keith es un guionista ganador de un Óscar cuya carrera (y matrimonio) se han resentido desde entonces. No puede vender un guión para arreglar su vida, así que, desesperado, acepta un puesto como escritor residente en la universidad de una diminuta ciudad de Pensilvania. Su objetivo es hacer lo menos posible en sus clases para poder centrarse en escribir su próximo guión de éxito. Pero se topará con el representante del Comité Ético y su vida empezará a desviarse de sus planes.

Por qué nos encantó: Cuando la película

empieza, Hugh Grant es el típico adulador al que te encanta odiar, pero Marisa Tomei nos cautivó en su papel de trabajadora estudiante y madre soltera de dos hijos, y no podíamos evitar sonreír cada vez que aparecía en pantalla. Toda la premisa de la película es un debate entre mantener tu mente cerrada o abierta, y a mí me conquistó totalmente.

Music and Lyrics De qué va: Alex Fletcher es un componente de un grupo pop de los ’80 en horas bajas, que tiene una segunda oportunidad hacia la fama cuando una diva pop moderna le pide que escriba una canción para su nuevo álbum. ¿El único problema? Él no sabe escribir letras. Cuando Sophie se presenta para sustituir a su jardinera habitual, escucha la tormenta de ideas para componer la letra y tararea la canción perfecta para sí misma mientras riega las plantas de Alex. Alex tiene a una genio de las letras ante él, pero por desgracia para él, ella está cansada del proceso creativo y no quiere saber nada de su aventura compositora.

Por qué nos encantó: Está película está más en la línea de las típicas comedias románticas que el resto de esta lista, pero eso no es algo malo. Esta peli casi no entra la lista porque ya teníamos otra más reciente de Hugh Grant, “Cómo se escribe amor”, pero los diálogos entre Hugh Grant y Drew Barrymore son pura diversión. Es una película ligera y divertida, lo que la hace una comedia romántica ideal.

Más que una cama

hough many people think dogs can curl up and sleep most anywhere, your furry friend really shouldn’t be sleeping on the floor. You also probably don’t want him climbing up on your beds or sofas. The truth is, dogs need beds just like we do, and they are beneficial for a variety of reasons.

Just like puppies feel safe and at home in their cages, a dog bed is a place where adult dogs can be the master of their domain. The rest of the house belongs to the people in it, but if he has a bed, though, it gives him a place he can retreat to when he needs time by himself. Additionally, giving your dog a place to sleep will keep him from sleeping where you don’t want him to. Dogs will find as comfortable a place to sleep as possible, and will often end up cozying in bed with you or scratching up your nice furniture.

A dog bed that fits your pet’s sleeping needs will keep him from bothering you or damaging anything else as he tries to nap. To make sure your dog uses his bed though, make sure it’s the right bed for his size and his needs.

Should your dog be suffering with back problems, try a specialist orthopedic dog bed which can be used to help ease the pain and discomfort of hip dysplasia, arthritis, or other structural ailments.

Older dogs should definitely be given an orthopedic dog bed, as they are far more prone to these conditions. Additionally, dog beds often feature other health-promoting aspects, such as cedar chips which may help keep odour down.

Finally, giving your canine companion a dog bed will help keep him clean. Should he track mud and dirt from outside onto his sleeping space, don’t worry. Most dog beds come with removable liners or other features that make them easy to clean. Pyjamas around the house are fine as long as they are clean and presentable but please don’t think they are sexy in any way, they are not. As for bedtime, ditch the pyjamas if you have romance in mind. In a recent womens survey about what they want their man to wear to bed, the simple answer for many of the women was stylish boxers and nothing on top.

With this in mind, you would do well to invest in some good quality boxers that fit your shape and personality. As a cover up, a good quality robe came high on the list of what women want their men to wear in the bedroom.

Viviendo con la Osteoartritis

steoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease that affects both the cartilage and the bone and soft tissues of the joint. It belongs to the group of “Rheumatic Diseases” and, within this classification, it is considered a type of arthritis.

