Στον δρόμο…

Αν θα μπορούσαμε να βάλουμε έ ναν γενικό τίτλο στο φωτογραφικό έ ργο του Νάσου Ναλμπάν τη, θα ήταν «Ανθρώπινες ιστορί ες». Μια δουλει ά που κρατάε ι έ να αόρατο νή μα και τον συνδέε ι με το παρελ- θόν αποδίδοντας τα σέβη του στους Μasters of Photography και ταυ - τόχ ρονα κλε ίνει το μάτι στους νέους ως άξιος συνεχιστής μιας φωτο - γραφικ ής σχολής που τε ίνει να εξαφανιστεί.

Το «On the road» ε ίναι ένα βιβλ ίο που με τον τίτλο του και μόνο εκφράζει την κουλτούρα του δημιουργού του, ενός ανθρώπου που βρίσκεται διαρκώς στον δρόμο δημιουργών τας εικόνες με αμεσότητα και ειλικρίνεια. Ένας φωτογράφος ενστί κ του που ε ίτε είναι στην Κούβα, ε ίτε στην Κ ίνα, αλλά ακόμα και όταν βρεθε ί σ την Αθήνα, στα - ματάε ι τον χρόνο χαράζοντας φωτογραφικές στιγμές που δεν μπο - ρούν να αφήσουν αδι άφορο τον θεατή.

On the road…

If we would like to put a general title on the photographic work of Nasos Nalmpantis this would be “Human stories”. This is a work of art that holds an invisible thread which connects his creator with the past paying his respects to the old Masters of Photography, and at the same time winking at the younger generation of photographers, as a worthy successor of a photographic school that tends to disappear.

“ON THE ROAD” is a work that as its title alone expresses, renders the culture of its creator, a man who is constantly on the road creating images with immediacy and honesty. An instinctive photographer who, irrespective of where he is placed, either Cuba or China or Athens, he succeeds in freezing time by capturing photographic moments that cannot leave the viewer unmoved and indifferent.

Human-centered and a craftsman without chatter and novelties in his approach, his is focused on transparent photographs, working with face and space, composing a frame with depth and interest. With his wide-angle lens as his main vehicle, Nasos Nalmpantis sets himself almost in front of the people who pique his interest in search of that one click. However, even when he prefers a less wide-angle lens or when he uses forms to put emphasis, his stance remains the same. His choice to present uncropped photographs follows him from his very first steps and it feels like an inner desire to convey to us —pure and unchanged— what he sees in the viewfinder of the camera, as a personal expression.

In this album, Nasos Nalmpantis introduces us to his world with a selection of 124 black and white pictures of everyday life, taken in 12 different countries, trying to make us feel part of an agreement, become his fellow travelers and discover a sociological angle in his viewpoint. This is the noticeable difference of “ON THE ROAD” from a usual travel album.
