T
he idea came from my focus on the concept of an invisible observer walking around the city, and the small, everyday moments that unfold beside us, often without us being aware of them. A “forlorn walk” as I happened to hear someone in a random group of friends say at the Agia Sophia and Ermou intersection, expressing how she was bored of going to the same places. In reality, it is as if the light, the clouds, the sun and the Thermaikos gulf come together to influence the karma of the city’s inhabitants. In winter, looking at the boats lying off shore is like living in Kavvadias’ “Vardia”, a novel that follows the seamen during all of their shifts, telling old stories from their homelands. My thoughts seem to be portrayed as they are born from an indomitable desire for travel. I see people, figures, faces, shadows, everything dancing. Everything is under the microscope and is a mixture of movement, both spiritual and physical, in an exploration without rules. Sailors say that it is the journey which is important, not the destination. Wandering in the city, a walk with no particular goal, is an improvised concerto of the spirit and the emotions. A silent escape from what you have been living and what you would like to live and have made into a dream. They are the traces left by the invisible photographer in the city, in the era of the city. I open my eyes, read thoughts, become invisible and create something real. I would say that what is unfolding in front of the lens is what I can sense from behind it. There are no rules, and I am merely acting as someone who observes these moments in time. Thermaikos is the drummer that gives the rhythm, the people are the scattered notes in an electric guitar solo, the moments are a combination of acoustic guitar chords, the sky is the piano, the hidden sun plays the harmonica, the north wind Vardaris is the bass guitar and the photographer observes the concert through his lens.