It can occur in the hip, knees, hands, feet and spine, the first three being the most frequent ones. It produces pain and directly affects the mobility and autonomy of the person who suffers from it, with the psychological wear and tear that this entails. For the patient, the most common task can become a major obstacle due to the limitations associated with this pathology. In addition, it is linked to other co-morbidity problems such as hypertension or cardiovascular diseases, among others.

The symptoms of osteoarthritis are progressive and dilated over time. In a first stage, the pain appears associated with the movement and the effort to which the joint is submitted, although, in this first phase, the pain ceases with a period of rest. In a second stage, the worsening of the disease causes the pain to appear after rest and exercise, so that the discomfort is more continuous and practically constant.

Another characteristic symptom of the disease is the progressive inability of joint function, leading, in the long run, to loss of mobility. With the evolution of the disease, deformations of the bones and muscular contractures can occur, aggravating the pain and atrophying the muscles that surround the joints.

Worldwide, an estimated 500 million people have osteoarthritis and in Spain alone the figure is over 7 million patients. In addition, it is the main cause of permanent disability and the third cause of temporary working place disability.

Despite its social impact, osteoarthritis is perceived as a distant pathology, only associated with old age. But the reality is that it not only affects the elderly. With the 40 OCIO magazine

Puede afectar a la cadera, rodillas, manos, pies y columna, siendo los tres primeros los más comunes. Produce dolor y afecta directamente la movilidad y la autonomía de quien la padece, con el desgaste psicológico que esto conlleva. Para el paciente, la tarea más común puede volverse un gran obstáculo debido a las limitaciones asociadas a esta patología. Además, está relacionada con otros problemas de comorbilidad, como la hipertensión o las enfermedades cardiovasculares, entre otras.

Los síntomas de la osteoartritis son progresivos y se dilatan en el tiempo. En

su primera fase, el dolor aparece asociado al movimiento y el esfuerzo al que se exponen las articulaciones, aunque en esta primera fase el dolor cesa tras un periodo de descanso. En una segunda fase, el empeoramiento de la enfermedad hace que el dolor aparezca después del descanso y del ejercicio, de forma que la molestia es más continua y prácticamente constante. Otro síntoma característico de la enfermedad es la progresiva incapacidad de la función articular, que lleva a largo plazo a la pérdida de movilidad. Con la evolución de la enfermedad, pueden aparecer deformaciones de los huesos y contracturas musculares, agravando el dolor y atrofiando los músculos que rodean las articulaciones.

Se estima que unos 500 millones de personas padecen osteoartritis en todo el mundo, y en España la cifra es de 7 millones. Además, es la principal causa de invalidez permanente y la tercera causa de

baja laboral temporal.

A pesar de su impacto social, la osteoartritis se percibe como una patología lejana, asociada únicamente a la vejez. Pero la realidad es que no solo afecta a los mayores.

Con el aumento de la esperanza de vida y el cambio de actitud social hacia un estilo de vida más activo, en el que la práctica de deporte ha aumentado, los casos de osteoartritis están comenzando a detectarse en otros grupos de riesgo más jóvenes como las mujeres postmenopáusicas, los atletas e incluso gente joven.

La osteoartritis afecta a distintas personas y distintas articulaciones de forma diferente.

En algunas personas, la enfermedad alcanza un pico unos años después de que comiencen los síntomas y después permanece igual o incluso mejora. Otras pueden alternar entre diferentes fases de dolor moderado y mejorías.

Aunque aún no existe una cura para la osteoartritis, hay tratamientos que pueden proporcionar alivio de sus síntomas y permitirte continuar con tu vida. Estos incluyen: Cambios de hábitos, medicamentos para el dolor, terapia física, suplementos y otros tratamientos complementarios.

egular readers of OCIO magazine will know that we are very fond of a visit to the fabulous Alhaurin Golf, and last month we enjoyed our most recent visit. Unfortunately, we picked a rather windy day, which added an extra dimension to what is already a tricky golf course to score well on, but the wind did not deter us. Alhaurin Golf is a wonderfully enjoyable course to play, with or without the wind.

In doesn’t matter how many times we visit and play this course, we cannot fail to be impressed. The incredible views both of the Sierra de Mijas behind you and the Mediterranean Sea in front of you offer a great setting in which to play golf.

by the natural beauty that surounds me on each and every hole and the way in which the course has been skillfully and artistically carved out of the natural landcsape.

The course itself offers 18 holes with a par of 72 and was designed by the unforgettable and legendary Severiano Ballesteros. Given the location of the course it will come as no surprise that the terrain is uneven, creating many challenges along the way no matter what your handicap is. The course consists of 5 par 3 holes, 5 par 5 holes and 8 par 4 holes, all of which are unique, creating a challenging, demanding, original and fun round of golf.

As you navigate the 18 holes, you will

enjoy the magnificent contrast offered by the well maintained treelined fairways, as well as the natural roughs and even the wild environment of the Sierra de Mijas. The greens run true but are very fast and with many of them being slightly elevated. Putting is a pleasure on such good quality greens...once you get the hang of the speed of course.

Along with the main course, Alhaurin Golf also offers an additional par 3 course. It also offers a driving range with wide open spaces, a putting green and an approach shot area. The Pro Shop and the impressive bar, lounge and large terrace is open to both players and nonplayers alike, so feel free to call in and see what Alhaurin Golf has to offer. n

Desgraciadamente, elegimos un día bastante ventoso, lo que añadió una dificultad adicional a lo que ya es un campo de golf difícil de puntuar, pero el viento no nos disuadió. El campo ofrece 18 hoyos con un par de 72 y fue diseñado por el inolvidable y legendario Severiano Ballesteros. Dada la ubicación del campo, no es de extrañar que el terreno sea irregular, creando muchos desafíos a lo largo del recorrido, independientemente de su hándicap.

cuidadas calles arboladas, los roughs naturales e incluso el entorno salvaje de la Sierra de Mijas. Los greens son muy rápidos y muchos de ellos están ligeramente elevados. El putt es un placer en unos greens de tan buena calidad... una vez que se le coge el tranquillo al recorrido.

Junto con el campo principal, Alhaurín Golf también ofrece un campo adicional de par 3, zonas de prácticas con varias bahías de conducción y un amplio espacio abierto, un putting green y una zona de golpes de aproximación. Marbella Golf Country Club O

ur last visit to Marbella Golf Country Club was towards the tail end of last year, so with an absence of three months, we were very much looking forward to our day out in January.

As regular readers of OCIO will already know, this fabulous golf course was designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Senior and provides one of the best and most challenging golfing experiences on the Costa Del Sol. The par 72, 5551 metre course (from the yellow tees) has a very established and 48 OCIO magazine

mature feel about it and the surrounding hills, olive groves and magnificent sea views provide a breathtaking backdrop for your round of golf.

The course has been artistically carved out of the natural landscape, creating 18 individual and challenging holes for you to enjoy.

A lack of rain this winter has left many golf courses looking quite dry and baron, but Marbella Golf Country Club seems to have coped with the problem much better than most, which is a real credit to the maintenance and

management teams. The greens in particular have clearly been given a lot of care and attention and are nothing short of fantastic. Soft on the approach shot giving plenty of hold, and a putting surface that ran true and fast. Putting was a pleasure on such wonderful greens.

In addition to a fabulous course, the club offers excellent practice facilities which include a driving range, a short game area with bunker and a large putting green, all of which are situated right next to the club house.

La falta de lluvia este invierno ha dejado a muchos campos de golf con un aspecto bastante seco y bárbaro, pero el Marbella Golf Country Club parece haber afrontado el problema mucho mejor que la mayoría, lo que es un verdadero mérito de los equipos de mantenimiento y gestión. A ellos hay que agradecer la calidad del campo todos estos años. Los greens, en particular, han recibido claramente mucho cuidado y atención y son nada menos que fantásticos. Suave en el tiro de aproximación que da un montón de retención, y una superficie de putting que corre rápido. El putting fue un placer en estos magníficos greens.

Además de un fabuloso campo, el club ofrece excelentes instalaciones de práctica que incluyen un campo de prácticas, una zona de juego corto con búnker y un gran putting green, todo ello situado justo al lado de la casa club.

La magnífica casa club ofrece una tienda de golf bien surtida, un gran bar y salón de relax con una mesa de billar de tamaño completo, un hermoso restaurante y varias terrazas con increíbles vistas sobre el campo hasta el mar Mediterráneo.

FORD RANGER MS-RT Y

es, the Ranger MS-RT is an exercise in style over function, but at least the add-ons don’t have a detrimental effect on the Ranger’s talents. In fact, it’s been made slightly better on the road. The fact that it still qualifies as a commercial vehicle, means that there is likely to be a captive audience of buyers wanting a premium pick-up.

With fewer rivals in the pick-up class, you would be forgiven for thinking that the Ford Ranger – the sector’s best-seller by a big margin – would just plod on as it is until the brand new version arrives in 2023. But Ford isn’t done with the current generation just yet, having introduced no less than 50 OCIO magazine

four new versions to the line-up at the end of 2021. Here I am driving the Ranger MSRT, arguably the most interesting model of the new quartet.

The initials MS-RT might already be familiar to you if you’re a fast Ford fan. The company is an offshoot of the M-Sport rally team, and the firm that already sells modified Transit Customs via Ford’s commercial vehicle dealers. Now it’s had a go at making a

sporty Ranger. While the Transit Custom MS-RT has an aggressive looking bespoke bodykit that’s inspired by M-Sport’s Fiesta World Rally Cars, the Ranger MS-RT is a bit more subtle. There’s good reason for that, since the MS-RT can’t tread on the toes of Ford’s official flagship, the Ranger Raptor.

While that model is focused on fast offroad use, the MS-RT offers a more refined, ‘grown up’ look that’s geared a little more towards tarmac use.

MS-RT has added a new honeycomb grille and front bumper, while the wider flared wheelarches front and rear are connected by bespoke side skirts. Those arches cover 20-inch OZ Racing alloy wheels (two u

Ahora se ha lanzado a hacer un Ranger deportivo.

Mientras que la Transit Custom MS-RT tiene un agresivo kit de carrocería a medida,

inspirado en los Fiesta World Rally Cars de M-Sport, el Ranger MS-RT es un poco más sutil. Hay una buena razón para ello, ya que el MS-RT no puede pisar los talones del buque insignia oficial de Ford, el Ranger Raptor.

inches larger than the wheels of a Ranger Wildtrak, which the MS-RT is based on), and a sports bar is bolted into the load bed to further smooth the MS-RT’s shape. Carbon fibre door mirror caps also feature, while the MS-RT is only available in three subtle colours: Frozen White, Sea Grey or Agate Black.

Overall it makes for a sophisticated and sporty look that’s not as in-your-face as the Ranger Raptor’s. Inside, MS-RT’s talents in the field of upholstery are evident. Handcrafted Nappa leather is used on the seats and comes with orange contrast stitching, while MS-RT logos are embroidered on the headrests and carpets, and feature on the door sills and a plaque on the dashboard.

It all adds up to give the Ranger a more upmarket feel than ever.

Under the skin, the Ranger MS-RT remains identical to the Wildtrak it’s based on.

That means Ford’s excellent 210bhp 2.0 EcoBlue twin-turbodiesel features, as does the Mustang-sourced 10-speed automatic transmission. Something else that’s carried over is a payload capacity in excess of one-tonne, so unlike the Ranger Raptor, the MS-RT still qualifies as a commercial vehicle, so it can take advantage of more favourable tax rates.

On the road, the MS-RT is largely identical to a Ranger Wildtrak in the way it drives.

The swift acceleration, good fuel economy, impressive hauling and towing capability

and the ease with which it manoeuvres are all big plus points and it has a family friendly feel with the spacious interior. Introducing 20-inch alloy wheels with lower-profile tyres brings with it a bit more noise as they crash over bigger lumps and bumps in the road, but the trucks’ decent damping means they’re still heard more than they are felt. You get a bit more grip and slightly better turn-in thanks to the larger tyre size, but of course the penalty for this will be a slightly poorer offroad experience. Having said that, if you’ve paid out in the region of 50,000 euros for the MS-RT, you’re probably not too keen to risk a dent and scrape or two to the shiny new bodywork by testing its off roading ability, well, not straight away anyway. n

Otra cosa que se ha mantenido es una capacidad de carga útil superior a una tonelada, por lo que, a diferencia del Ranger Raptor, el MS-RT sigue siendo un vehículo comercial, por lo que puede beneficiarse de tipos impositivos más favorables.

En carretera, el MS-RT es prácticamente idéntico a un Ranger Wildtrak en su conducción. La rápida aceleración, el bajo consumo de combustible, la impresionante capacidad de arrastre y remolque y la facilidad de maniobra son grandes puntos a favor, además de la sensación de comodidad que ofrece su espacioso interior.

La introducción de llantas de aleación de 20 pulgadas, con neumáticos de perfil más bajo, trae consigo un poco más de ruido al chocar con los bultos más grandes de la carretera, pero la decente amortiguación de que disponen los camiones hace que se oigan más de lo que se sienten. El mayor tamaño de los neumáticos proporciona un poco más de agarre y una mejor entrada en curva, que, por supuesto, se traduce en una experiencia off-road un poco peor. Dicho esto, si has pagado unos 50.000 euros por el MS-RT, probablemente no estés muy dispuesto a arriesgarte a que la nueva y reluciente carrocería sufra una o dos abolladuras probando su capacidad todoterreno, bueno, al menos no de inmediato. n

Why We Love Chocolate I

t may seem simple - we like chocolate because it tastes nice. But there’s more to it than that - and it relates to a fat/carbohydrates balance that is set right from the very beginning of our lives.

So what is it about the food that so many of us find irresistible?

Chocolate contains a number of interesting psychoactive chemicals. These include anandamide, a neurotransmitter whose name comes from the Sanskrit - “ananda”, meaning “joy, bliss, delight”. It also contains tyramine and phenylethylamine, both of which have similar effects to amphetamines.

Finally, if you look hard enough, you will find small traces of theobromine and caffeine, both of which are well known 56 OCIO magazine

stimulants. But, to be honest, although chocolate contains these substances, we know they are only there in trace amounts.

Your brain is not going to get much of a chemical rush from eating a few squares.

None the less, they may play a small part in seducing our senses.

So what else does chocolate have going for it? Well, it also has a creamy viscosity.

When you take it out of its wrapper and put a bit in your mouth without biting, you will notice that it rapidly melts on your tongue, leaving a lingering sensation of smoothness. Special touch receptors on our tongues detect this textural change, which then stimulates feelings of pleasure.

But the thing that really transformed the cocoa from a bitter and watery drink into the snack we adore today was the addition

of sugar and fat. The addition of just the right amount of each is crucial to our enjoyment of chocolate. Look at the side of a packet of milk chocolate and you will see that it normally contains around 20-25% fat and 40-50% sugar. In nature such high levels of sugar and fat are rarely found, or at least not together.

You can get lots of natural sugars from fruits and roots, and there is plenty of fat to be found in nuts or a tasty chunk of salmon,

but one of the few places where you will find both together is in milk. Human breast milk is particularly rich in natural sugars, mainly lactose. Roughly 4% of human breast milk is fat, while about 8% is made up of sugars. Formula milk, which is fed to babies, contains a similar ratio of fats to sugars.

This ratio, 1g of fat to 2g of sugars, is the same ratio of fats to sugars that you find in milk chocolate. And in biscuits, doughnuts and ice cream. In fact this particular ratio is reflected in many of the foods that we find so hard to resist.

So why do we love chocolate? For a whole host of reasons I am sure but perhaps, deep in our DNA and subconciousness it is not just the taste of chocolate that we crave but the sense of closeness we got from the first food we ever sampled; human breast milk. n

Bien, también tiene una textura cremosa.

Si lo sacas de su envoltorio y pones un trozo en tu boca sin morderlo, te darás cuenta de que se derrite rápidamente en tu lengua dejando una agradable sensación de suavidad. Los receptores sensibles de nuestra lengua detectan este cambio de textura, lo que estimula una sensación de placer.

Pero lo que realmente transformó el cacao de una bebida acuosa y amarga al aperitivo que tanto adoramos hoy en día fue la adición de azúcares y grasa. Añadir la cantidad justa de cada uno es crucial para que disfrutemos el chocolate. Revisa el lateral de una tableta de chocolate con leche y verás que normalmente contiene en torno al 20-25% de grasa y 40-50% de azúcar. En la naturaleza, tales niveles de azúcar y grasa se encuentran muy raramente, o al menos no juntos.

Pueden encontrarse numerosos azúcares naturales en frutas y raíces, y de grasa en las nueces o en un delicioso trozo de salmón, pero uno de los pocos sitios donde pueden encontrarse juntos es en la leche. La leche materna humana es particularmente rica en azúcares naturales, principalmente lactosa. Prácticamente un 4% de la leche materna humana es grasa, mientras que en torno al 8% es azúcar. La leche en fórmula que se da a los bebés contiene una cantidad similar de grasas y azúcares. Esta composición, 1g de grasa por cada 2g de azúcar, es la misma que la que podemos encontrar en el chocolate con leche. Y en galletas, donuts o helados.

De hecho, esta composición en particular se utiliza en muchos de los alimentos que nos parecen irresistibles. ¿Así que, por qué amamos el chocolate?

Sin duda por multitud de razones, pero tal vez a un nivel profundo en nuestro subconsciente y ADN no es sólo el sabor del chocolate lo que perseguimos, si no la sensación de cercanía que pudimos experimentar gracias al primer alimento que probamos en nuestra vida; la leche materna. n OCIO magazine

et’s do lunch. It’s a phrase you say all the time. You say it to your friends, to your team at work, and even to your sister, kids, neighbour, dad, mum, cousin, and everyone else in between. However, when was the last time you told your spouse, “Let’s do lunch.” Yes, when was the last time you and your spouse went on a lunch date?

A lunch date isn’t just for business meetings, first dates, or time to catch up with friends. No, lunch dates are ideal for married couples. Let’s break this down a little and talk about lunch dates and about why they can be so powerful in helping you and your spouse to nurture your marriage.  First of all, let’s just clear up one question. What is a lunch date? Well, a lunch date is just what it sounds like - meeting up with your spouse (aka, best friend) for lunch. To eat, talk, catch up, and connect. To simply have intentional time and space together in the course of a day or a week.

The point is for it to be intentional.

So how do you implement an intentional lunch date? Just like everything else, the key to success will be intentionality. Don’t let anything get in the u

En primer lugar, aclaremos una cosa. ¿Qué es una cita para comer?

Bueno, una cita para comer es justo lo que parece: quedar con tu cónyuge (también conocido como mejor amigo) para comer. Para comer, hablar, ponerse al día y conectar. Simplemente para tener un tiempo y un espacio intencional juntos, en el transcurso de un día o una semana.

Entonces, ¿cómo se puede llevar a cabo una cita para comer? Como todo lo demás, la clave del éxito será la intencionalidad. No dejes que nada se interponga en tu cita. Si haces una cita, mantenla, es simple.

To make this a powerful ritual, you may want to choose a certain day of the week and block out a regular time for a lunch date.

Or perhaps your schedule doesn’t allow for that and you need to be more flexible and spontaneous. That works too. Just make sure lunch dates happen on a regular basis.

Naturally, we are all different and we are all at different stages in our lives. Therefore, a lunch date to a newlywed couple may look a little different to a retired couple with 30 years of marriage. No matter what stage you are at in life or with your partner, a lunch will work if you make it happen. Here are few examples of what a lunch date could look like to different people.

The newlyweds: She has a busy schedule but he works from home. He packs a picnic, stops by her office, and they picnic outside her office on the lawn. Short, sweet, romantic, and simple.

The working couple: They both have busy jobs and work 30 minutes apart. He texts her to meet him halfway at 13.00h for a lunch at their favourite burger restaurant. It’s totally chill, totally fast, and totally fun.

The parents of young children: She calls a friend and asks for a babysitting swap. She drops the children off and meets up with her husband for an hour lunch at a local market.

The parents of teenagers: It’s summer and the children are out of school. He tells his teenage son to be responsible and make sure no one dies while they are gone. The dad leaves for a date with his beautiful wife and the son knows that his parents care about their marriage and prioritise each other (plus, who doesn’t love a little time when the parentals are gone!).

The almost empty nesters: Tuesdays and Fridays are regular lunch dates. These two simply make it happen. She picks the place Tuesday and he picks the place Friday. The food is fabulous, but the conversation is even better.

The retirees: Although they eat lunch together every day, Saturdays have become their lunch date. Without fail, every Saturday they end up at the same red roofed restaurant on the corner. They always ask for the window seat in the back. They know the waiters and waitresses by name. They always order grilled cheese and tomato soup, with ice cream sundaes at the end. Their lunch dates usually last two hours. They chit-chat about 62 OCIO magazine

life, reminisce, people watch, and happily eat in silence. This ritual has become a part of who they are as a couple and has provided them with a sense of culture, community, and connection in their marriage.

So you see, different dates for different people but all with the common thread of spending quality time together.

Whilst speaking of quality time together, remember you are on a date, so please, put away the phones. Also, as you are on a date, try and keep the date time positive.

Lunch dates aren’t a time for evaluating your relationship or discussing problems at home. They are a time to put more into your relationship, not take something out. Lunch dates are a fabulous time to practice good etiquette, to flirt, and to continue dating your spouse.

If approached correctly, lunch dates can become a way to change things up, to see each other more often in the course of your

busy lives together, and to continually nurture your friendship. Lunch dates can become a powerful ritual that you both look forward to, a break from the rigours of work and life, and a simple way to create happy and positive memories. Every marriage or relationship needs more nurturing, and a simple lunch date can go far in adding more “nurturing” to a marriage.

So, go ask your spouse out to lunch and make this ritual one that will strengthen your friendship week by week and month by month. n sustituir a las citas semanales o quincenales más intencionadas, sino que deberían mejorarlas. La pareja de trabajadores: Ambos tienen trabajos muy ocupados y trabajan a 30 minutos de distancia. Él le envía un mensaje de texto para que se reúna con él a las 13.00 horas para comer en su hamburguesería favorita. Es totalmente relajado, rápido y divertido.

Los padres de niños pequeños: Llame a una amiga y pídale un intercambio de canguros.

Deja a los niños y quede con su marido, para comer una hora en un mercado local.

Perfecto.

Los padres de adolescentes: Es verano y los niños no tienen cole. Le dice a su hijo adolescente que sea responsable y se asegura de que nadie muera mientras no están. El padre se va a una cita con su bella esposa y el hijo sabe que sus padres se preocupan por su matrimonio y se dan

prioridad el uno al otro (además, ¡a quién no le gusta un poco de tiempo cuando los padres no están!)

Los nidos casi vacíos: Los martes y los viernes son citas regulares para comer.
